  • Gorlech for me today. It's by far my favourite trail and after nearly 2 months off with injury, it was interesting to see how much work they've done to the trail. It was flowing faster than i remember and was great to be back.
I don't know enough to make smart r's remarks about peoples choice of parts 'n' things, yet!
  • *cough* Road ride to end of Green lake and back - beautiful afternoon but can feel the cold air and hint of winter coming. Which is goooooooood.

This is the ugly side of Whistler:

*cough* Road ride (on MTB's due to the 'road' quality), 50 miles total in temperatures rising to 33C, only mild sunburn!
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • Took part in the BHF Peak District Challenge on Saturday - only did the 15 miler as wasn't sure if my fitness & skill level was up to the longer routes.

Had a great day - the climb up Mam Tor was hard, but the descent was great fun!
Will be back next year to do one of the longer routes.

  • Well not me but my 9 year old on his first mtb race, he thought it was going to be an easy win :D but he came 7th out of the 12 in his race, I was well pleased, but he was a little upset he wasn't world champion and got a sponsorship deal waiting for him

    Dad was over the moon.

Is that bike a little small for you and the saddle too low? Good job on the ride though Mam Tor is a good ride spot.

Bike is 18inch and feels about right for height & reach.

Saddle does need to come up a bit - experimenting with heights.

Sit on the saddle, heel on the pedal and leg should be roughly straight for a good pedalling position. For varied terrain with no dropper post you might give yourself 1/2-1 inch below that to find a balance between pedalling and ability to move off the saddle. Good position on the bike gives max efficiency from your muscles and helps with distance - maybe get you on that longer ride!

Photoshop. It's amazing how much information is buried in photos that look as if they didn't work. And it only took about two minutes to dig it all out.

Had a nice weekend on the bike rode Cym Rhayadr yesterday, quite a short trail that my son thought was boring, mind that's 9 year old for you and to day up on the hills locally at home it was thick and very cold fog which almost made me turn round and do something else, but plugged on and got above all the fog and it was a lovely sight all the fog in the valley floors and lovely warm sunshine.

Heading home back into the fog :(

3 minutes into a ride supposed to be to Blackstone Edge had a proper fall onto a rock slab. Not 100 % sure how it happened. Never had grip Issues there before. I got up but knew something wasn't right, I'd used the dad uplift service so I had to ride home. 12km one handed on road, just up and down, no flag at all. I've had better rides (with less brake dragging!)

Dropped bike home then walked the 400 metres to A&E. I've got an "impressively" broken arm, soft tissue damage to shoulder and thigh (not too bad) and some battered, but ultimately intact, ribs. Elbow is getting pinned tomorrow. Where is the nurse with more pain relief...?

You got lucky with the weather there. It can be very hit and miss at the best of times up there.

Tell me about it, I only live down the road, it can be bad at sea level, let alone up in the mountains! Funnily enough, the four times I've been up snowdon, the weather has been great!

  • Blast around Woburn today which was surprisingly dry. Hit some of the secret Trek Factory trials on the MK side before moving across and checked out Woburn Sands at the end to see how the rebuilding is going on. Looking pretty good again with Transfer Line riding well. Good times.
