Wrong. They are simply prosecuting the state strategy of intimidation via alternative methods. Russia/West current flash spots: Syria, Ukraine, Baltics, Uk, Olympic bans, hooligans. Confused...? you will be.'Performance analysis and Froome not being clean was a media driven story. I haven’t heard one guy in the peloton say a negative thing about Froome, and I haven’t heard a single person in the peloton suggest Froome isn’t clean.' TSP0

Mainly because this pseudo terrorism will only increase Putin's unpopularity (in the West) and those sanctions may get worse. If the natives get alternative information, which they will without Chinese style state sponsored censorship, then it could back fire on him. Not that I think any of what you say is implausible.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

Putin doesn't give a monkey's what the West think of him, he's just flexing his shirt off/ride horse muscles.
Macho it is.

"whitehall fears..." and "UK government suspects..." hmm that seems alot of flimsy supposition to build a story claiming they were some Russian state sponsored hooligan army.
the lot in the stadium seemed to be just your average "hooligan", even if they seemed to plan a mass rush attack, but were quite different to the souped up Ivan Drago pretendalikes that the England fans encountered on the streets of Marseille. but to claim the whole thing is linked to state propaganda/state doping seems a bit of a stretch IMO.
and wasnt one of the England fans arrested, an actual British army soldier, so the Russian media could counter claim the UK armed forces were involved in it too. :roll:0 -

Vlad will remain in power until his death and his intimidation of both his country and external nations will maintain his power base.
As always the people of Russia are the victims. In Pattaya, Thailand which is/was popular with Russian holiday makers, a tower block of holiday apartments was constructed 2 years back, they call it Little Moscow as it was marketed in Russia and all buyers etc.. with the decline in the Rouble, the building now stands completed but abandoned.... they paid their deposits and initial staged payments then with the plummeting exchange rate couldn't afford to pay anymore. Likewise, they paid for holidays but simply didn't turn up for the flights - they didn't have sufficient roubles to convert for spending money. It's sad, very sad, they're good people but ruled by mafia. And it will go on, and on, and on....

Rory McIlroy on golf drug testing: 'I could get away with it' - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/36774868
He reckons he's only had one solitary urine test this year - I know it's only golf but c'mon.0 -

I meant "it' only golf" as in HGH and EPO probably aren't that useful, not "it's only golf" as in it's a cr@p "sport" (honest )0

If hgh helps you drive another 30yds it will be useful. Beta blockers might be helpful for some too.
Mcilroys main point was I think that if it's in the olympics then the competitors should face the same scrutiny as everyone else. I'm pretty dubious about the big money pro sports at the olympics, but that's another debate.0 -

Yeah, I know.
I think beta blockers must be pretty useful in many "skill" sports - darts, golf, F1 and so on. Are they detected by urine or does it need a blood test?0 -

^but they are excreted pretty much unchanged so should be easy enough in the urine.

No, not really. John Daly - hardly a symbol of athleticism had a hell of a long drive. Tiger Woods; not very tall and not much 'wing span' - another long driver. The ability to drive is about speed of the club head and co-ordination, not strength.
[Off topic]
I remember going to the Cuckoo fair in Sussex. They had an old fashioned hammer and bell (High Striker). There was a queue of large blokes. They all grunted their way to a maximum 75 out of 100. Little old me stepped up (I got laughed at in the queue) and I hit my first one at 85 not knowing how much to put into it or what it required. I hit the next two and then kept going Ding Ding Ding Ding until the guy running it got pi$$ed off and asked me to stop. The rest of the queue of fatties and 'strong blokes' shrank away. The reason I could do it was because I had learnt to swing an axe when I was 14 working on a farm/equestrian centre and it's not about strength, just like swinging a golf club.
Something to assist golfers in concentration for longer periods and not get nervous but not physical performance would be the preferred choice of PED.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

Hmm, you can make similar technique arguments about baseball, and we all know what happened there.0 -
