If you're going to do a job (in this case cheating) you might as well do it properly. The aim of cheating is to win, so why not take out the opposition so they don't need to be beaten?
I think Joel believes in honour amongst thieves
That's a good way of putting it.
If the organisation isn't interested in catching cheats and your main competitors are cheating then I don't see it as an issue to do the same otherwise you are at a disadvantage. To be in cahoots with that organisation as it is in your and their best interest (a la Armstrong, Lewis) and to vindictively bust a Hamilton or a Landis goes beyond the pale.
Obviously in an ideal world the governing body roots out all cheats or at the very least does the best it can to minimise doping (which I think is what is happening these days in cycling). Alas, that isn't the case in most instances.
I'm very disappointed that slimeball Coe has got the job, if he doesn't do something to try to properly clean up the sport then I personally will be very vocal and scathing on Twatter. No doubt he will be very scared to hear that
Well they've already elected Paula Radcliffe onto the IAAF cross country committee so they're off to a new start. Nothing like a new broom eh.
Conconi is the new anti-doping Tzar, supported by Salazar.0 -
The guy that normal people hate - Coe - gets elected. Grubby palms.
Probably not much better then the Ukranian he beat though:
Contador is the Greatest0 -
Radcliffe and Cameron are offering their congratulations. To someone who is clearly not serious about doping and who mixes with the toffs. Not surprised.Contador is the Greatest0

As a pro cycling forum shouldn't we be happy that a confirmed blood doper is now running athletics?
Takes the pressure off us having to defend our hobby and it s dark history.0 -
think people have too high expectations. If Coe had revealed any insider doping allegations as part of his mandate and said he was going to clean up the sport he never would have won the election.
Until IAAF have a FIFA type moment there wont be a massive change. Even FIFA are only looking at corruption, any hint of doping or on field cheating is ignored0 -
Ok, Joel, you're going to love this
World Athletics Champs start tomorrow in Beijing, Chinese police has carried out a drugs raid on a hotel hosting some of the teams.
'Spectacular operation Tuesday in Beijing in the hotel that houses the delegation of Swiss Athletics, but also Germany, France, Britain, Portugal, the Czech Republic. Ecuador and Colombia. At 8:30 am, the building was evacuated in order to conduct a search of the rooms. Fifty Chinese policemen, soldiers and as many dogs had been mobilized to is not known for the moment not what this battalion was looking impressive. Officially, this was a simple security check.'

They might want to pay a visit or two to the hotel hosting the Russian, Kenyan, Turkish, Kazakh, Ukranian, Belarussian etc teams too, whilst they're at it. Oh, and whichever room Gatlin is staying in. Fumigate it too whilst they're at it.
Ah good. Seems all the teams rooms were searched including the Russians.

Realistically though it's the OOC testing that really needs to be stepped up...and care taken especially in those countries where bribery is a way of life.0 -

Got several things going on. Russia is a basket case, wont waste time talking about it, it just is.
So take Kenya instead. Since 2012 the IAAF have been wanting a blood testing lab to be installed in Kenya. A collaboration with a noted geneticist failed because of fearing for the safety of his lab staff in Eldoret (which is Runner Central - the Rift Valley). Now a large private hospital in Nairobi has withdrawn from blood testing plans - no doubt under threat and pressure.
As Yorkshire Raw has posted previously, its a nightmare for dope control testers to get entry into countries like Ethiopia, suddenly entry visas become impossible to obtain.
Personally, I'd consider setting out a series of conditions by which athletes have to abide in order to be allowed to compete at track meets and championships outside of countries like this. If in-country testing is a major obstacle, insist that the athletes have to live and train in a country where they can be tested OOC by the IAAF or the local NADOs.0 -
Indeed RR2.
My interest in watching Beijing is a bit 'meh'. And having been a paying spectator in '05 and '09 that's got to be a bad thing for the sport - we've always known it was a bit dodgy, but when half the field gets subsequently DQd or is decidedly questionable (Womens 1500m 2012 OG), what's the point.
Am also still seething because of the treatment of Andy Vernon by British Athletics.0 -

Perhaps she'd like Dr Ashenden to review her blood data and tell everyone how normal it is? You know, expert opinion on her data."Something like the blood passport has taken a long, long time to get to a position where it can be properly interpreted by proper experts and used. It is not a test you can fail, that is important to stress. It is a tool that is used to guide more targeted testing and then can be built up to a point where the experts agree, it can be an accurate pointer to blood testing.
Isn't this misinformation? I mean, it is true that suspicious values should lead to targeted testing, but some cyclists have definitely been done on the passport alone. I would say Kreuziger, but that's not a good example.0 -

You're correct as I posted elsewhere earlier, you can fail straight away under clause 9.6.1 of the protocol. No further tests need be done if the experts have already satisfied themselves.0 -

Before you start libelling people you really need to get your facts straight. I am no fan of Coe but to call him a confirmed blood doper is so wide of the mark it would be laughable if it wasn't so pathetic.
As for Radcliffe, the only evidence against her appears to be that she ran faster than anyone else. When a true genius appears in this world, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him. - Jonathan Swift0 -

I presume blood passport data for athletics would be harder to interpret for wonky values? In cycling you have week-long and 3 week-long races where blood values normally do predictable things. In athletics you don't have these types of events so testing is both more random and possibly easier to manipulate?0
-
It takes 3 bio passport experts working with the APMU to review & analyse individually and separately profiles that the system pings up as worth looking at. They reconcile with the relevant athletes ADAMS data, medical records etc. Only IF all 3 experts agree, does it proceed from there. Many times the 3 don't agree the data shows a strong possibility of doping - and whether it's 1 expert who disagrees, or 2, it stops there.
And people really think that releasing data to the Internet with all its 'experts', attention seekers, and the febrile environment that fosters confirmation bias, WOULDNT be open to misinterpretation and wilful accusations of doping??

Why are people obsessed with Paula Radcliffe, who spent her entire career outspoken about doping, being a doper? What are they basing it on?"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"
