Haha.
I like Alonso. He's the kind of sportsman I imagine I'd turn out to be if I was world class at something. Fine at winning, terrible loser.0 -

What would Jeremy Clarkson think of this thread? His beloved F1 drivers with nasty cyclists.
Is Cameron a giant or something? Or just in a factory of midgets? Perspective is playing some kinda tricks on me today!0 -

Cavendish looks like he doesn't know why he's there. Button looks like he's pretending to be interested, whereas Hamilton looks like he wants to have a fight with Cameron! Who is of course walking in a very manly and purposeful manner is his bad trousers! Think I've summed it up quite nicely.0

And lets not forget Nige!

There's a terrible joke buried in the Cameron Hamilton thing but I can't bring myself to type it, else my liberal values be scarred forever.0 -

Looking at those pics of Prost he def looks tiny, but at the same time its just shows how big a guy Merckx is and must've been on his bike..
Did anyone read the PC feature on Ben Spies the Moto GP rider a few months back. Owns his own US cycling team.0 -

There was talk a while back of Alonso starting a pro team.

If you didn't know their identities and had to guess which one was an ex Tour de France winner you wouldn't pick Jan would you..."I have a lovely photo of a Camargue horse but will not post it now" (Frenchfighter - July 2013)0 -
I'm glad I can only recognise Button and Alonso in these threads. What a shocking hobby F1 is.Contador is the Greatest0

F1 is sh*t. Competition about who has the most money, the best tech's and the fastest car. Load of sh*t.
However, big fan of Nigel Mansells financial backing (almost entirely his own dosh) of UK Youth team.0 -
Perhaps we are seeing the F1-ification of our sport. Maybe within 20 years we'll see the Tour "grid" reduced to about 6 teams because it has become prohibitively expensive to run a team.0

F1 is a dreadful corporate whore-fest with close historical ties to Fascism and it's main aim is the glorification of speed, neo-liberal capitalism and the car as a symbol of power and status*. It is also very boring.
That said, I do recall that at one time (back in the 70's?) there used to be an annual F1 drivers' bike race which, as I recall, looked much like any other continental pro event. The drivers themselves often seem to be pretty fit all-round athletes.
*Nascar racing plays much the same role in the USA:Republican attitudes toward evangelical Christianity, unashamed commercialism, guns, the environment (racing cars still use leaded gasoline), and diversity (the Nascar garage is overwhelmingly male and white) seemed a perfect fit with Nascar values. Nascar supported Bush financially and courted his attention through its ruling family, the Frances. They have owned and operated the sport since 1947 when promoter Big Bill France whipped a brawl of hot-headed former moonshiners into a confederacy, the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing...
