Offset shock bushes fitted (Again) - this time with no issues.
Didn't get a pic before really apart form old photos.
Was about 66deg, now measures around 64deg (crude measurement with phone lol!)
Can't notice any difference in the pics tbh, but feels different sat on it.

Yeah it doesn't really look particularly slack in the photo (first one doesn't work for me)0

Yeah played about a bit, when dropping or jumping, the rear of the bike now seems to hang a bit an drop 1st before the front so its harder to land level, I'm hitting the rear wheel 1st.
More rebound needed, low speed rebound if you have separate adjustment.
Looking like a nice FR/Mini DH bike. Domains are a great choice, I had a set for a year, basic but they just work and they're bombproof. Maybe a set of Coil Totems might add a bit of sophistication to the damping. How does the bike cope with the high speed stuff at Cwmcarn?Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Sorry RMSC, didn't see your question!
The domain is great with the high speed stuff, I now run a lighter spring with a bit more compression damping so its 'just so'. Not too harsh, but not so soft that it feels like it eats up the travel on repetitive hits (unlike the Fox that just blew through no matter what!).
Also, riding it now I can tell a difference with the offset bushings.... I'm not sure I like it yet, need a few more rides! Feels good descending but climbing is a bit more difficult, harder to get over the front of the bike!
Had an issue with the rear wheel recently, there was a bit of play and I couldn't work out if it was a pivot, the wheel bearings or something else.
Turns out it was something else - the x12 skewer has a crack in it so I've bought the DT Swiss replacement.
One thing I've realised since riding the RL though, is that the Avid Elixir R brakes are terribad. They have no feel compared to the cheapo Deore 596's. I was tempted to swap them over!
Still looking for lighter tyres too. Just can't decide Can't seem to find anything that is making me want to remove the Minions!
Pic now its clean..

So, is the DT RWS much lighter than the regular syntace through bolt, or is it just easier to get on/off.
I had the same problem with Fox forks. Their short travel stuff is alright, but the longer forks I always found to be aimed more towards people under about 14st, which sadly isn't me. Over that, I find that they're impossible to set up right, either blowing through all the travel, or turning into a rigid fork.0 -
I don't know actually... maybe I should get my scales out lol.
Wasn't a weight saving exercise, like you said more convenience really! Plus, the Syntace needs a stupid rubber washer that perished in about a week and so kept coming undone... and I think i'd rounded the allen key too so wasn't going to last much longer!
The DT skewer isn't as tidy looking on the bike in all honesty though.0 -
Quick update as I've just prepped the bike for tomorrows uplift day..
- Bit of lube dripped down the fork stantions as they were becoming a bit dry, won't be long till I need to do a seal change I think.
- Changed the rear innertube to a beefier one. Was using an XC inner as it was the only spare I had when it went pop!
- Brakes cleaned and pistons re-set.
- Axles cleaned and lubed. Also stripped and cleaned my Maxle as I think the ratchet is wearing in the clamp bit.
- Lubed chain etc.
- Checked that all the bolts are tight.
- Added an upper chainstay protector using an old inner tube, do you think I should cable tie the other end?
Looking rather smart even if I do say so myself, really looking forward to tomorrow now!
Will need a bushing and bearing change soon I think, probably after this uplift tbh!0 -
Nice build buddy,
Ave you got a build thread for the lobster0 -
so nothing interesting then
and yeah, should probably cable tie that inner tube at the other end too.0 -
Tidy, very tidy.
and far too clean!0 -

+1
Wish i could say the same about my car though.0 -
ha! My car is a tip, cleaned it for the 1st time in 2 years not long ago (apart from the odd rain shower of course!)...0

New year plans..
Sell the RL... unfortunately the frame is just too small for me and I can get used to the XC angles.
So, money will be going onto the Canyon to lighten it up slightly.
So, 170mm Lyric RC2DH solo air's and either a DHX 5.0 air or Cane Creek DB air (havent decided yet) will be on its way to me in the new year.
Along with some lighter tyres.
Should be fun, fancy a few Gravity enduro's next year!0 -
Gravity Enduro's eh???? hope you like riding the Canyon uphill then.
you will have epic fun on the downs but the up's will hurt your soul, especially on a bike like that.
good luck to you anyways. when i get my 29er up and running im hopefully going to get the KHS a bit more gravity orientated, and would like to have another, proper, bash at the enduro thing.
Eastridge would be different next time now i know what to expect.2011 KHS Full Susser Carbon 29er Race BuildClank wrote:M'eh, I might just go back to zapping it with frikken lay-zur beeeems. And sharks.0 -
I don't find the Ups too hard if I'm honest.. Slow but steady... Canyon reckon their lighter Torque is 30lb, which would be nice..0
-
Get some lighter wheels as well if you want to do that, those SS DH wheels weigh a ton!
That said, I've found setting up a bike for that sort of thing tends to be a huge compromise for either downhill or XC, unless you don't mind swapping loads of parts over all the time... Too heavy and too much travel to do XC comfortably, and not plush/stable enough to do downhill properly either. That was my experience with my slayer anyway. Can't beat having a proper XC/AM bike and a proper downhill rig.0 -
yep thats on the list too..
Flows on switch with cx xray come in at about 1750g, pricey at £350 though!
Think my DH's are 2200g!
Any alternative wheelsets you can think of? Mavic crossmax SX seems light and good compatibility..0 -
Flows on some decent hub seem to be the best way to go tbh, they'd be my first port of call if i was looking for a decent wheelset. Finding somewhere that has them in stock is a different matter though...0
-
Flows on superstar teslas would be my choice, the mavics are nice, but expensive and spares are extortionate too. Can't go wrong with some Stans on a quality set of hubs.0
-
Very nice piece of kit.0

Anyone had experience with these? They seem pretty good value and pretty damn light...
(Edit: SS seem to have revised their weight estimations, the AM ones were about 1560, maybe not so good value now...)0 -

£350, unless I miss something, which means the teslas have to be pretty special hubs.
Personally, I'd go Hope Hoops Flow EX.0 -

So the tesla is lighter, has a faster pickup, they're cheaper and the spares are cheaper than a pro2...
hard choice? I think not!
EDIT: £319 with Tesla, Flow, Brass nips, and DB SAPIM race spokes. Tubeless conversion is another £12.0 -

What's the weight difference?0 -

What's the weight difference?
Not sure, Superstar weigh their hubs with a QR skewer.
But, If I was to go for Pro-2's I'd just get Superstar Switch hubs which are pretty much identical and £270 built to order.
The switch hubbed wheelset on flows is around 20g difference to the hope set if you go by the book figures, Tesla hubs are lighter.
I don't really like or trust anything from Hope to be honest with you, used superstar loads and have great praise for them so no reason to not buy from them.
Oh, and I need a Syntace 142x12mm rear axle so would need to buy the adapter from Hope.. another £20 or so.0 -
Hope have great customer service, and I've used their hubs for years with no problems. If I had to choose, I'd go for hope.0
-
agreed. if you can get on with the noise* from the hub im fairly sure they will be a sound bet. Very easy to service and seem to last a good while before needed any sort of maintanence what so ever.
* i loved the noise for the first 6 months, now when im pushing up a faerk off steep hill it annoys me bad ways!!!2011 KHS Full Susser Carbon 29er Race BuildClank wrote:M'eh, I might just go back to zapping it with frikken lay-zur beeeems. And sharks.0 -
Mine actually quite quiet, for some reason! Not as quiet as my superstar hubs, but still..0
