I'd kill to have the balls to sell my car and throw away my savings on a 240z project.
i very rarely enter this "sensible" part of the forum, hence my exclusion from this topic thus far
tbh it was forza 3 that got me into the 240z,
Yeah yeah, don't lie Law type, you just liked being taken for a ride by Gazlar's black beast, made you like the muscly type
you mean that plastic piece of americanness with white stripes you call your car? Its hardly a muscle car gaz, no matter how much you tell yourself that :P0 -

Lawman, no point in trying to hide what's going on. I've corrected your post.0 -

Hmm... got my Pug 407 for sale at the moment... it's not exactly a dream car but I'm hoping for a Focus estate 1.8 TCDi. Will be great for taking four lads to Alpe d'Huez this summer. Might even make my own WVO fuel if the local chippy will give me their leftovers.0

Do like my Focus, even if it is a bit shagged. But I'll be chopping mine in for a Mondeo if I can, again not a dream car but so practical- massive in the back, I mean the Focus has a huge boot considering its size but you can just about fit a focus in the boot of a mondeo estate. And you get a bit more car for your budget as well since Foci are a bit more in demand.
Back to dream cars instead of practical ones though... Race day at inners today so there was a stream of gorgeous motorhomes with massive dh rigs strapped to the back coming back up the road. Do want! Though I don't think I'd like driving them much.Uncompromising extremist0 -
With a family to transport and not much cash my dreams and expectations have dropped, hence I bought another one of these last week.

I've just seen the 2012 Focus ST
I like that a lot. Currently got a boring diesel focus (which is as fast as Gazlars [DIESEL!] 'muscle car' ), and ST would be nice. Fast, but without being overly chavvy like an RS.
And the new ECOboost engines they're doing sound very promising, 250bhp from a 2L petrol engine on the ST. Though, the ST would be out of reach for me for a long, long time, unless it turns out that I cr%p jewels! But they also do smaller ECOboost engines, the 1.6 180HP one has more power than all but the very top (123d M sport) BMW 1 series, and more than their 320i 2 litre engine.0 -
bails87 wrote:the 1.6 180HP
That is a very surprising figure  My 2.0l petrol 407 gets 134bhp, and I'm pretty sure the 2.0HDI is 134 also... The 1.6 TCDi focus estate I'm swapping to this weekend is a weedy 110bhp (which is better than the 1.6 90bhp that is my second choice)! Estate ecoboost please!0 -
That ST looks a bit like it's trying to catch krill.
I'd like to see the power curves on that tbh, Ford sometimes seem to like to go for a peaky tune, gives them a nice big bhp figure but not always so nice to drive. They made a right balls of the old 1.6 petrol Focus IMO, rags along lovely on fast sweeping roads but it's a bugger to reverse up my driveway when it's loaded. My own 1.8 diesel makes about 30 powers less but it has a load more torques so it'll idle up things that the 1.6 needs a club foot and a melting clutch for.Uncompromising extremist0 -

There are, confusingly, four different 1.6 petrol engines, with PS outputs from 105 to 182. There also a 1.0 ECOboost with 125PS, more than my 1.8 TDCi!
Edit, just compared the 1.0 ecoboost to the normal (105PS) 1.6. The 1.0 is faster to 60, 20% more powerful, more economical. The 1.0 is free to tax for the first year, and then £85 a year cheaper than the 1.6. Why would you buy the 1.6?!0 -
Torques is what I need really, the focus will be loaded with four FR bikes, four lads and two weeks worth of kit, plus armour, spares and a tool kit, then driven like it's the LeMans to Alpe d'Huez.
That table does have some really impressive stats, though I wouldn't know if the 1.0Ecoboost would be happy with so much weight. Does high power always convert to many torques?0 -

shouldn't be too amazing. The Berlingo is a 1.6hdi with 110bhp. Having it remapped to get more torks for towing horse trailers. Could have it mapped to 140bhp+ no problem.
Problem is that with increasing tech limits to gain more power means tighter constraints on various parameters that increase costs when things go wrong. The next Mondeo will have the option of a 3 cylinder 1ltr eco engine. FIAT are developing a 4 cylinder twin air that will be 200bhp+ from 1.2ltr. VW already have a 1.2 that's good for 110bhp+Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

It's all about the turbos now these days, thats the only way they can make small engine low emmission cars with a semi decent power output.
Surprised it wasn't done sooner.
Only problem is turbos are generally rather expensive to replace, so if petrol cars are fitted with them its another potential cost in deciding whether to go petrol or diesel.
Before you'd weigh up less fuel economy vs less parts to potentially fix like turbo/dual mass flywheel and so on with a diesel.
Additionally its a false economy if you think having a small engine is always good, it depends on how you drive it. If you like to reach say 70mph without it taking you 2 minutes from stand still to achieve then a smaller engine car will work harder and use more juice than a slightly larger engined motor (generally).0 -
The 1.6 TDCi Focus Estate is mine!! Now, any advice on how I can eek a bit more power from the meagre 90bhp engine? Gran Turismo made upgrading seem so simple... But I might spend a bit of money to eek out some torque and MPG from her if it's not to hard / expensive.0

The release of the new golf cabriolet has made me realise just how much I want one of these
Though not it white, black or red perhaps, and modified slightly. Mmmmmmmmmmmm lovely...0 -

On the TDDI it's possible to simply turn up the fuel pump flow slightly, gives it a little more power right through the revs at a cost of a little fuel economy (and a bigger smokescreen). Not sure if that applies for the C though.
Mapping/chipping might do the business. Might also cause the clutch and DMF to explode faster How old's the car?Uncompromising extremist0 -
Hmmm, I think for me it'd have to be a Zonda F Roadster Final Edition, Koenigsegg CCXR or a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport...
In all honesty, I don't think I could physically spend that sort of money on a car, much better spent elsewhere (property etc)...
This was a nice motor, wouldn't say 'dream car', but still nice:
Can't beat the RR for a bit of luxury though. Will always keen one of these in the fleet:

That's why this is the realistic dream car thread, i'm looking at a remapped focus for instance!
The focus is an 05 plate, can you get filters and exhausts that make an improvement?0 -
The aforementioned cars are realistic is financial terms, but my father would KILL me, my Mrs would disown me and Green Peace would probably hunt me down!
I like the look of the new Lamborghini Aventador for summer, if I can get hold of one that is.0 -

Whose financial terms? Not mine, and not the intention of this thread. Your defiling it's good intentions. (And for someone whose primary concern is what your father thinks about what you spend your money on, you're lucky to be married at all).0 -
Don't get your knickers in a twist. Regardless of wealth, we all still have dream cars!0
-
Ryan does have a point. Those cars may well be realistic for his (seemingly very large) means, plus he has given reasons why they are dreams, (finances not being one of them), seems fair enough to me. Just because they are out of reach for the vast majority doesnt mean they aren't valid.
is there a limit on budget? Maybe the title needs a change? After all, if its a dream car, does that not make it unrealistic as its a dream (whatever the reason), and vice versa?Santa Cruz 5010C

sadly enough I saw, and instantly wanted, a... *takes deep breath and expects instant abuse* Hyundai Veloster the other day, looked amazing and looking at the performance figures, not too shabby either!!
