You didn't address the portrayal of her opponent as an oppressed meek white person.

I recommend watching the current stage of the Vuelta if you want to see something dying....

Having read this thread, I now have this image in my head of a load of destitute cartoonists lined up behind a group of attractive, smartly dress young women.....................................in the dole queue.

agreed that drawing the other player as a blonde is a bit off
Although according to some measures - e.g. how much higher grades Asians have to get to get into Ivy League "schools" (as I believe they call them) - Asian is the new White.

I must admit that I hadn't seen the cartoon in question, until reading this thread.
Blonde hair being equated to white stereotype?
Well, she does have what I would describe as blondish highlights.

I reckon it's a reference to no one knowing who she is due to all the attention being on Williams.

On anoyher note... she's hot. I'd watch her play :D

I don't know what all the fuss is about anyway, all they do is hit a spherical piece of fluff across a fishing net for sh1ts and giggles. Meanwhile Elon Musk is trying to save three companies and the fookin world.

Shes actually 2 inches taller than williams, though williams is 5kg and two testicles heavier.

Dammit, I was just going to make this point. I would also suggest there is shading to the skin colour on the cartoon, just not as dark as Williams so I don't know why people are suggesting Osaka is being portrayed as a white woman. If I were her I'd be more upset that I'd just beaten one of the all time greats to win my first Grand Slam event and people were kept calling me 'Williams' opponent' than how I was portrayed in the background of a cartoon.

Wada recommends reinstatement of Russian Anti-Doping Agency

“...The statement marks a considerable U-turn from the previous recommendation from the CRC, published on Thursday, which said Russia had not met the outstanding criteria. No explanation has been given for such a dramatic change of heart.

The news was greeted with dismay by Travis Tygaart, the head of US Anti-Doping. “Frankly it stinks to high heaven,” he said. “It’s no wonder clean athletes are shocked and outraged at Wada’s sudden about-turn curiously just days before its crunch meeting, and one day after clean athletes came out in force across the world to implore Wada to respect their rights.”

i doubt most people care. most people dont want to know abut all the cheating that is going on and the general population assume sport is clean

My reading of that guardian article seems different to others. This wasn't Wada saying all Russian athletes are clean etc, it was steps on the way to rusada and it's labs being accredited again. If they are making progress (and who are we really to make those judgements on anything other that gut feeling) shouldn't the door be reopened?

On reflection i agree with this; unfortunately my “gut feeling” is that some sports are quite happy to use the gear Tennis is one, cycling too i dont think the culture is stamped out, but it doesnt appear (at least to the outside) that PED abuse is as crude and all pervasive as it once was.

Why does your gut think PEDs are acceptable in cycling? Why would you think they are they not pervasive in general, if they were acceptable?

Are you a medical professional (genuine question)?

That's not how I read Vino's post - he was saying that gear appears to be accepted as part of various sports, not that it is acceptable (or that he thinks it is acceptable).

  • OK So Russia are back, in what appears to be a case of political pressure

Leading athletes, anti-doping bodies and Wada's vice-president Linda Helleland had opposed the move.

Wada president, Sir Craig Reedie, said the reinstatement was "subject to strict conditions".

"This decision provides a clear timeline by which Wada must be given access to the former Moscow laboratory data and samples," the 77-year-old Briton said.

A significant tax free pension contribution? Pathetic.

Access should come first. As Gweeds said: Gutless prick.

wait, what? They are back in without giving access to the dodgy lab?

from y reading of this the Russians had to do two things to be allowed back in

    1) Publicly admit the doping program
    2) Allow access to the lab and samples

They are still denying the program so havent done one, and by the time two is done im sure anything dodgy will already have been removed
