Saw this nice Zebra bike today. Apparently used as a commuter. Almost tempted to bid, but appears not to have a rear tyre.0 -
Boooo, fix.
Wait a minute.... do I get a prize? Like a pass to the Wiggle Honda team changing facilities? Please...pretty please...seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
'fraid not, Pina. Nice try. :-) I plugged the article on Facebook btw and we were hit with the 'bike snobs' stick. Thinking of counter-balancing the piece with a 'best bargains on ebay' or 'cheap but good bikes' article. Waddya reckon?Communities and On Your Bike Editor, BikeRadar0

Yeah I saw that, luckily they were more up for crucifying Pina rather than me!0 -
Ha ha! I think I should get paid danger money. In the meanwhile, how about an article about the 15 best retro or vintage bikes. All the material is here: viewforum.php?f=40044
Don't even have to leave your desk Top of that list has got to be Team47b's Swiss Miss
We hear a lot about bits failing or bits not lasting very long. Would it be an idea to survey the forumites to see what bike parts have been subject to serious abuse/miles and are still going?seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
Think both of those are brilliant ideas, Pina! Will set in motion. *bows*Communities and On Your Bike Editor, BikeRadar0

You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

Seriously, I blame the idiot 'hipsters' in London and their pathetic "old steel" craze. When you see gaspipe Raleighs and Peugeots of my youth being advertised as "classic steel bikes", like they were 753-framed team replicas, it makes me want to rip their stupid 'ironic' beards off. And none of them - not a one - can ride worth a damn. Pr1cks.
Phew, I feel better now!
Oh bore off. If you looked at the bikes many of the 'hipsters' are riding you'd find that there are many people with ridiculously high standards of bikes, lots of high end steel all over the place. I think you're confusing them with commuters riding shoot bikes because they don't know anything about them or don't care. I don't know why I feel the need to defend the fine people at LFGSS, but you are spectacularly wide of the mark with your judgement. I'd even go as far as to say that they have better taste than many bikeradar users, who seem to think that OTP carbon monstrosities with 50 massive logos are the pinnacle of cycling aesthetics.
And none of them can ride? What are you basing this on? I've seen all sorts riding terribly in London, even MAMILs/bikeradar users
Utter cobblers. Many of the "classic steel" bikes people rave about were seen as tat in their day. People mooning over crappy old Raleigh Record Sprints and other 501 main-tube dross. My 80's steel bike was "531 throughout", but not for one minute do I think it was some sort of engineering masterpiece. It's a nice ride but compared to my carbon monstrosity it's a flexible, hugely heavy old dinosaur. But the steel bike has not one logo on it, whereas my carbon bike has many, therefore it must be superior?
And I don't actually recall mentioning the LGFSS lot, of whom I have no knowledge. I base my prejudices on the evidence presented before my eyes.
If I really wanted to pick out carp riding, I would have gone for Boris Bikes, but as it's now tourist season that's a soft target. Trend-following hipsters (a small sub-section of all single-speed (Etc) users) get on my nerves so I picked on them. Plus they've distorted the market my creating demand for crummy old steel bikes, which frankly would better of used to make railings or drain pipes.
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -
