Wiggins is definitely a proper stage racer this season.
Is he good enough for a GT?
I find him difficult to like for whatever reason, but he's definitely interesting - seeing someone learning the trade when the body is in its peak age range.
This was a big win - whether he'll be with the cluster of riders fighting it out for places 3-5 in the TdF or not. Much better this than a season like last year with everything on the TdF. And, some valuable UCI ranking points for GB.
I agree with you on liking him - interesting to see his development, interesting off the bike, but not the most interesting in a race to watch.0 -
As i said before great ride by wiggins...but he has a long way to go if he`s going to be called a decent stage racer.....and if your looking for bizarre stats did i not read some place that Chris Boardman was voted the best ever Tour De France Rider ???? FFS So Robert Millar`s & Barry Hoban`s rides were just shyte then. It`s a nonsense when you hear the rubbish that Armstrong was voted the best ever tour rider but they dont mention it was the only race he rode serious in apart from the odd dauphine or classic.0

Think he has proven that he can do stage racing. Of course he'll play to his strengths. Any long TT in a stage race and no doubt he'll be all over it. His climbing is good and he does need to be setup to maintain 1 pass.
I'm chuffed to bits he has won this race. Last 2 stages watching him hang on for dear life was great to watch. I'm really hoping to see him give it the full beans in the tour. Not fussed if he blows. But it'll be fantastic to get a top 10.0 -
Robert Millar's Dauphine assessment (plus a bit about Contador):

Frenchie's post is very interesting. Seeing Wiggo would have finished 4th in what was effectively a mountain race if the TT was taken out. OK, he probably rode harder to defend his lead but that's quite impressive for someone who isn't really a 'climber' up against some past GC winners and regular contenders. I still think he'll struggle at the Tour though especially if Bert goes attacking and drags some of the better climbing contenders with him (by struggle I mean struggle to match 2009).0
