Did you try the loctite on the extracting bolt, did it sort the problem.0
-
Yup, made no difference!
Ita nit the extracting bolt, that stays tight whatever!0 -
Is it like a clicking noise as you pedal as mine has developed this as well and is hard to determine if it is my crank or my seat, clicking stops when I stand up.0
-
Def cranks. And yeah its clicking at 1st, will get louder if the crankset isn't removed and bearings/seals cleaned.
Massive pain in the rectum!0 -
Just taken the extractor crank arm off mine and added some loctite to the thread, see if it makes any difference.0
-
Ride today...
FECKING BB HAS GONE BACK TO CREAKING LIKE A BITCH! I only serviced it on monday!
Grrrrrrrrr. I'm really not happy with it. the rest of the bike is brilliant!
Oh but Cwmcarn has trashed my rear tyre
Its soooo lose up there so braking can be interesting, got big chunks of knobs missing!0 -
Have you taken the bearings out since you had it and re-fitted them, I have read it may be due to poor bearing fit. Read these links.

Yeah read all that... might take it LBS eventually!
Would hope they are fine from the factory though!0 -
Awesome, after a lot of persevering and refusing to have to take a bike to a bike shop, I think i've finally sussed the BB issues
Oh and the bike is still going strong, not changed a thing apart from a QR seat clamp.
2 months and 21 days owned, near as makes no difference 200km covered (all of road).
Rear tyre is looking worse for wear and the brake pads will need changing soon... will see how long they last!
Still no changes planned!0 -
What was the BB issue? Would be very interested to find out as I'm thinking of getting this bike though our Cycle2Work scheme.0
-
Its a BB30 bottom bracket, so (if you search on the net) its very prone to creaking and sounding like a £50 shopper.
Something had been working loose on every ride but I couldn't figure out what it was. Initially thought it was the bearings, but they seemed fine on closer inspection.
Basically, the drive side needs to be very very tight into the frame and the self extracting bolt needs to be done up as tight as a motherflipper.
(something I found wasn't done out of the box). The drive side is a biatch to move, but slowly works loose if everything is not pushed in properly before the self extracting bolt is done up.
I bought a hard rubber mallet and was giving the drive side an absolute beating to get it to move in a few mm. As mentioned elsewhere, its very very difficult to get the drive side in/out.
Apart from that, I still believe that the Boardman Pro can't be beaten for value for money. Its spot on for what I need and I'll hopefully keep it completely standard until it starts falling apart!0 -
Thanks a lot for the detailed description!
I still haven't decided if I'll sign up for the scheme or not but if I do this will be the bike I'll go for.0 -
Well done mine stopped creaking after I put some loctite around the extractor bolt and re-tightened.0
-
Ok have gone for this bike on the C2W scheme! Just waiting for everything to go through now.
I went for the large one. I'm 6' so hopefully that was the right choice.0 -
how are you finding it love the bike :P cant wait to get mine but is the 2x10 gears as good as they say? and anything that isnt that great or would change? thanksScott Spark 30 carbon custom build

2x10 has been brilliant for me. I'm used to 2x10 and the extra bit of range it great.... I never seem to struggle to find a "perfect" gear
The only thing i've changed (and the only thing I think you need to change until stuff wears out) is the seatclamp
It got a bit annoying having to use an allen key!
Bike is in the shop having the BB looked at as I still wasn't happy, but its only taken this long as I'm too stubborn to let anyone else look at it0 -
Update form the bike shop... the drive side bearing is shagged lol. Most likely due to riding through some axle deep water about a month ago, but at least its getting sorted!0
-
ah that sucks but if you dont ride hard dont ride at all right :P
thanks for the help think ill be going to get one of these in the next fue days as need to get use to it for the ride to aberdeen next month then have a go with it on the nevis range XD if i find any fault they shoud iron out in a month so they dont go wrong haha dont want it dieing over 400 miles from home now hahaScott Spark 30 carbon custom build

I'm seriously interested in upgrading my hardrock sport for one of these. Do halfords ever put them on sale or Is it rrp all year round?0

bonezy wrote:I went into a Halfords a few weeks ago for a look round while the Missus was in Next and they had a couple of Boardman HTs on sale, but they were ex-display. Still a bargain IMO. Guess you just have to be in the right place at the right time
What sort of prices were the ex display ones?0 -
bonezy wrote:Or what TNM said! Glad to hear it's getting sorted though, I try to avoid the LBS (Man pride allowing) but when there are niggling creaks and rattles, sometimes there is no option
Hehe it took me 3-4 weeks until I gave in
Had a ride last tuesday and just couldn't put up with the creaking so rolled back to the car! at that point i'd given in and decided it was going to the LBS hehe.0 -
Got the bike back today, the BB30 bearings were shiiiiiitttteeeee.... chap in the shop said they are very cheap/basic bearings as standard.
He was actually replacing the BB30 bearings on an almost brand new Boardman road bike when I walked in too!!
Not sporting some fancy enduro bearings, so we'll see how long they last!0 -
that sucks now that ive ordered mine expensive to replace/ fix the issue with better bearings?Scott Spark 30 carbon custom build

£28 supplied and fitted. To be fair (as I said somewhere in the thread) I rode through a LOT of axle deep "lakes" on a 35/40km ride which will have screwed them.
Can't fault the bike otherwise.0 -
ahhhh thats prob what killed it then even so shouldnt be that quick ! i had a kracken and its bb lasted 11,000 miles thats black routes every weekend lmao maybe you just got a bad one but your not the 1st person ive herd complainging about them, if mine goes it will be halfords fixing it got my local store round my little finger :P hahaScott Spark 30 carbon custom build

Yeah I was going to take it to the Halfords I got it, but I went in and spoke to the "bike expert" who asked me what a BB30 was :?
More than happy to pay £30 to have it changed by somewhere I have confidence in!0
