Own up. It was definitely someone. It didn't happen by itself.

Can we have the old look back?
Swim. Bike. Run. Yeah. That's what I used to do.

There's a big blue block of nothingness on the right-hand side of my screen, and it's obscuring some of the text (including the bit I'm typing now, oh no, I can see some of it).

What have they done. Was really bad before, but somehow they've made it worse.

At least it's back ... progress of the upgrade (?) was not communicated very well at all.

We did that so we could increase the width and give more precedence to the forum content.

@Josnor - not sure how to do that but, if it helps, I can only read "And let us k".

And why is there a Subaru Outback in the middle of the thread? Bugger off.

  • OK, well, we've had a chance to see the new layout in operation now.

    We don't like it.

Can we have the old layout back please?

There were announcements posted in every forum. Unfortunately we couldn't update those last week after the initial attempt to restart the forum because ... we couldn't post on the forum.

The main reason behind this upgrade was because the old forum was in danger of falling over, as it had done so already earlier this year. You should notice a marked increase in speed with this one.

Other feedback is best posted here and we'll see what we can do: viewforum.php?f=40033

Hate the bloody ads. Sorry, but really hate them to the extent that I may be decamping.

In some ways it's better. I can turn off signatures, at least. And I can click straight through to any of the subforums without having to expand the top level forum first.

But it needs "quick reply" to be open by default. And those banner adds between every 5 posts will probably drive me away.

Jeff - can't read all your post. The right-hand thrid is obscured by blue nothingness.

At least the forum is back...I had less work than I thought last week and had to survive with one less forum to spend time on :(

The review post page that allows you to read posts made while you are writing yours could be handy.

Cured the forum being tooo wide for the screen with 'Ctrl' + '-', text is also a little smaller but I can see all the screen and no scroll-bars.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    Maybe!

re: the ads, there's no longer a skyscraper, so the forum posts can be wider.

Serious question: would anyone pay for a subscription to the forum if it meant no ads? (I've no idea if we could implement this)

We're looking into that. Can you give us your browser type + version, computer (PC, mac, etc) and screen resolution if possible?

    Serious answer?

    Fuck off.

You change something for the worse, then tell people they can have the original back if they pay.

  • I remember there being quite a few complaints after the last forum change. Everything worked out ok in the end. Just be patient everyone.
As for there being big blocks of blue screen and bits missing, everything looks ok to me.
