I lose the ability to comunicate with the whole world for a few weeks and miss this completely (until Squarepants mentioned it on tweeter last night), have you booked the camping etc??? A group probably 8/10 of us NW riders are looking at coming up the same weekend with the DH bikes for a bit of a play around (DH bikes are so much fun at GT), if you've booked the campsite already it's fine we'll look at booking on at Crossburn Caravan site which is 5 minutes from GT and meet up with you all on the saturday or see if they still have space at Glentress lodge. I have two tents that can be used one is an 4 bedroom 8 man and a 3 bedroom 7 man aswell
What if your dreams and fears existed in the same place? What if to get to heaven, you had to brave hell? What if everything you've ever wanted cost you everything you've ever achieved? Would you still go there?

    Hey Muttly.

Yeh I booked it all last night I'm afraid.

HOWEVER. I believe the camping field we're in is pretty big. If you guys get in touch with Ian from Glentress forest lodges I'll be willing to bet he's still got pitches left. They're directly opposite the hub too so it dosent really get any closer than that.
Judging by how much he charged us lot, it'll be pretty cheap too.

Once i get some numbers sorted next week i'll look at booking something but worked out 2 nights at Crossburn with the 2 tents and 10 of us will work out at £9.60 each inc electric hookup, on the saturday you'd all need to wait for us on the climbs as we'll be on DH bikes but we'll wait at the bottom  we'd probably stick to the same plan as we did last time in setting off at 6am friday as we had the tents pitched and riding at GT by 1.30pm. Will let you know how we get on as i may need a number for GT campsite, did you have to pay in advance or just a 10% deposit?

I didn't ask, I just paid in full.

As it happens, it's worked out at almost exatly the same price for us too (not sure about electric hookup though).

Sunday is gonna be the best day if you're all on DH bikes. Uplift at inners.

As for the saturday, I know there are a lot of different abilities going anyway, and lots of different types of bikes. Good thing about bigger groups though is there is more opportunity for people to ride at their own pace.

  • Theres 1 climb at GT that I'm not looking forward to and thats the shitty fire road up to the spooky wood climb.

Having said that, I've been off the bike for just about a month so I'll be putting some decent miles in before the Scotland trip :D

So much stuff to bring... need to make a checklist!

I think I know the climb you're talking of, it's a killer, but ends with a fantastic view!

Yep, i'm going to be getting the miles in before this weekend. I don't want my fitness being a downer

Richie, Mule - I may actually be able to get across on the Thurs if it helps.

Just bought the missus a Gucci bag so I've got an ample supply of brownie points to use.

That would be awesomely epic if you could make the Thursday!! Riding, curry and beer! Dunno how easy it is to get from Liverpool to Leeds, but I could then drive us to Sheffield (or you could get the train to Sheffield and I meet you there).
Don't use the brownie points in one go, you need to hold some back for future needs ;)

The climb isn't too bad if you go staight up to the spooky wood climb from the freeride park rather than going down pennel's vennel then climbing, pennels is a fun wee trail but as it is an easy enough run back to the buzzards nest it seems easier to head back that way (also means it can be sessioned). I also may be able to point out a few of the secret trails around GT that I have found/been shown if anyone is interested.

It's a good job this isn't in the crudcatcher or that would take on a WHOLE new meaning

I've been looking into coming on the thurs, things like flying into Leeds Bradford etc. Sadly though I can't see it happening. The only flight to leeds bradford gets in at about 5pm, so that's no good.

I could sail into Liverpool then get the train over, but I'll have all my stuff for camping for 4 days PLUS the bike, all the armour and all that guff, and even then, I'd not be getting into leeds until after lunch.

After lunch would be fiiiiiine. You've seen me drive! Only 40 mins to Sheffield. I may even be able to organise it that I collect you from Liverpool (I can arrange my week that I'm in Bury on Wednesday, then come get you on Thursday) if that would work. So far, I have no plans for that week....

hmmmm, if I could get a lift from L'pool, I'd be a much happier cat. Of course I'm happy to provide beer tokens in exchange for such a lift.

Just don't fancy schlepping my bike, plus all my camping kit, trail riding kit and DH kit through l'pool city centre and onto a train.

What's the dealio with the uplift?

Is it just a lift up to a high point where we can split off and do DH or the normal trails depending on balls/ability, or is it a lift to the DH trails? FF helmet/armour a requirement?

It's a DH uplift, but I know KM has booked onto it and plans to just bugger off at the top to go to the XC descent.

Booked on the uplift, shall be sessioning the XC trail though as I don't have the travel... or the gonads for the DH

Have all the people taking the XC bikes on the uplift checked with the organizers to make sure they're cool with it?

I mean, it shouldn't be a problem as long as they get paid right, but still I'd at least want an email from them beforehand to make sure.

Couldn't see anything on there about it being a problem, but contacted them anyway...

  • Pretty sure I know folk who do the uplift at Inners on all sorts of bikes, from 80mm hardtails up... Some of 'em ride the DHs too!

I can't help you with a lift up there but, as I'm in South Manchester, a lift back to the 'Pool on Sunday would be easy for me - unless you've made other plans.

What time's your ferry back over on the Sunday afternoon/evening?

That would be splendid if it's not too much trouble and provided you can drop me off at the sea terminal at about 6-6:30ish

re the uplift, I honestly can't see them having a problem with it. Just thought it would be prudent to double check.

No problem what-so-ever - sorted. I've got a Freelander, so there should be plenty of room for everything.

It should only take 3.5 to 4 hours (perhaps 4.5 to be safe) to get there, so can leave at 1:30 and you should be there in plenty of time. I'll probably be completely cream-crackered by mid-day anyway :D

I tried looking to see whether the uplift was for anyone, it didn't stipulate anything. I do remember that the DH track starts a little further down the hill than the XC, so I think a bit of a ride will get us to the top. As flyingmonkeycorps (Will) says, we know people that go up on all sorts, and come down DH and XC.

Cat, I'll pick you up on the Thursday then. What time do you dock at Liverpool? I ain't abandoning my car again this time looking out for you

That'd be pretty sweet if you don't mind.
I'll get in at about 10:15-10:30
There is a little carpark (pay and display) right there now. Your best bet would be to stick the car in there, grab a ticket, and I'll sort you out with the money for it once I dock.
If you're there early, I can highly recommend the maritime museum, the liverpool museum, and to a lesser extent, the Tate gallery. All of which are free to get into and only over the road :D

Have you still got the roof mounted rack?

I have indeed still got the roof mounted rack. I've used it several times since then though, and am much more confident with setting it up...
Most awesomest of awesomeness. This is going to be a great weekend! As long as Richie is ok with us crashing at his that night, then we head up en mass to Scotishire, via Gisburn 8)
