In the dictionary, under "Ignominy", it says "see Lance Armstrong and Jimmy Savile".

Lance Armstrong asked to repay £7.5 bonus to insurance firm
A Texas insurance company will demand the return of $7.5m in bonuses from cyclist Lance Armstrong on Monday.
SCA Promotions covered a performance bonus paid to the American after he won his sixth Tour de France in 2004.
Now the International Cycling Union (UCI) has stripped Armstrong of his seven Tour titles, SCA will demand the money back from Armstrong.
SCA's lawyer Jeffrey M. Tillotson told BBC Sport: "We will make a formal demand for return of funds."
He added: "If this is not successful, we will initiate formal legal proceedings against Mr Armstrong in five business days (Monday 29 October)."
Ok. Now for the Sunday Times to sue to get their money back too.0 -

I think it said they were considering their options in this regard in Sunday's paper.

Interesting but, for me, somewhat of a useless exercise in useless exercises. The story has and still is being told and everyone who is a cycling fan and bunches who aren't know what happened. It's no secret. The rest of the people in the world either don't know or don't care. So my question to you is what does something like that accomplish?
Aslo, is there some sort of weird satisfaction in seeing something like that? Everyone seems to be waiting for his name to be "stricken" from the books. This strikes me as very odd as most of you have hated him for years and now that it's been exposed and winding down you're still not happy with the way things are unfolding. I really don't fear for LA's ability to come out of all this on his feet. He's strong enough to do it. I do fear for the people on here who will carry some grudge with them, quite possibly to their graves.0 -

Be interesting to see what the LA response to this is.
very hard to carry on with the pleas of innocence and just hand the money back, but at the same time he knows what will happen if it gets to court.0 -

I do find it a bit sad on the individual level, yes. His legacy (and the state of cycling) could have been exactly the opposite of what it has turned out to be.

No, we can rock up more than that. Hang on:
Nico Roche has kind of TRIED - though flawed and clumsily, I'll grant you, and there is the big elephant in the room of Papa Roche...
Griepel
Jack Bobridge (see his twitter feed)
Danny Pate
Gustav Larsson
Rich-tea Porte
Cancellara
Does Froome's interview do enough to quality for the Support-a-Pro tweet campaign? (tho a point against him for showing off with his new mate Vino at a post-Oly crit)
Peter Kennaugh RT'd a Danny Pate tweet saying that EPO should have a bigger penalty and the the sport has been abused too much - does he qualify?
On the GB domestic scene:
Marcus Backstedt
Peter Hawkins
more to follow - just have to rack my brain some more

This story is not winding down, SCA, the Times, what LA has to say about it, JB, Ferrari, Ferrari other doping ring case, fallout for Livestrong stories, Perjury case possibilities, sponsors after money back, prize money back, what other sports stars have to say, politicians, UCI taking a hammering, Pat will be pressured to resign, Hein the same, reactions from all those who stood up to or were bullied by LA etc etc etc...

But hey Livestrong is a great charity and has raised £500 million to raise awareness of Cancer. That is a great thing because people weren't aware of cancer before. I didn't get to watch people close to me die of the disease so am thankful that Lance is there to line his pockets out of this disease and then for idiots like Dennis subtly to justify Lance through all his snide little comments about how we should put aside anger, how it doesn't matter and so on. It does matter. He ripped off cycling fans and he ripped off cancer victims and their families. He portrayed those who died as somehow lacking the fight to survive. How dare he do that to make money for himself. So go take you sense of injustice that I am mocking a Lance supporter and stick it up your a$$.0 -

Yeah, I mostly agree. However I did get to see people close to me die of cancer - two examples only are an 18 year old who was sick most of his young life, spent mostly in hospital and never got well enough to even kick a ball; and (head droops) my own sister who "battled" (she hated that word) for eight years before she died. I'm "aware" of cancer - who the F is not?
I'll never forget my epiphany about Armstrong, when someone else (years ago) who had done more research than me, pointed out that his Big Thing Charity only supports USA victims/sufferers. Non-American "fans" might not realise that, as I didn't.0 -

It is remarkable how little money has gone towards helping people with the disease and how much instead goes towards self aggrandisement. In the UK the Macmillan nurses do ten times the work of Livestrong with a fraction of the pomp. I don't much like doping in sport and have little respect for anyone caught, but how can anyone support Lance when he has ripped people off who are buying into this false tale of hope. He is a con-man and I hope he hits the very bottom with a very big bump.0 -

I reckon that when THAT starts it's going to shake him to his core. Amateur psychology coming up: his narcissistic personality feeds off the admiration, flattery and adulation. He can no longer go after and try to shut up people speaking out, and unless he locks himself away he's going to be out in public and unable to be constantly surrounded by a protective wall of sycophants and guards. He'll get looks of disgust from some people at best, and verbal abuse from others. And he wont be able to do a thing to stop it.0 -
Some of the Cancer connections are stomach turning.
What Lance didn't do in his 'fight against the stigma of cancer', is get everyone to be able to see past the stigma of criticising his involvment with his charity or the charity itself. In fact, he's ridden on the back of it... the bloke is as low as you can get in some things he does.0 -

Thanks nathan, it was only after I'd posted that it occurred to me that you might have been sarcastic etc. UK MacMillan nurses are absolutely wonderful (personal experience as above) and they're in my Will as a result. No pomp for them, and they are a Charity too.0 -
