Just back from a play in the woods. You have to get there early before the dog shit brigade arrive.

Went out for a cheeky "working from home" ride about 5, swiftly road into the stump end of a small cut-down tree left by the side of the path when trying to take the narrow dry line around the edge of a puddle! Speared in the ribs by said tree trunk, hoiked off the bike by the Camelbakc strap, and dumped on the ground on my back and the back of my head as the bike rode itself merrily on.

Sporting some nice parallel cuts down my right side, a badly bruised arm and leg, and a very sore neck - not looking forward to waking up tomorrow, especially as I am driving 150-250 miles each of the next 3 days. Deep joy.

Still, with that in mind (no possibility of riding until Friday) I kept going for another hour to get some training in :P

First 300m of Llandegla. Freehub died. They didn't have a 9 speed in the shop. Came home to Oldham.

Forest of Dean. Took my son (11) up there for his first proper off-road ride on The Verderers' Trail. However, it was chucking it down when we got there and the trails were very slippery. I was concerned he would take a tumble and be put off mountain biking so gave up after a mile or so and went back for a mess about on the skills loop. After that we had bacon and egg baps in the cafe, so it wasn't an entirely wasted trip. :)

Went out for a couple of hours on the local stuffs. Ignored the "Forestry Commission: No Public Access" sign and had a play in the woods, not like they're doing anything there at the moment. Got very wet and muddy. Was much fun.
  • Anyone know what cannock chase is like at the moment , i went 2 weeks ago and it was nice . Is it muddy ? Cheers .

I've literally just got back from there. Very wet, lots of big puddles on the ground, not exactly really muddy though (although it very rarely is, I mean I've been using a very old ignitor and a SB8 this winter and coped fine). None the less you and the bike will get nice and messy :D
  • Ooo cheers , i will probably hit it up then man :) My canyons maiden voyage :D

Rivington Tower to Darwen Tower via Abbey village then the Witton Weavers Way to Belmont a pint and a bowl of chips in the Black Dog pub then head home. Wet, windy, chilly, muddy and gritty but great fun. 25 miles 3,000 feet of climbing and no mechanicals.

I didn't, will probably hit Cannock tomorrow though.

Also managed to get the car for the whole day Monday so need to make decisions, so far the options are

    1) Cannock, I'd probably do some XC then spend a couple of hours DHing, get the GoPro out and get some decent filming done...but I'm always up there
    2) Sherwood Pines, just putting it in there to add to the list to make it look like there's lots of places to ride near me.
    3) The Peaks, just over an hours drive. Hope and Ladybower area, got a 24 mile route in mind that I think I can mostly remember (and I'm more than capable of navigating) mix of some nice easy stuff, few decent climbs and some great descents, can always cut it shorter too if I need to.
    4) Llandegla, just over 2 hours away, about as far as I'm willing to drive probably
    5) Lee Quarry, about 2 hours away, not sure why I'd go there and not ^
    6) Machynlleth, 2.5 hrs away... 5 hr round trip, I love the riding around there though...

    Decisions decisions!!

Took the SS out for its first natural outing today. Started at Keswick- up to Skiddaw House, down to Mungrisdale then back into Keswick- about 25 miles. Road sections were boring with a 32:18 though..

Cannock also today......weather was a beaut. As has been said, there are a fair few puddles but nothing bad. There is some major logging up around "the wood bank", however the trails are all running well.......only issue is a few rubbish berms still need fixing.

On holiday in NZ and rode this for the first time (not recommended on a hard tail, wish I had brought the new bike along). Long climb through stunning scenery followed by a rough but nice downhill, if you ever find yourself in this part of the world there are a multitude of tracks and trails to suit everyone.

Yesterday was a short ride on the Cotic demo day around the white peak and today I had a blast round the dog and monkey at Cannock. Fell absolutely shagged after being off the bike for four weeks with a bad knee!

Took the opportunity to get out whilst the weather was good and my wife could look after my daughter. Had two hours around Pirbright, Frith Hill and Tunnel Hill on the MOD land. Some surprisingly good sections! :D

Spent a while on the AM bike at the local downhill spot for a bit of a change, cut through and shifted the last fallen tree on one of the older trails as well. Local riding scene is coming along nicely, and I'm getting well into this building lark! :)

Did the same on saturday as well, but spent more of the day cutting through fallen trees

Enjoyed Stainburn very much yesterday! The black run is about as much fun as I've had in a while. Managed to get some air off of the slab on the red too. I seriously hate living on the edge of Lincolnshire... It's not a big place at all but the three descents we tried we cracking. A few nice technical climbs too to build some skills on.

Saturday I did a couple of laps round the Ashton Court trail in Bristol. First time since they re-did it, quite impressed.
