  • I'm up for this, so long as it's not raining! The route looks great, a nice tour of all the best roads in the area.

Not sure if I'll be able to make it this year - Already got a big ride sorted for the weekend before so depends on how nice I manage to be to the wife in the build up!
Although if Colin promises to wear his World Champion jersey then I might make more of an effort 8)

Can I play please? I've never ridden in a group and I'm pretty slow. Do you think I will be able to keep up - this was my longest ride to date: http://app.strava.com/rides/2947464. As for hill climbing I'm very slow, here's my best attempt at a hilly route: http://app.strava.com/rides/3259832.

    What's the planned start time?

All the info in 1st post.
You should be fine. There are some challenging little climbs in the route but it isn't relentless. I'm very unfit and overweight at the moment due to recovery after accident.

Anyone fancy getting a few miles in before the spring fling? If you're round my neck of the woods, then you might be interested in this...

Serious lurker here, but as I work round the corner I can't really say no to a nice ride in the hills. I don't have any mates who cycle either, so will be nice to ride with some other people for a change!
Here's hoping the weather is decent!

NapD, any chance of another ride in Aug/September? I'd love to drive up next month but already have plans (of the none Mothers Day variety).

Would be nice to put faces to made up names.....

    There's been a development...
Recce'd the route today (it's tough for unfit fatties like me) but stunning! Very pleased with it.

    However,

There's a new microbrewery open in danebridge before the cafe stop. I stopped by to have a chat with the owner. I inquired as to the possibility of us stopping by for a 'taste' and it's a goer, let me know if anyone is interested so I can contact him so he knows we're coming. It'll probably involve a nominal donation...

Come to think of it, the brewery is just before two right buggers of hills. We'd probably all be sick. Probably be best to give the tasting a miss...

I managed to get round so they can't be too bad. Albeit it took me over an hour longer than it would have a year ago...

  • So what was your Average power watts over the ride? Just so I can work out if its worth me turning up.
I`m recovering from an OP and don`t want to over do it.But I would really like to turn up this year and ride some unknown territory.

Dunno. Don't have a power meter.

    But I was very sloooooow.

I would gues the average would be in the mid to high 100's. Bearing in mind I'm 95kg that's pretty poor.

I fully anticipate being the slowest chap there and tbh I do not mind one bit!

I got this month's C+ including the 2012 Events pullout. I didn't see the Spring Fling in it.

You guys are beginning to worry me with all this talk of those hills.

Colin and I rode most of it again today, a good 4 hour ride.Wincle is such a biatch!!
However I still manage them at my hefty weight and lack of fitness, so everyone else should be fine.
There may be an alteration (and shortening) by climbing up to the cat and fiddle road from Wilboarclough (we did that today) because now its resurfaced the descent is just so damn good...

It was a recover ride for Colin with some lvl2 on the hills, whereas I was blowing out of my backside from the off!

The route is tough in spots - but definitely doable. Let's just pray for a dry day otherwise it'll all have to be re-routed to avoid some of the hills!

Pleasant ride despite a few short and sharp hills!

I've got a pass out for the day and I have met the qualifying criteria*.

    So, I am in!

Looking forward to crossing the border from W Yorks and seeing you all.

Is it still the same route as you posted before?

Yeah, although as always, we can tweak it as we go depending on how people feel. Colin and I have a good knowledge of the area...
