My take on this for what it's worth. On the whole I don't see the problem as the pictures are contained within threads that make it pretty obvious what's in them but I could see the point in the objections if the pictures were making their way into other threads. Add to that very few of the images could be classed as p0rn although there are a few that have crept in that are close to the mark. Personally I don't even look in the girls in lycra thread anymore as it had gone off topic to the points where people were posting any old photo of scantily clad women (I prefer the girls in rainwear myself ;) ). Yes, it's a cycling site but the Cake Stop sub-forum is for discussing non-cycling subjects. I am more bothered when any mention of women's racing in pro race gets people making comments such as "yes but would you" as that is disrespectful.

Some of the arguments put forward by those opposed to the threads are frankly ridiculous. How can anyone argue that the girls in the photos are being exploited? They will have generally chosen a career in glamour modelling and are well paid for it. It's not like the images are from the darker side of the p0rn industry where people are forced into it or are taking part to feed drug addiction etc. Would I want my daughters to do it? No, but when they are old enough to make a decision like that it is entirely up to them. Also, someone said that teenage boys might find the images by accident! Have we forgotten what it was like to be a teenage boy? Back in the day teenage boys would have been actively seeking out images like that - the best we could hope for would be the Daily Sport or, if really lucky, a discarded copy of Penthouse but would probably make do with the underwear pages of the catlogue! In these days of the internet I think they can probably find much worse (better?) without any difficulty - the vast majority of the images in the 'girls in' threads would turn up in a Google search with moderate safe search switched on. All the images are easily available on the web already so it's not adding anything new.

Not sure Nev, I successfully drove to work after checking in my wheel arches and under the car with a mirror on a stick and also managed to share a smile with the girl behind the till in the local shop without being peppered sprayed and accused of being the scurge of humanity so we could be in the clear. I wouldn't go back to smacking the secretarys arse as she loads up the photocopier just yet though, give it a while eh.

Anyway... Anyone else enjoying the advert on page 131 of this month's Cycling Plus advertising 'The Official Tri-UK Weekend' with the naked hottie slap bang in the middle? Phwooooar!

I concur, she be a hottie.

The girl who models a lot of the Merino base layers on Planet X caught my eye yesterday too. I thought Merino was meant to keep you warm?

Well I guess given that the C+ guys see fit to post advertisment pics in their mag like those, I think they would find it hard to justify banning posts on here of a similar nature!! 8) 8)

Long live the "Girls In" threads........and the Planet X / Tri-UK Weekend lass

Even if that's true, so what? If he has a point, it hardly matters whether he came on it by accident or design.

And it's undeniable that there is a genuine point here, whatever your or my opinion on it may be.

In other news, it's all a bit Ron Burgundy in here, isn't it? I swear I can hear a jazz flute playing in the background.

Agreed, I've been posting in the discussion thread purely because that felt like the right place to post. However, I do feel that there's a problem, or I am certainly of the opinion that there is something wrong or not right with how the Girls in threads are being or have been being used.

There's a proliferation of them, its easy to ignore the subject matter if its in one thread, rather than 1/2 a dozen of them.

Because there's a few it does give to the casual observer that the point of cake stop is to post pics of girls. There is nothing wrong with that, I like looking at girls, and there's plenty of really attractive ones whose pic has been posted.

I used to look at the Girls in Lycra thread, I dont anymore, mainly because I didnt like the sort of pictures that were being posted in there.

I'm personally of the opinion that some of the subject matter has no place on a cycling forum. Yes I know this is the less cycling focused section of it, but it seems to have taken over. I'm not for one minute offended by it, far from it, but I was offered a chance by the moderator team to offer my opinion which is what I did. I'm not expecting anybody to agree with me and things to be suddenly changed just because I thought that it should be looked at.

There are people with strong opinion's on both sides and theres some people who probably dont care, there are some people who probably are not speaking up either because they don't care or can be bothered to get into an argument over it.

I've offered what I believe a workable solution, I'll repeat it.

