What was the gap between Evans and Wiggins?

    1.43

How significant is that for the Tour?[/excited commentator voice]

Was it a full on effort by both?

Ja hard to say. You'd have to guess probably yes.

You need to get better between this race and the Tour.

Is there any improvement left in Wiggins?

I thought Evans looked as if he was riding at 80% ???? he did lose his bidon as well which didnt help. Wiggins just gets better and better...am a bit worried he`s peaked too early as it`s 7 weeks away to paris.

I'd say very significant. Evans looked really good early in the week.
Plus Martin must've been going for the stage win.

    Very, very impressive.

The others do. At this rate Wiggins can hold this form and tear them up.

You can't hold form for 7 weeks I'd suggest.

He said he's targetted this stage and worked for it but he's not reading too much into evans performance.

I thinking as preparation/dry run for the Tour this has been perfect so far for Wiggins.

And he lost 1:09 to Wiggins in the shorter TT in last years Dauphine.

I agree with Frenchie. Wiggins isn't the one currently thinking 'WTF do I have to do to match this monster. It was ok when he couldn't climb, maybe we should just go for stage wins....'

I personally thought he was in Tour winning form last year and started a few threads along those lines. This year? Well - he is something else altogether. An absolute machine on a TT bike.

Was actually reading some quotes from 'wide eyed and legless' this morning. Its taken many years - but I think our man is going to write tour history this year.

Evans is going to have to put some serious time into Brad in the mountains. I don't see that happening.

Week 3 of the Tour there will be nothing between Wiggins and Evans in terms of TT'ing ability.

Or he might be even slower (unlikely). Up until last year the received wisdom was that Evans didn't TT well in the third week (based on 2007 & 2008 Tours).

    We just don't know.

The general view seems to be Evans as chief rival (and clearly - he won the thing last year) but do we see any other realistic competition for Wiggo??

I would have said Shleck - but he seems to be having 'issues' of some sort or another.

I just can't see Evans getting the better of Wiggins.

Jesus Iain, you don't like Cav because he's one of them there sprinter folk, yet Wiggins is a climber and still doesn't float your patriotic boat?

Yes. Being a good tester doesn't mean you're a good tester in week 3 of a grand tour.

Have a look at Andy Schleck performances in week 3. They tend to be a lot better, because GT's are about recovery, and if you recover well, that's what matters. So if you're contending for overall, you turn yourself inside out for 3 weeks and then have to TT well.

It only takes a couple of days for things to change RE Vuelta wiggins faltered and froome took over...as i said i just hope wiggo can hold his form as paris is 7 weeks away...Evans i guess is only about 80% just now.

Going into the Dauphine Evans was favourite for the Tour, with Wiggins in 2nd, so he's Wiggin's chief rival, especially since he's in a similar mould (TTer who can climb).
