Mine is running superb still 3 hrs around Swinley Sunday morning and not a creak out of it, it is so nice to ride in the twisty stuff.
I have the Ritchey foam grips on as well but what I would say is get some Hope bar plugs for them as I keep loosing the plastic cheap ones.0 -
Mine is still completely standard apart from a Salsa QR seatclamp.
I have however changed the rear tyre, purely becasue it was worn out!0 -
Nice ride at Cwmcarn today round the Twrch... glad the rain kept off!!

I think my BB bearings are on their way out again though
Fecking things0 -
So are you just going to replace the bearings again? I thought you'd put a decent set in? This and the paint finish is the only thing concerning me about the Boardman at the moment.0
-
My boardmans paint is immaculate! LOL.
I dunno, its going back to Halfords this time. I've just been to fiddle with the bike and the bearings are practically seized
Enduro bearings lasting a month? not sure about that one!0 -
Monkey please update us as soon as possible with this one as its a potential deal breaker. I would have suspected that a decent set of bearings should mean no problems. Did you fit them yourself?0

Nope, £28 and at a reputable bike shop.0 -
Definitely shouldnt be going then. Not accusing you of being ham fisted but bearings are a bitch to fit in any case!0

You guys happy with your bars? After trying out a few bikes for size, it seems that the Boardman bars are quite flat and narrow. I've been back to Bikehut this morning to have another sit on it, look at bits & bobs and generally stall for time until the next 10% off offer comes into play online.0
-
Fine by me!
Quite a bit shorter than the 750mm bars on my Canyon, but I wouldn't want any wider for xc!0 -

Don't let the width or rise of bars deter you from a bike, ever. You can pick up for 30 quid wider and higher rise bars, so it shouldn't even influence a decision.0 -
another set of BB bearings on a bike only 5-6 months old. not very good is it.
you got any thoughts to the reason behind it? if you've put a good quality SRAM compatible unit in then its not a quality issue so maybe its a set up problem?
are there spacers in the incorrect order/place, no spacers where there should be?
the reason we have alot of bearings fail at work is they are put under axial loading and it forces the 2 races to seperate.
have you had a look at yours to see how they are failing?2011 KHS Full Susser Carbon 29er Race BuildClank wrote:M'eh, I might just go back to zapping it with frikken lay-zur beeeems. And sharks.0 -
The bars are suppose to be reasonably narrow and flat it gives you a bit more of a racey positioning.Scott Spark 30 carbon custom build

I swapped my bars for Easton Monkeylite Xc carbon bars, no difference in length or sweep to the Boardman bars just half the weight and a lighter front end, there was nothing wrong with the Boardman bars though I still have them.0

Would anyone do me a big favour and measure the actual top tube length rather than the horizontal?0

Its a shame to hear about the boardman bearings, maybe the bike shop over tightened them??? i remember somone said they wear a lot quicker if overly tight.
out of interest though have you serviced the canyon yet? or you going to send it to their london based centre?
interested to hear how the canyons holding up.London2Brighton Challange 100k!

No idea, they are proper seized now... just off to halfords for a moan!
Replied to the comment about the Canyon on the my Canyon page lol.0 -
Apologies for thread hi-jacking, thought it was about the Boardman Pro, rather than Monkeys particular pro. Maybe I should notice where the search has directed me (your mountain bikes) rather than what the thread title says... :roll:0

If you've not seen it dudemrjerome10 wrote:i work at halford just to let you know. Don't use loctite it will void your warranty. And yes we have had 5 bikes come back. 3 road team carbon and 2 mtb pro and all boardman with the bb30. The problem is in the bb30 itself as far as we are aware well at my store. we have ordered new bb30 and there's an adapter which we have also ordered. all we are having to do is remove the bb30 and regrease them and tighten up to the recommended torque and that seems to be working. we are still waiting on the adapters to come in incase we have to use them on the boardman that we regreased the bb. so to sum up get your local halfords to remove the bb30 regrease them and torque them properly and that should hopefully be the end.

I bought a Boardman CX, the BB30 on that started creaking after 6 miles (!), took it back to Halfords and they regreased and retorqued it, it lasted another 50 miles (not even 2 commutes  ) before it died again. They've now put in new bearings, hopefully that'll fix it.0 -

let meknow how you get on... I gave up with my Halford (long sotry) so i'm going to pursue with the LBS that fixed it 1st time.
Strangely, mine has stopped creaking now :?0 -
Ive had the same problem, i took the chainset out put marine grease between the 2 surfaces. That with the proper torque and they really shouldnt squeek there isnt anything else that can. One thing dont over tighten thats whats killing the bbs mainly thats if they have actually been greased properly in the first place.Scott Spark 30 carbon custom build

Haven't been back here for a while!
Boardman is still going. The creak is still there, but its not getting any worse so I'm not bothered. Everything else is fine.
Edit: Just serviced the BB30, non drive side bearing is on its way out again. But they are now spinning free and creakless hehe!
Did a long ride on Sunday and the bike was very comfortable... still haven't changed a thing!!
Map from my route below, 2 maps because the Mrs called lol!
Hoping to do the Wentwood Enduro again next year, so trying to get some training in!0
