Great week with a tally of 93 miles. Think i have cracked the 'sore-botty' syndrome, i can go for miles now!

I had my best weekends riding so far at Coed Y Brenin and Betws Y Coed. Arrived at CyB late evening on Friday and rode the Temtiwr trail which was a nice short blast, then the Beast on Saturday which I thought was amazing and finally the Marin trail at Betws on Sunday.

Argh, you should have headed roughly 3 miles South of Betws, and checked out the Penmachno trail. It's quieter than the Marin, but is (in my opinion) the finest waymarked natural-feeling trail in the country.

    * IMO.

    Not been everywhere in Wales
    Do this a lot
    Not many are way marked
Not everywhere is natural feeling as Tarmac is always involved

    But yeah I think it's 'good' ;-)

It was mentioned but none of the group had done the Marin bar one about 6 years ago, but 3 of the 8 had done Penmachno this year and didn't really rate it. I'm heading to Nant Y Arian on a stag do at the end of June and don't think many will be riding the Sunday so I may go on the way home.

Then again, having had a quick look it's not really on the way home!

The question mark was meant to signify WTF? In as concise a way as possible, since, whilst I'm sure you meant to say something, the random nature of the way you strung that collection of words together, ultimately means nothing to onlookers.

I rode some really sweet trails in BC's equivelant of a trail centre (ie a car park with some man made trails in the hills above) - 25 degrees, blue skies and dry but not dusty trails both days. Twas sweet!

In the last picture, you can just about make out the mountain mile on the TT course, where they were practicing last night. The sound echoes around that valley, great soundtrack to ride to.

Sadly, I think I've stopped for some reason.

I want one of the old Kellogs Cornflakes reflectors for my spokes, anyone remember them?

I think another ride is on the cards tonight, really want to start running again but the thought scares me

It would have been today if i'd joined on saturday. But i didn't.

We did the South Downs Way over the weekend, Winchester to Eastbourne.

Nothing technical but killer hills! I thought i was fit when we started, but 139 miles (route is 100miles, plus diversions for campsites, missing a signpost and ride home from train station) later i felt less so!

We had 28deg and clear skies each day which offered fantastic views but was a little too hot for ploughing up hills.

Very enjoyable ride with good friends and a good sense of achievement upon reaching beachy head.

I won't lie, i was shattered at the end. This has given me real motivation to improve my hill climbing and i've been actively seeking out any (albeit small) peaks in our local area.

The goal is to do the SDW again later this year in 2 days and then do it in 1 day next year.

I did Llandegla today and I'm still on a high from it. Never been before so was unsure about doing the black runs.. It was quality, love it.

Never been one for getting air but you cant help it, the speed you carry through some of the jump is mad. Want to.go again tomorrow.

  • I did both loops of the Altura trail at Whinlatter. Skies were clear, 14c, no wind, and an excellent trail made for a great days ride. Cant wait to go back there again.

Local pootling around running from the troops doing their shouting and going "bang bang". Best not to mess with them and move on. Not bad conditions after the rain.

Cannock chase monkey trail (again...). Ah well its only half hour away.

The heavy rain seems to have done some good. I think alot of the rutted trail has been washed away / filled in / smoothed off, making them better to ride. Still some heavily rutted sections though.

Only thing I'm going to moan about is the work STILL going on at the top of the monkey trail by the forestry commision (bunch of brutes). I went up there today to see what was happening and the old trail is practically non-existent. All that's left is huge swathes of deep digger tracks all over the forest. Its a real shame, I can't honestly see how they are going to rebuild that. It was supposed to be finished in April, but it doesn't say which year. Looking at it, that part of the trail isn't going to be open for a year at least, if at all. I mean look how long the rollers have been closed.
