Breaking News!
Boston Athletic Association to strip Armstrong of 497th place in 2008 Boston Marathon*.
Seems incredibly petty. 497th four years ago? Who cares?

I am developing a huge respect for Marcel Kittel.
He could totally take the skinny Spanish climbers in a fight. 8) I mean he looks like the child of Dolph Lundgren.Correlation is not causation.0 -

"Team Sky can confirm that Bobby Julich has left the team after two seasons as Race Coach.
After the team reaffirmed its position on anti-doping last week, Bobby has disclosed having taken a banned substance in his past as a professional rider in the late 1990’s.
Team Principal Dave Brailsford said: “Bobby has shown courage in admitting to the errors he made long before his time with Team Sky. We understand that this is a difficult step for him and we’ve done our best to support him.
“It’s important to emphasise that there have been no doubts about his work with us or his approach as a coach. He has done a good job and been a good colleague during his two years with us. Bobby has our best wishes for the future.
“We’ve made clear our commitment to being a clean team and been open about the steps we’re taking. Although it’s never easy to part, we believe this is the right thing to do.”"0 -
I think this is going to get silly now. Come on Sean, lets hear it? Everyone knows it or are you the only one who has no knowledge and never did the big D even after reportedly failing a test?0

Thats my point, its going to get silly... Sky is known as a clean team, if it starts to sack all of its experienced staff, and most of the other retired cycklists probably have touched the dark side to a greater or lesser degree than current youngsters, who is going to DS at Sky? Surely they have not thought this through. If Sean Yates goes, which he must, name his replacement?
If he does not go, Sky are as bad as all the rest. Its silly.0 -

I know, I know. I fully expect to be called upon to drive one of the team cars in the GTs. At this rate, you might have to be my co-driver0 -

Reading Bobby's confession it is interesting to note what he says of CSC. That is him and CVV now. So much for it being a team full of dopers and doping being encouraged by management.Contador is the Greatest0

Yes, I think you've got a point here. It seems that in the case of many spaniards the doping was perhaps arranged at a national level, rather than organised by teams through the DS & MD involvement. I'm guessing we'll find out more when the Puerto case is discussed in 2013.
In regards to AC, shame his recent statements are not more strongly worded in denouncing dopers. I remember that even LA could be rather venomous in attacking [caught] dopers. But then again, the latter was all smoke and mirrors, whereas the former is seemingly still in awe of a fallen hero. Got to admire his guts and honesty, though.0 -

For me, the revealing statement about CSC is: "That being said, what happened before the 2006 Tour de France changed my outlook into what we all thought we were buying into when we joined that team"0 -

When does the Aussie domestic season start?
On second thoughts, the club runs would be more interesting0 -

Here's an idea. Let's not post on this thread for 2 days and go riding instead. Nothing will happen that will really have a ton of meaning whether we comment on it or not.0 -

That's good. I'm pretty confident I can handle the one-handed steering whilst nonchalently leaning out of the window and talking to commissaires. I've also already booked to be out for the Giro 17th-27th May, so basically I'm already there for Sky.0 -

CSC rider Ivan Basso, that year's Giro winner, got implicated on the eve of the Tour de France via Operation Puerto, so he was pulled from the race. Prior to that people had been talking up his chances of winning both Giro and Tour that year.
I was on a local bus in northern Italy at the time and the driver had the radio on, when there was this newsflash and he yanked the volume up so we (me and a handful of elderly ladies returning with the daily groceries) had no choice but to listen to the report.0 -

To me this quote from CB below hits the nail on the head, a 2 year back datable ban is useless. Doping riders can make big money from the GTs, thus if they can get away with it for a few years, doping is very worthwhile; all that awaits therm IF they get caught is the ban, then a job at Garmin but they are wealthy too!
"Personally I've always been in favour of life bans, but they are very hard to enforce. I really believe in the concept of making the risk greater than than the reward. For cycling to become credible whatever comes next has to have proper teeth."0 -

thanks for that. my ignorance is not due to memory loss, but pure ignorance. I didn't start following racing until 2008 or so. I've read about puerto but didn't associate Julich's statement with it.--

The picture emerging of CSC at that time is that Riis was sending his top riders to Fuentes for "training plans" thus keeping "training plans" at arms-length from the team; it's sounding, though, that provision of "training plans" wasn't as organised and team-wide at CSC as it was at Postal... which may explain why they didn't win the Tour...0 -

boardman speaks a lot of sense in both his punsihment and his views of the future of the UCI - pretty much everyone who wants to see the end of doping wants to see the end of mcquaid and verbruggen, but I really cant see them voluntarily goingdont knock on death\'s door.....
Ring the bell and leg it...that really pi**es him off....0
