To be fair I'm pretty sure all of us would have similar thoughts if it was our loved one. Problem is twitter enables you to instantly share those thoughts with the world.

TBF, it'll all be forgotten if Sky keep racing this well all the way to Paris. A few stages ago, people were moaning about Peta's tweets, about Cav's crash. Don't think anyone cares now Wiggo is in Yellow.

Is Cavendish having a rubbish Tour?

(Don't hit me! I'm not a complete novice to the TdF............)

By his own high standards, yes. By anyone else's, no.

    Not really...

He's said it himself that he doesn't expect much as he doesn't have a team to back him...

its not rubbish.. he's just not got a team to back him and is targeting the Olympics instead of green.

If he was loosing despite having full backing and a good lead-out then that would be rubbish!

    OK, since I've got non-sarcastic replies - thank you - I'll continue

I wondered why Sky signed Cavendish when it seemed to me they had already decided to go for Wiggins to win the Yellow. It seemed to me that a single team couldn't support both a Green and a Yellow in one Tour, and that's (little) me talking. No doubt other teams have pursued both ambitions in one Tour before, but maybe that was years ago. I'm wondering why they put Cavendish in the Tour when he's just done the Giro and is up for the Olympics, too. Too much? Won't he be exhausted?

I saw Cavendish collecting water bottles the other day and exclaimed out loud. That has to be a first for him, being water-carrier? (World Champion reduced to water carrier.........)

I'm sorry if this has all been discussed before: it's not possible to keep up with every thread.

"Thoughts" would imply, well, thinking. Twitter is a mechanism to knee-jerk the ether.

Nah, Cav's been waterboy before. Cav's aim this year is olympic gold. Think next year might be points jersey in Giro, and some classics.

Good to see Bernie and Cav crossed the line together 33.35 mins behind. I can imagine the banter at the back of the field going up those slopes

    '.......kin'ell Cav.....' '......... 'kin'ell Bernie.....'

bet there's a whole world of pain going on at the back there........

Said 'loved ones' should realise that the only reason they have any sort of an audience on Twitter is down solely to the hard work and talent of their partners.

When they do, they should STFU - at least for the duration of the race.

The whole WAGs thing is pathetic and utterly unprofessional. It will undermine the great work done by a team who try as hard to be as professional as can be. This needs reigning in. I think it is potentially extremely damaging.

I'd tell them all to STFU if I were Brailsford, whilst he still has any pretence of control over what are turning out to be some serious ego's.

In fact I'd ban the whole team and their WAG's from making any comments on twitter.

Never understood why athletes read stuff like Twitter in the middle of competitions, surely there is no way it can help and many ways it can hinder.

Dave Millar has just tweeted about a Sky Wags War

Any ideas what he is going on about?

Cath Wiggins tweeted about how Rogers and Porte are examples of "genuine, selfless effort and true professionalism"

Froome's girlfriend took offence to it, interpreting it as a dig at Froome's short lived attack off the front.

Peta Todd got involved by supporting Froome.

Blah, blah, blag - a few more short tweets (leading to Millar's comment) and everyone now claiming that they don't know what the rest of the World is reading into it; and there's really nothing going on.

As one other twit commented, if that's what's going on between the wife/girlfriends, then it must be interesting inside the team.

No Chris Froome gave up a potential minute or so into Bradley Wiggins lead. Ridiculous to see a sport brought to this. Froome should have been given the chance. He should not be stopped. Sport is about the best winning, no?
I bet other respected commentators will say something about what we saw today re Froome being shut down

How can you say that? He'd already had a slight wobble, if he'd kept that dig going he may have put time into Brad or he may have blown and lost time as Wiggins dieselled back up to him. It's impossible to tell from a brief attack.

Now can this thread go back to discussing the race?
There are some genuine-sounding question from newbies and some more old sh!te to be spouted from old duffers...

These women need to just STFU, what exactly do they hope to achieve? Cath Wiggins is more likely to lose her man the race than Nibali or Evans beat him at this rate.

I'm sure Cav's delighted at these developements between his 2 team mates for the Olympics and a 3rd on the side lines stirring.....

I should imagine the team have settled this by now... the wives will only be slightly better informed than us and a sight more emotional.

Today's all out, "gun to tape" action, ridden off at 31kph, seems to have temporarily left the Asylum at a loss for words.
    Great stage, great result! :)

Great stage that. Wasn't expecting so much action.

Two stinging attacks from Nibali that Sky coped with pretty well I think. Good to see Cadel attack so early, but it was very obvious he didn't have the legs.

Crazy, crazy attack from Froome, which I think Sky were right to stop. The only way they can lose the yellow jersey at this point is by leaving Wiggins isolated. Very hard luck on Froome, who certainly looks like he has the legs to win the whole thing, but from the team point of view they have 1st in the bag, and looking very promising for 2nd too; no point at all in risking that.

Brajkovic also with a slightly insane bit of teamwork. I'm guessing he had word that Kiserlovski wasn't feeling great.

They signed Cavendish because there's more than just the TDF yellow to go for. He had full support for the Milan San Remo classic race and had a good shot at the points jersey and stage wins at the Giro. He new he was on his own ('cept for Eisel) for the Tour and would be a stage hunter. The pay off is Froome and WIggins killing themselves to drag him over Box Hill 9 times and lead him out for the Olympics.

I think they decided to put all there TDF eggs in one Plan A basket rather than dilute effort.

Yeah he's done water carrier before - he's plays nice and it's good for the cameras....not sure if other superstar sprinters have done the same. Anyone?

TL is even funnier. "These are your top performers. Guys who can deliver big results and who are in the peak of their career."

I had to look at the Sky roster to figure out who TL was. Then I laughed.
