For the time being at least
  • I have always enjoyed watching the Track & Field World Champs but, given recent events, I now know how Paul Kimmage feels when he watches cycling. It is difficult to watch and believe that any of these men or women are clean, especially when the IAAF are mimicking the UCI (circa 1996). Will it take them 19 years to realise their sport is rotten?

The Salazar boys are doing well though, aren't they?

I dunno. Just watched the women's shot putt and there's no way any of them have taken anything.

I think the woman who has dominated it for a decade, Valerie Adams, is legit though. She's just enormous - the biggest woman I've ever laid eyes on. She's got a 7 foot tall brother in the NBA.

Well the German and the Chinese made Fatima Whitbread look dainty, and Jarmila Kratochvilova look like Pammie Anderson. I suspect they were sponsored by Gilette too, and eat Yorkies by the dozen. See if you can watch the highlights Rich.
  • That's not really the point. Being a doper and using influence to get a rival doper popped is disgusting

If you're going to do a job (in this case cheating) you might as well do it properly. The aim of cheating is to win, so why not take out the opposition so they don't need to be beaten?

I think Joel believes in honour amongst thieves

That's a good way of putting it.

If the organisation isn't interested in catching cheats and your main competitors are cheating then I don't see it as an issue to do the same otherwise you are at a disadvantage. To be in cahoots with that organisation as it is in your and their best interest (a la Armstrong, Lewis) and to vindictively bust a Hamilton or a Landis goes beyond the pale.

Obviously in an ideal world the governing body roots out all cheats or at the very least does the best it can to minimise doping (which I think is what is happening these days in cycling). Alas, that isn't the case in most instances.

I'm very disappointed that slimeball Coe has got the job, if he doesn't do something to try to properly clean up the sport then I personally will be very vocal and scathing on Twatter. No doubt he will be very scared to hear that

To be fair I thought Hamilton getting caught was more to do with his doctors/assistants ineptitude than being dobbed in by Armstrong, certainly with the blood doping anyway.

I have been told the name of the UK female by a subscriber and it won't come as any surprise.

I also don't have access - but the 66 names are those who have already served bans so not exactly an investigative scoop more a highlighting of how little damage actually being caught and punished can do
SIXTY-SIX athletes competing at the 2015 world championships who have served bans for doping offences are named today by The Sunday Times.

The athletes all breached rules designed to prevent the use of performance-enhancing drugs but have exploited lenient rules to return to competition after suspensions.

Well the British one is Christine Ohuruogu. You don't need to read the paper to know that.

    Exactly.

This having no access lark is a pain.
When I was told about it by someone whose finger isn't quite on the pulse, it sounded like a scoop, not some fill in for yesterday's news.

That can't be right, the big name British runner is Radcliffe. I know this as I've read it all over Twitter and this thread. It's a cover up, the Sunday Times has been nobbled!

Watching the World Champs on Eurosport this morning and it was sickening seeing the interview of Greene being all pally in an interview with Gatlin and not once questioning him on whether he felt he should be allowed to compete or referencing him as a multiple cheat.

I think this is all cross-purposes. This is a list of people who have been busted who are competing again. So Christine is the British athlete in this instance.

Paula is supposedly the British athlete on a suspicious list from 8 or so years ago.

With regard to Gatlin, he isn't doing anything that the others aren't.

The difference with Gatlin is that a double-banned athlete is gonna/maybe beat the (one of the) most recognised athlete in the world and win the (one of the) biggest event of the games.

It's the way rivals are so quick to shake his hand I find worrying but I guess there's enough convicted dopers in cycling who are happily received back without comment too. If I was a clean athlete and saw a convicted cheat come back and continue to beat me, taking prize money or titles I might have won otherwise, I'm not sure I'd be hugging them and shaking their hands. I'm not as big a cynic as many regarding doping but I can see how it might lead people to believe it's because they are 'at it' themselves.

Certainly. But how many of the 8 in the final of the 100m for instance do we think are clean? I'll take a guess at zero. If Gatlin can get away with it now, after all the additional testing you would presume he was undergoing, then what are the chances of others? We've already seen that no action has been taken over the years of oodles of suspicious blood values.

So Gatlin after serving, not 1, but 2 drugs bans, is now running quicker than ever. We could see a podium with Gatlin, Gay & Powell on it. All convicted dopers.... One hopes the presumed clean Bolt wins.

Not Powell. I saw him interviewed a couple of days ago. It was a contaminated supplement in his case.

Nice run from Amel Tuka. He recently posted the 4th best ever European run at 1:42:51 for the 800m. A bit better than his PB a year before of 1:46:12. Dodgy eyes too ;)

It's still a spectacle tho even if they are all cast-iron dopers. Nice to see the presumed one win instead of the confirmed.

    Bolt!!!
"he's saved his title, he has saved his reputation, he may have even saved his sport!"
Damn - I hope they don't find out he cheats as well

Now I just need to hope that Coe chases down dopers with the nasty singlemindedness he put into chasing gold medals. I know I am a naive optimist...

lol. singlemindedness for sure in his racing. He may throw a few Russians in, but the status quo will remain.

I dunno about that. Coe is the sort who will shed a lot of blood if he thinks it will create a "legacy". I don' think he will do it because he is an idealist - he will do it because it would elevate him above all the other sports administrators

Well he didn't make a great start. Let's hope he improves and no one digs anything up on his alleged relationship with Conconi, Paula Radcliffe or Salazar in the near future.

    Me too maan

However - both sets of BBC commentators have implied that by winning he has "saved his sport". Does anyone else feel rather troubled by that attitude? Bolt may be an exceptional talent however his victory in a single event doesn't undo all the cheating in the others...
