  • I think thats as much to do with me not liking the suspension bob as it was the weight tbh.

It did descend well, but wasn't for a DH track really.

Fair enough, i'm not hugely bothered about weight, my on one probably weighs a similar amount, under 30lb is fine for me. I didn't think it bobbed that badly, but I don't mind slogging uphill too much (as long as i'm not pedalling a downhill bike or something) if the bike is that much fun on the descents! My on one can be a pig to get uphill sometimes as well due to the single ring, sooo worth it though :D

Haha, to be honest I'm tempted to see how my patriot would cope round a trail centre (or how I would cope, I think the bike would be fine!!), but I think it would probably kill me haha.

  • a lad we ride with (oldstyle on here) rides an old patriot round the trails at cwmcarn with tc's and all the works.. must weigh 30+lb with no lockout or anything! . he puts me to shame thats for sure!

My old patriot with dual crowns was closer to the 40lb mark than 30! I'd be surprised if his is much different!

northern you ridden with me on my 36 pound bike when i wasn't that fit :p lol.

Seriously for sheeps the meta is spot on trail bike weight at 30 pounds i found it to light and flexy for me witha 32 fork up front need summat beefier.
But never noticed pedal bob on one Monkey just set it up right and get the pro pedal on for climbing but fair enough.

I honestly think most people totally mis estimate there bike wieghts people would be shocked! I weighed my old specilized the other day with 2.35 high rollers on it was 31pounds and it was quoted at 28... total crap the stated weights.

But Mr monkey glad you enjoyed riding the new toy because at the end of the day it's not speed or anything that matters other than do you enjoy riding that bike more than anything else.

Don't understand... i'm actually quicker over more of the trail as its 10x easier to get the power down! Its only the final descent that I felt slower.... I can get round Cwmcarn faster on the Boardman than the Meta!

Like I mentioned earlier... I can't sit down and pedal which is the only way you can eliminate the pedal bob completely.

I've ridden that sledge, I'm pretty sure his wheels alone weigh 30lb+ what a confidence inspiring machine though, I loved it, pushed me to get the CUBE tbh, thanks for the ride oldstyle 8) and yea he pedals that like hes on a HT, really laid back style to him.

I'm getting the Hands (Hands from now on) from The Bicycle Doctor in Porth Ben, no doubt your familiar. Typical I'm in Basildon for the next two weeks now, no doubt it'll turn up as soon as I get there :x

It's not that I'm over over biked, my bike is under personed...
  • Right chaps.. as i'm using old Slim Jim pedals with hardly any pins left, so i'm going to get some new Wellgo MG1's.

But do I get white or green? I'm thinking stick with white!

Thanks for that Halfords have them as SL on their site spec which I had on my 2010 Team, what is the difference if any between them.
  • No idea lol!

    RL is a 2011 fork and the SL a 2010 I think!

    Hi there

I got a pair of those pedals for my Boardman Pro, also bought from high on bikes, good price and fast delivery :)

Lighter than the standard ones that came off my bike, and much more grip too.

They look good but in my experience the paint comes off VERYeasily. My first trip out after fitting them was just along some towpaths, about 25 miles or so but nothing major just flat most of the way. I was surprised to find a fair bit of paint had already started to come off (was only wearing trainers, no contact with rocks/stones that I was aware off).

No big deal really, its to be expected I suppose! Good upgrade though, well worth it I think.

BTW nice bike you have there, its a bit different to mine, the 2011 models seem a bit more trail specific and the 2010 was more XC orientated I think. But both years models have been unbeatable for the money :) Enjoy !
  • Ahh well... less paint = less weight?

my grey ones sem to have lasted really really well but i suppose blemishes in the grey finish wont show up so bad as the mtal is grey anyway.

    are the white one painted?
  • yeah, looks quite thin (hence them being easy to rub the paint off I guess).

    Yes def painted

On mine you can see the matt grey colour of the magnesium where the paint has chipped off.

Im not knocking these in any way though - I would buy another pair when these have had it because imo they are good value for the price.

The Boardman is a nice bike, I can't believe I bought the Fury, the white Boardman appealed to me! I don't know what anyone thinks of my new bike but take a look! any advice on the posts is appreciated :)
