The Walz caps at more than twice the price originally suggested with a custom design seems a bit much. Or am I reading things wrong?

    This needs to be answered.

Cant one of the companies be approached as if they can get their branding somewhere on the cap surely they can do a better price given that this will be quite a big order.

Yeah but you would have to read 7 pages to work out what the question actually is. Original price? Custom price? Bulk price? Quote them to get a sensible answer from people.

Most of us are going to wear these under a helmet so in terms of SCR design etc it doesn't need to be complicated, a distinctive coloured/patterned peak would be just as recognizable. One with ear flaps like the deerstalker design would be awesome.

    Hi,
Whatever we get will be too warm for some and not enough for others. My vote would be to go for the original wicking Walz caps with the "Cap: FCN-1" customisation.
I like the earflaps on the wool ones but the pricing seems to me unsuitable for this situation...

    Cheers,
    W.

OK, tomorrow I'll make en effort to get i touch with Walz and see what they can do for an order of 50+ caps. The moisture ones are likely to be cheap, the woollen ones more expensive. Hey, if I can do a deal then we can get 1 of each :P

Saying that I am not interested in Vulpine stuff, I just want a decent cap not an overpriced one.

  • Here's an alternative suggestion.

Get required number of Bspoke Kilburn Winter Caps reduced from £20.49 to £7.95.

These are proper warm, fairly waterproof, and reasonably breathable caps, ideal for the winter commute IMHO.

Get someone else to come up with the design and to print onto the caps.

Based on circ 50 caps I'm pretty sure they wouldn't work out more than about £12 a head (geddit  )

Quick Google yielded a Wiggle review here which seems OK so happy to go with this. For an order of 50+ we might even get a discount on that. Then its just down to finding a printer who can do the job.

Thinking about the design, most of us will wear these under helmets so any prints on the side, back or top won't be visible. I think something on the top of the brim would be the most visible place?

That was my first reaction too tbh.

The brim looks like it's struggling to stay in position even in the photo.

Yeah it looks like a hiking winter hat, I have something similar but thicker I use in winter to keep my hairless bonce from chilling down.

I've emailed Walz to get a price on their wool ear flap caps with embroidery. Will let you know what comes back.

Having had the Walz moisture wicking cap for a few rides now, I can really recommend it. Nice fit and much better handling of sweat than either of my cotton caps. Its not going to be warm enough for real winter though. My Craft winter cap landed on my desk this morning too, that's going to be much better for winter. Not sure about customisation options there though.

    No, please don't do that!

This is a cycle-cap, isn't it? Not a helmet-liner... Logo should be SCR-specific (that was the original idea, yes?).
The "Cap: FCN-1" idea for the back seems perfect! That's the only time a fellow SCR player is going to see it properly (either when passing or having been passed).

Only about a third of cyclists wear helmets, anyway, and most of the contributors here are experienced enough to know the score, so it could well be lower than that for the target audience. Not for debate here, though, there's already a pseudo-helmet thread going!

    Cheers,
    W.
  • One of the reasons I went for this cap idea is that Wrath Rob ideas on what to wear appears to match up with what I want out of my kit (under a lid, keep ears warm, wick away sweat) .. that's why I put my name down.

I think that's what he was originally saying .. apologies if not.

Right, Walz have come back with prices. Based on over 25 caps the Wool Ear Flap caps with 1 embroidery location come to $19.50 plus a split of the $60 set up fee and then shipping and possibly taxes on top. To save you the maths this works out at around £12.50 per cap, plus P&P. So that's almost 1/2 the listed price. Lead time is 4 weeks. Personally, I'm tempted to get a couple!

    Sound like a good deal?

The bspoke caps are rather better quality than the picture suggests. The brim contains a wire, a bit like you tend to get in gortex jackets etc. so it retains whatever shape you set it. Only comes in one colour (black) and one size (BIG).

The Walz caps look classier and come in various colours and couple of sizes. If you can get them made up for the sort of price that has been indicated then that looks good value.

Need more thought on design and placement of logo. Front, back or both?

I'll take 2 large in black. Guessing the embroidery is either going to be on the peak or on the back of the flap. Would have to be on the back if anyone is going to read it.....

Still very much in on the Walz cap - can we choose which of their caps we go for or does need to be a single batch of one style? I quite fancy rocking the gentleman cyclist look.

Thanks for sorting this out Rob - you've got far more patience that me.
