Ditchling Beacon is probably just well known amongst cyclists because its the bit in the London - Brighton charity ride where you spend most of the time avoiding people walking their BSOs up.

Both of your times look like they are l2b times, as you can't go much faster than 5mph anyway! But I reckon Ed would probably do that in half of your time, and would be KOM for ever and ever ;)

I didn't use strava when I did it, but would like to do it again outside of the l2b.

What is your best up Box? box is quite a good marker apparently according to people I have spoken to, if you can do it under 6 mins then the potential is clearly there (so I'm told)! I've not done it for about 4 months and am not anywhere near that yet :(

    Ask me again on Monday.....

p.s. No excuses but I do weigh 18 stone and getting up these hills, Ditchling particularly, is achievement enough for me.

I too can vouch for Ditchling being troublesome at 18+ stone.

There are only 12 people on Strava with a sub 6 min time...

Another gripe! Elevation data is all over the place. Just ran today's ride through Garmin connect and enabled elevation corrections - went from 2700 feet to a 4339. Deleted and posted the corrected data instead!

Yeh. There's loads of good riders that don't use strava. They far outweigh the good ones who do I would say. One lad did it in 5.15 on one of our club runs!

And the strava comment was in jest, didn't mean for you to take it so literally. I thought it was a sportive :)

    Interesting comments on Box Hill.

I spent 4 years in Sheffield, and the rest in North Notts, so used to big hills, which is one thing I seriously miss about the South & London. I have only riden Box Hill once, and I was expecting a long climb with some steep sections.

When I got to the top I was quite upset that it ended! Thought it was going to go on a lot longer! Next time I can hit it with speed!

Still a nice climb as others have said.

5 PRs tonight around Regents Park, felt good! There are some very quick times around there though, which is always a little upsetting

    Is Strava working as normal?

Put in a ride for tonight and it doesn't have the usual "2nd best time" etc on the Dashboard.
I was disappointed as felt good, but then drilled in and few PBs on segments, but nothing on the Dashboard.

    Wehay.

I'm currently the fastest guy for "today" on the A308 > Blackfriars (Embankment Drag) segement.

First time I'm #1 (even if it is for just today).

 @DDD try harder. From Colliers Wood to to Clapham South I beat you on every segment this morning, including Balham Hill. Colliers Wood to Oval (the real test on CS7) I beat you by 2.5 minutes! If your not careful I'll be asking for that your Power Awesome trademark gets transferred to me. There's no hiding on Strava!

Just loaded a ride and it automatically came up as a "stationary trainer" I then edited it and its now a ride as it should be but there is no mapping or segments but all the usual power/cadence/speed/altitude/hr are all there :?

Might try & delete and re-load it manually & see what happens...

    WTF!?

I don't like this, time was all you feared was that when you looked over your shoulder there was another cyclist bearing down upon you. Now you have to be faster than imaginary people and people you haven't met who only exist on the Internet. "The Ethernet has eyes!"

PLUS! I got personal records for Balham Hill, Clapham North to Oval, CS Oval to Kennington, CS Kennington to Ele&Castle and Oval to Castle drag race. And also London bridge Northbound.

Were you the guy on the Pearson, grey Giro helmet, blue Northface rucksack and blueish gillet? Because I dropped him a couple times.

So let me get this right. By my standards I had a pretty solid ride, decent scalp, personal bests, alright commuting speeds. I mean sure! Not the team captain but super domestique, surely? And before I've even got to bask in that special glow of 'I enjoyed that'. Someone had already taken me down before I even knew about it.

Oh it is so much this:
a2d56_its-on-like-donkey-kong_1.jpg You are on the Notsoblue list!
    Food Chain number = 4

A true scalp is not only overtaking someone but leaving them stopped at a set of lights. As you, who have clearly beaten the lights, pummels nothing but the open air ahead. ~ 'DondaddyD'. Player of the Unspoken Game
