Basso coming in at 6'16 from Tony Martin. Only a couple of weeks to recover

LLS better, but at 3'38 not good for a course that should suit him

Tjalingii (after yesterday's break) and Cataldo (Giro-fatigue) also underperforming

That Niemiec has 10th time at the moment confirms it's very hilly

Eurosport now on.......the course looks pretty good-quite technical and lumpy.....very wet too.....Gesink coming to a virtual standstill on the descents. Martin fastest thus far.

Wiggins of in 15 minutes time.

Vino 1.21 down at first check. Wiggins looking good for the overall lead

Looking good for Wiggins, 21s down at first timecheck but times seem to be quicker in final third than earlier, also Sky (EBH, Thomas) both picked up speed in final third and may be laying down markers for Wiggo. A minute into Vino at first timecheck so pretty much guaranteed yellow, Thomas could take young rider's jersey.

That's why i don't think that Roche will ever be a serious GT contender.

MARTIN lucky to have it dry. Id bet Wiggins would have taken him if it was dry. May still even though.

Wig-go! This would be a big win. He's just maybe starting to justify his team leader status at long last.

Wiggins level with Martin at 2nd checkpoint apparently. Could have quite a good GC cushion by the end of the day.

I think he'll get dropped on the climbs to come but he should still finish high overall. Looking at the way he's ridden this Dauphine so far he seems to have his Olympic champion head on this week.

The Race is not over yet. Still some hard summit finishes to come.

I was talking about the stage not the overall - for all his minor placings, he hasn't won many big time trials (I can only really think of the Giro prologue). The Dauphine is a pretty big race. I wouldn't be surprised to see him ease off a bit in the days to come (especially if he were to lose yellow), if he wants to peak for the Tour then i think that would be a good idea. Which raises the question, Dauphine win or Tour top 10, which would be the better achievement?

As a cyclist, probably a Dauphine win but as a British leader for Team Sky he has to do well at the tour.

Looking at how much time the climbers are losing today, if Brad is in any sort of climbing form I don't see why he can't keep them off in the mountains
