o/t - they seem to be going from out to in (the left hand side travelling faster), yet when we do it as a club the the right hand side travels faster and comes across in front.
Is it this way round due to driving on the other side of the road?
Depends which direction the winds coming from.More problems but still living....0 -

They don't have to worry about traffic either."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Yep, Ramunas goes pop.0

Seeing pro's grind up steep climbs massively over-geared (even more so when they could change down) - when there's still a long way to go - I still find astounding.
I know most of us have done it at some point (or all points), but I've never encountered any evidence to suggest that effectively weight-training for the duration of a climb in a race is a good thing.0 -

I don't think twiddling away in your lowest gear is going to help you keep up with the pace being forced by some brute at the front who can push a 53 chainring uphill. You have to keep pace with the race, they aren't going to wait for people who want to look smooth."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Like I said - I've never seen evidence to suggest that mashing a gear at 30RPM up a 15% climb (including some zig-zagging across the road) is ever efficient - yet they still do it. The muscular damage is only going to compound the fatigue, too...0 -

But if you stick a compact or a 27 sprocket on you lose some of your ability to motor along on the flat in the closing stages, the fast, flat parts of the race are going to far outstrip the couple of hundred metres of steep hill.
In short, they do this for a living, I reckon they know what they're about."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"
