Well I took Halfords up on their extra 10% off last Friday lunchtime and selected to pick up in store yesterday. Looked it all over when they wheeled it out and no obvious problems with the cracked paint. So I'm happy! I have been going back to look just because I'm paranoid :)
It's set up ok enough for a pootle round but it's booked in at a LBS to have them look it all over and do a proper set up, and to fit some TRP Spyres.

Excellent upgrade on the brakes. I did the same thing.

Sold the bb5's on eBay for £50 which helped with the upgrade cost.

    Guys,
For me now it is clear that it does make sense to upgrade from BB5s to TRP Spyres...
What about changing BB7s for them? Any noticeable difference?
    Thanks.

The spyres have no more 'power' than the bb7's (IMO) but the ease of setup and adjustment is second to none.

Also due to the dual piston the feel of the brake is better.

When you take into account the money you'd get for the bb7's on eBay it's not an expensive upgrade.

They look to be of a similar design to the Avids (ie Single sided actuator).

Not had any experience of them, but would suspect similar performance / set up system as the avids.

No different than the BB5's. Static adjustable inside pad with no easy adjustment for the outside pad (unlike the BB7's), small pads by the look of it and no CPS bolts to get perfect alignment with the rotors.

    Okay...
Then what about their Shimano counterparts?

Buy the way, will they work with Sram Fource Double Tap shifters? :?:

    Thanks.

I keep reading everywhere that BB7 is the best mechanical disk brake you can get and that the BB5 is second best and that nothing else is even close. I dont know this myself but that is what years of the interweb has led me to believe.

I have fitted the CD comp with BB5's are they are much much better than the Tonka Toys it comes with.

    Hi

Can anyone tell me the combined wheel weight on the cx team 2014 - not inc tyres etc.
  • Has anyone been successful in getting some touch up paint for the 2012/13 grey coloured CX Team?

I think its around 2100 grams. I was also thinking about getting the kinesis v3 wheel which is around 500 grand lighter mainly due to the aluminium hub, not sure how much of a difference it would make though.

For the relative prices of the Spyres and Hy Rd comparable to the rest I can't see any good reason not to plump for either.

I have the Hy Rd's on my Condor and they are superb. Way better than the BB7's they replaced. Easy to setup and plenty of power. The Spyres are, as I understand it, excellent.

For those of you who have the Kinesis CXDisc wheelset, a pair of Michelin Pro4 Endurance 25mm come up at 27.5mm, and the Schwalbe Ultremo ZC 28mm come up as 30mm.

Going on Weds - the BB went for the final time - spoke to Halfords who were very nice and said bring it in and we'll give you a new one! Amazing - a 2012 8 month old bike which has done over 2.5k miles and they px it for a brand new 2014 model - thanks very much.

Still debating on the size though, ordered another 55.5cm (large) but a niggling feeling that I should have gone smaller this time - I'm comfy enough on the large 2012 but some times it feels a stretch but sat on the 2014 today in a 55.5 and it felt smaller!
Im 5'11 and have an inside leg of 32.5" - any suggestions M or L

I have the 55.5 and I'm 6' - you can always change stem length if you need to rweak...

On the subject of bottom brackets, my 2nd one went on my current model CX Team, was all set to boot off but they replaced it there and then within 20 mins on a busy Saturday!

I'm pretty sure you should go for the road ones - after all you're using road levers :-)

    True about the older model.

Halfords still have three that i know of. One of them is in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Its a 'large' 2012/2013 model, but for some reason has the 2014 wheels on it, so good for a bit of haggling. SHould be able to get it for £550 after discounts.

How much do they have it up for sale at?
