  • 5 laps of the bike park. Sooooo much fun tonight - no idea why. And I was bookin' it. Got more air and hit more trannys than before - shame I have so few days left of park life for this summer.

  • Mmmmm, hot.

I passed very close to a bear yesterday, I literally could have kicked it in the arse as I passed. 1 year old cub. Was a little concerned where mum might have been.

  • I've just done 20 miles around Dunsop bridge. Followed a gpx tha gt I'm guessing came from a rambler. Some bits were good but we took on quite a few boggy fields. Got a KOM on a hill I mostly pushed up too.

Just did about 18km on my local loop, a bit shorter than usual as the missus is ill so I didn't want to be too far away.
  • Couple laps of bacton woods as a first ride back on a bike, enjoyed it. The only let down was me, far out of shape. Good to see somebody from the homelands here. (oldham. I'm originally from failsworth)

Another local ride today, was going to explore a bit of singletrack that I had spotted on strava, unfortunately about half way round the route I had planned to do (just before the fun descent), a stick got caught in my rear wheel and bent my mech hanger, stripped the threads and bent the mech, game over and I had to singlespeed it home, and I didn't even get to check out this bit of singletrack :(

I did get another KOM on another bit of descent near the beginning of the ride though, so that evened it out a bit :)

  • First time at Cannock Chase today. Did a lap of FTD and the Monkey before lunch, then just FTD after. Enjoyed it there, there's some great features. Would liked to have checked out Stile Cop, but ran out of time and energy. Unfortunately the drive is a right stinker for me so I doubt I'll be back for a while.

What a day, suns out, not to hot, not to cold and the trails are dry. A couple of hours free to get out in the Chilterns around Wendover.
That's local to me. What route did u take?
  • This was yesterday. An absolute epic ride. Very hard but very rewarding.

    Looks awesome felix!

I'm silly stoked to get back to Bangor tomorrow for university (got a couple of weeks before lectures start though). Going to get a load of riding in hopefully - if all my bits turn up in time (new frame and mech hangers). Mountain bike club captain this year so I've gotta know my routes, get fit and get a load of crap sorted for freshers week!

Haha, I've got some epic XC rides planned ;)

However I'm going to sit at home and cry all day tomorrow as my new mech hangers haven't arrived and I can't ride :(

  • Today I rode to work - takes about 3 minutes coasting down the road. But I rode to work so I can finish early this evenign and get 4 or 5 laps of the bike park in - I literally rock the sh*t.

  • Just done a night ride around gisburn with my new cheap chinese cree, it's a pretty good light.

Saw a stag on a bit of singletrack which was nice, and hundreds of broken reflectors.

Got a puncture first lap - walked in and borrowed a rental Aurum for 2 quick runs - didn't have time for any set up nonsense so I blame the dead feeling rear end on no rebound (absorbed big hits, dodgy landings well but on stutter bumps it felt like a hardtail), tyres were crap (cheap hard compound rubber just wanted to break traction with the slightest lean), bars too wide (Spike 777's - I currently have 690mm on my bike) and brakes were wrong way round but the bike jumped really well and carried speed pretty well, with some tinkering it would be a good DH bike - felt very light even compared to my single crown big hit.

Heading out again tonight - hopefully no puncture tonight!

  • Small local run today, nothing major. Up a hill and down again, downhill trail 1 minute from the house not bad.

  • here (yesterday)

And it was by far the hardest thing I have ever done on or off the bike. Just an absolute killer.
First climb from 1,700m up to 2,600m  then a 10km rock garden all the way down the other side. Then another climb from 1,800m to 2,200m. Then a great descent followed by a great lunch in an amazing little Italian restaurant - not bad for €24 for everything. This was the best shot of the day..and it just happens to be of me 8)

(I was the only person riding a hardtail out of about 30 riders...pussies  )

    Great picture

  • Tunnel Hill and MOD land around Pirbright ranges today. Perfect conditions. Lovely dry trails and found some new (very good) singletrack. :)

Did a nice little 30km local evening ride in Bangor, got shown some sweet techy singletrack I didn't know of, was pretty good until right at the end I slipped going down some wooden steps and gashed my knee

  • Did a cheeky ride in the bike park yesterday (due to land rights technically out of season the mountain is SHUT and you cant go on it but pfff who pays attention to rules?) - rode up one of the more xc inspired dh tracks, down one of the fun berm/jump runs to mid mountain, back up the green trail and then down to mid mountain on the rooty singletrack - it was sweeeeeeeeeet.

  • Elan Valley Yesterday.

    100_1742_zps0c1de17c.jpg

Physically exhausting due to high cross winds that drained me of power that ripped through my bones, caused my nose to run constantly and made reading the map that I was trying to follow nearly impossible.

The day before I did some awesome single track/technical double track with friends.

The picture reminds me that I have unfinished business at Elan. It's worth doing on a nice day if you fancy something a bit different, but the trail is pretty hard to follow if you are not used to reading maps or don't own a gps.

You should try following some of the footpaths around here on the open hillsides, it's difficult even when you are used to reading a map!
