How do you fit the programmes in around your normal riding?
I am just following them on after my usual rides, rather than sticking to the days religiously. So if the programme states that you should be doing a session on a Sunday, but I am out riding, I'll then probably do it the next day or the day after, and pick it up from there until it next needs adjusting
But I was wondering if this reduces the effectiveness of the plan?
Cheers.
I'm following the 40k TT plan. It has about 5 sessions a week. I only get out on Sunday and the plan for Sunday is usually a 90 minute ride or so. So I just skip that session if I've been out on the bike. If the weathers crap though - I just do that.
I think by riding outside and still doing all the sessions - it may hinder you rather than make you better. Rest and recovery is very important.0 -
I am now getting utterly confused and a tad fed up with the ios TR app for ipad/iphone.
I have an iphone 4s and an ipad 3 retina. On the bike I have a Garmin GC10 speed and cadence and have just got the Garmin ANT+ dongle for ipad/iphone. Neither the ipad nor the iphone can pick up any devices to pair. Thus I am unable to use the ipad/iphone TR app. Anybody able to tell me what I'm doing wrong and point me in the right direction to get this paired and working please?0 -
I think you've bought the wrong dongle. The Garmin dongle for iPhone/ipad doesn't work with trainerroad (or several other similar software). The page you need to read is here

Thank you for pointing this out to me. I at least have the reason why it won't pair my devices and so can stop frustrating myself wondering what I am doing wrong and move on. If anybody can make use of this dongle make me an offer and it's yours0 -

They do, but the Garmin dongle isn't (yet?) supported by the TrainerRoad software.
The FAQ on the website quite clearly states the hardware that's required for use with iOS.0 -
Do you chaps have any tips for fitting in Vo2 max/anerobic sessions through the week. I have always found that I can't do any high intervals either before or after work as I am typically either under nourished/not fully awake or tired/stressed/hungry which having a normal job makes getting these sessions in a bit of a pain.
So, is there anything I can do to wake up full of beans and raring to go (other than getting out of bed at 3:30 to eat a big breakfast, let it digest and finish my session before 7:00 to take my 3 year old to nursery) or last the day better (other than putting my feet up in the boardroom and having a wee nap) so that I am refreshed enough to jump straight into the session after picking up my 3 year old from nursery.
Any tips/help/info much appreciated.0 -

I think you just have to HTFU. If you're hungry have a snack before the session - just not a big meal.
You should wake up pretty quickly with intervals too.0 -
Trying to decide on a training plan, ideally id like one based around climbing and later in the year for endurance, looking to do a 400km ride in the summer. It doesn't seem like there's a plan specifically for climbing.
I have around 5-6 hours available to me a week and Id also like to continue real rides when I can. Any suggestions?0 -

We're actually in the process of revamping all of our training plans and creating a ton of new ones. We will have both climbing and ultra endurance options for you to choose from, and we will have a better system and helping you select which is best for you and your goals. Look for these later this winter or early spring.
For now, I'd recommend working on base. If you already have a good foundation, our new and improved Sweet Spot Base plans would be perfect to start with, followed by a soon-to-be-released Build plan. This will have you extremely ready to dive into either a climbing or ultra endurance specialty plan to peak your fitness for your big 400 km summer ride.

Finally all set up and got my 20 min test completed.
I have a long way to go but I sure enjoyed this.

that doesn't look right, all looks alright up until the 20 minute section, but then your heart rate line is too linear and there are power dropouts without the corresponding cadence drop0

hey, did anyone else here have problems with elite volare trainers regarding too high power readings? I have a elite volare mag force elastogel which is in the TR list. I did my first 20 minute test and it calculated my FTP as 366 which is way too high as I understand. I am a novice at best and I was expecting a number around 180-210. Cadence, HR and speed readings are fine but power output is anormally high. a very easy spinning produces shows around 200 watts. I mailed the TR support but They did not reply yet. Any ideas? Thanks.0

There is a BETA version of the Elite Volare trainer in the TR drop down list in the app.
You could swap and see if that prompts for a more realistic power reading when doing a workout.
The absolute golden rule in using virtual power is day after day after day , the SAME setup so any changes, good or bad, gives you a fair reflection of your work output. Get this wrong and you are training almost to nil effect.
If you cannot get this sorted, put what you have on Ebay and get yourself a Satori for example which I can guarantee will give you solid service for a little more money.
And yes mid 300 watts FTP for a novice rider is way too high, but you know this already.0 -

Thanks for the reply. Yes the WAHOO HRM was kicking in and out, not sure why yet.0 -
Question for the ipad users. When you have loaded a program I can't make the screen go from vertical to horizontal?0

I have spoken to TR about this. What we have right now is an IOS version for phones. It only runs in portrait mode as they correctly think it wont look usesble in landscape.
They are working on a more comprehensive version for IOS that will be designed with ipad in mind and run landscape.0 -

Trainer Road accepts any mp4 file but rejects avi files for instance.
The new downloads should just play, no further work required. Make sure you have latest version and if still an issue then raise a ticket with Trainer Road for some specific assistance.0 -
I have raised it with TR they told me it should play and that a black screen and audio usually indicates that the videos have been downloaded on an external hard drive.
This is not the case they were down loaded to my one and only laptop.
The sufferfest videos are brand new downloaded 3 days ago so these should be MP4 files.
Some Windows media players will not play MP4 files and mine was one of them.
Could it be that when I go to drop the video in TR that it tries to run my windows media player.
I know for sure these video`s run using the VLC media pllayer.0 -
have you tried installing a codec pack like k-lite etc.?0
-
Download an mp4 from YouTube for example as a test to see if that works within TR video player.
There was an older issue with I think Local Hero not being correctly codec'd .
I had to do it to get it to run.
TR fixed by asking users to use Handbrake (video converter) a free download in order to get H264 correct on the video.
You could try that, just takes a while to do the conversion and you can keep the original file safe of course.
However, newer releases shouldnt need this fix anymore but you may have a general video player issue on your pc.0 -
I`ve tried the codec packs.
I can watch the videos properly through the VLC media player but when I go to drop them in TR they wont run together.0