    1. All threads merged into one
    2. No content that would not be suitable for pre-watershed viewing on main stream TV i.e .BBC1 is posted.
    3. Girl or blokes should be covered up i.e. no nipple shots
    4. The thread should be moderated and it made clear when an image has been removed and why

Now I believe that would work, it means that the threads can stay and the majority of the posted images would remain. But it would bring the tone of it back to something a little more appreciative of the female form. It also means its easier to ignore it all if its in one place. It also means there is room for other subject matter and it wont then give the impression that cake stops primary purpose is to post pics of girls.

There is still the issue of if something in the Magazine's that future owns is posted that breaks those guidelines what happens then. There is also the issue that there are different levels across the sections of the forum where some things are OK and other are not.

It would also seem to me that only one member of the moderator team actually gives a stuff and has put his head above the parapet and copped alot of flack, where the others either aren't interested or think its OK how it is, but simply are not commenting. Personally I'd like to hear the thoughts of more of the moderator team.

This could all be sorted by somebody either the site owner or a site admin / moderator having some balls and making a decision. Its going round and round because no decision is being made, which by default means the status quo remains.

The other option would be to delete all the threads and then start again, now the fact has been aired that some people arent happy with the content, perhaps the people using the thread will be aware of that and maybe not post some of the more controversial / or close to the line pictures.

Somehting I've noticed, and posted in the main p*ssing & whining thread:

The problem with internet forums, is that people see them as a a place where they can wee-wee, whine, argue and complain about things that don't interest them, don't effect them, don't really bother them and they don't contribute to.

I see a lot of that happening in this discussion.

    Just saying.

Every newspaper published has these type of pictures, the red tops every day and even the broadsheets on regular occassions. Nothing I've ever seen on here could be described as pornography.

Some of the helmet cam crap posted in commuting could be said to have a more corrupting influence on the impressionable youth than anything in the Girls In threads.

Yep sure I know that. I've not seen anything that I would describe as porn either. But I do feel the tone / type of images has slipped and the Girls in Lycra shorts thread has wandered away from the spirit that I believe it was initially set-up for. Rather than moaning about it, I was trying to offer what I felt was a constructive solution to what I felt the problem was.

Why is that every liberal argument starts off
" I have no objections...used to do that myself...people have every right to...
    then quickly turns to
" I personally dont like...I wont do that...I want it stopped..."
    Matts right.

Errr, no. On two counts. First the Commuting thread was "original" and locked before the "Discuss the site" thread was opened. And second, the commuting thread was not one sided, as far as I remember.

Of course the girls are attractive, but what makes the thread for me is the funny comments, by posters who know they absolutely no chance with women like this in the real world. Isn't it a British humour/humility thing and harmless for those involved?

I include myself in the no chance category, don't worry...no ideas above my station..etc...

Having perused the Girls in Lycra Shorts to see what you are all talking about, I have to disagree - all I see there are the endless calls of "yeah, I'd do 'er, humminahummina". I mean, c'mon boys, step it up. It's hardly worth my time to wade through all this inanity just for the rare gem that shines through the rest of the dross. I think I saw a clever comment from 2009 but the image link was broken so I can't really give it full marks.

As for harmless, again, no, it's dangerously mind-numbing and liable to send the reader into a coma. At the very least, you may fall asleep and spill your coffee causing untold amounts of damage to your hardware (by hardware I mean computer - stay focused now). Seriously, I've seen more interesting images painted on the sides of overpasses in New York City. And certainly the grammar is better.

Flapjack, we are all guys sad enough to spend time on an internet forum, I clearly haven't studied the thread, pictures of women and comments quite as intensely as you had,,,but you can't expect every comment to be a gem..can you?

I guess I have much higher expectations from the community of pimply-faced adolescents who spend inordinate amounts of time locked in their parents' basement trawling the 'net for titillating photos than you. I mean, if you're going to spend that much time on something, do it well. Have some pride in your work. Honestly, kids today...

See, that's what I'm talking about. So disappointing. I take the time to try and motivate you guys to reach for the stars and this is the response I get. I realize that not everybody is cut out for endless hours under the pale light of a computer monitor, copying and pasting images to share with their like-minded chums, but for those who make it their lifes work, good on you! I just want you to do well, to find something that you can feel proud of.

I mean, your not going to get anywhere in life with an attitude like that. Buck up, dd! I know you have it in you. You'll do better next time.
