There's a feller down the road from me that has a Delorean... It lives in its own seperate heated garage and comes out about 10 times a year. It might or might not be crap, no idea tbh, but it's a very cool thing to see out on the road, it's got incredible presence. Even if it can't fly.

I thought I'd posted this earlier... Bit on the practical side but i'd have me a Mitsubishi Legnum VR4, I love these things. Boot could be bigger and the fuel economy and insurance would be a pain though. I just love the look of the things, they brood. Front end like a clenched fist... Sometimes, you've just got to get your Ikea wardrobe quarter of a mile away in a hurry ;)

Any of you lot done a RWYB day at a strip?

Yeah done it a few times, can be a giggle. Was fine in my front wheel drive cars but getting the GTR off the line was a real tw@t due to the surface (an my fear of the box going pop).

Would be good to have some before and after times so you can see how to work has helped if any. However you MUST do a trackday, being able to really open the car up is awsome.

Well for me it would be a Vectra VXR Estate. I love estates and this is as quick in the real world as most things. It can do sensible family car or screaming monster equally well and wouldn't break the bank!

done plenty of track days a single seater stuff, but never up the strip? Odd but true. I too will be nervous about blowing things up or causing lasting damage, but you only live once ;-)

You should, it's awesome... Won't be doing it in my car-behold my 20 second quarter mile! But it was a blast on the bike, even if I did explode my clutch trying (failing) to get into the tens. Great days out, for a petrol head.

This was my Nissan 180sx 2.0ltr turbo manual when I had it a few years ago back in Oz, 0-60pmh in about 6 secs, was totally standard, but then while working on the mines I stockpiled about AU$15,000 worth of upgrades for it - bigger turbo, intercooler, exhaust, coilovers, rims, R33 brakes, suspension parts, stereo, alarm w/remote start, new taillight cluster etc etc, was planning on turning it into something like this (although not quite that low)->

    g4-180-f1024.jpg

Before I decided to move to the UK and had to sell it and all the parts before they even went on the car :(
Dreams shattered, but at least I didn't lose too much money, just a bit of time...

Oh and to the OP, my mate back home still has a red 240Z in his garage (with a fair bit of rust) that we used to hoon around in 15 years ago, he'd transplanted the L28 with triple carbs into it, the thing used to fly, especially when crammed in the hatch looking up at the sky out the rear window after a night out :-)

Interesting how most people here are into jap cars.

Currently got my realistic dream car, Civic Type R (FN2). As a goal, I want the new nissan GTR before I'm 30. 8 years to go...
    Road: Felt AR0, Di2
    Touring/commute: Dolan Multricross
TT: PX Exocet Sold because it was like a sail in the wind (sh*t)
  • For me, they would be 400BHP+ at the very least:

    redbourne_range_rover_sport_supercharged_baron_silver.jpg

Range Rover Sport HSE Supercharged for commuting & long trips

    2010-Porsche-911-gt3-rs.jpg

Porsche 911GT3 RS for track days and a little bit of fun

    Lastly:

A Holden Maloo "Ute" for a little more fun and lugging bikes around..
  • I started reading this thinking how much i love these types of thread, but sadly realised a while back ive no real dream car! Don't get me wrong, there are cars i'd love the use of but nothing jumps out anymore!
Most of the current crop of cars are so heavy in comparison! Look at the golf for instance, mk1 gti was something like 900kg against the latestat close to 1700kg!! Imo the golf lost it on the mk3 when it started its wdight gain program!!

But! If i could have the use of a Sierra Rs 500 cosworth, I'd be very happy! Likewise a malard green escort cosworth would be great! And a silly horsepower American muscle car thzt rocks from side to side when you give it some beans at a standstill!! And an alfa 156 gta for thzt sound znd the way they drive!!

I have to say though, given the chance I'd love to have the 4 cars of my past drivin history fully l restored and they would be a '79 mini 1000, a '77 mini with. An 1100 dropped in and a host of other mods done to it (all by me i might add! Inc. Stg3 hesd, vizzard carb, lcb, rc40, buckets etc.) '89 p1 peugeot 309gti - loved that car! 4 years and 40k miles, and finall the car that never failed to put a smile on my face '90 p2 citroen. Bx 16v,
And for pure q-car status, a 3l v6 citroen Xantia activa!!

Part the trouble with working in a garage cleaning all manor of motors is you get to drive them in all conditions! Some beat to death little 1.1ax's were so much more fun to dri e than some of the much more desired cars!that said no matter what I'd been driving i always looked forward to the drive home in the bx!

you sir are a masochist and a bad one at that! All those French cars, I bet you wear studded leather pants with the studs on inside!

    I am only joking

one of the best cars I ever drove was a 205 1.9gti, more fun than a lambo but dot tell anyone

    Land_Rover_Aircon1.png

but if I didn't find such large cars so useful I'd have one of these

and almost bought a stunning example just like this acouple of years ago but the missus wasn't too happy about the left hand drive aspect

Probably because this is the realistic dream car thread - quite a few rice rockets were and still are more than capable of embarrassing exotica with some well chosen mods and still not cost a fortune. I took mine on track as it was the only way to use the performance properly without losing my license/ending up in the slammer! Brilliant fun while it lasted 8)

Original Mk 4 Celica GT Four - 180bhp, 4 wheel drive room in the boot for a couple of bikes.

I'd take the Mk 5 if I had to - someone told me there were only 4 or 5 left in the country of the Mk 4.

I had that shape Celica, great fun, wasn't a GT4 though just a GT16, I paid £175 and run it till it died, I needed a run around car when i moved from Cornwall and this was great. The exhaust blew and made a fantastic noise lol but it did attract the attention of me and mrs plod who weren't to happy about the lack of rent. £90 fine and end of a nice fun car. It was back to company cars for a while after that :(

And to all those putting up Discos and Masarattis (Richie63); are you in the right thread!?

I appreciate the Celica #thumbs up smiley that BR lacks in it's sidebar#

I've just realised my £800 insurance is due and it might be time to try and get rid of the 407 for a diesel hatch... realistically I could get up to a Fabia VRS:

Not the dreamiest of cars but realistically... I could have one.

Lotus Exige. Lovely machine. I mean, it would be rude not to, what with having a racetrack only a few minutes up the road.

Leave the bike at home. Got a golf for carting that about. The exige would be for pi**ing about on the circuit.
