  • What size is this and how tall are you? Interested in one but they look small even the large. :/
  • 6ft 2 - 3... fits pretty much spot on. Go try one though, its the only way you'll know!

I've had my HT Pro for about 2 weeks now. Done a total of 25 miles in good weather so far, no rain or mud. It's a great bike but I can already feel the BB bearing crunch as I spin the cranks. It's quite loud as well.

Boardman must use some really cheap bearings on these bikes.

Does anyone know where I can order some good quality bearings for a BB30? I would take it back to Halfords but don't trust them as they couldn't even assemble the bike correctly in the first place.

Would be so much better if it used a normal external BB instead. This BB30 just seems quite pointless and prone to problems.
  • Yeah the BB30 is a bit of a pita.

Just search for FSA BB30 Bearings in google and loads pop up. I've got Enduro bearings in mine now which are soooooooo smooth. The standard bearings are the FSA ones.

I recommend taking the bike to someone that knows what they're doing and has the correct tools though. If done properly, the bearings *should* last, but its a bastard of a job becasue the tolerances are so tight.

Your not the only one I've done 10 miles since new and mine makes some massive cracks not only that the cap on the fork keeps coming of fixed a brand-new set if relatively high end forks with masking tape :/ not right is it really

On the way home from work today the bottom bracket completely broke down. Started sounding extremely loud, so loud that I had to get off and push the bike instead.

Left it at a bike shop on the way and told them to have a look at the BB and change the bearings.

Will report back when I know more. Not happy about this bike so far though.

Mmm.... I got mine about two weeks after Northern Monkey and was having problems with creaking, but what I discovered was that the crank extracting bolt was not done up tight enough from the factory, I whacked some threadlock on and re-tightened to the correct torque and it has been sweet since and was being hammered around Swinley on Sunday through some muddy conditions as well.

The factory bearings are cheap yes but also cheap to replace so not to fussed if they go on mine, will see how long mine last into the muddy part of the year.

okay ill torque tomorrow see if thats the case - see if it fixes anything but it doesnt seem that type of creak to me never the less worth a try right

Nice thread, i have pretty much suffered the same, BB30 is gash, mine never had a shield on one side, and had two on the other.

I replaced my BB30 bearings with some replacements from a bearing supplier on eBay (around £5 delivered) and my bike has not creaked since, and i have done around 400 or so miles on it ?

I also picked up some green anodised wheel skewers and a green QR seatclamp from eBay.

Could not resist these either tbh as one of mine rounded off when changing the brake discs (another cheap ass value engineered cutback).

    Green disc bolts :D

I went with these pedals though, they are a little narrow mind.

2011 Boardman Pro HT - SOLD! (low quality, expensive garbage)
  • I got this bike in may 2011 on the cycle to work scheme after having a felt Q720 for about 18 months and have to say I could have cried.......I sold the felt on ebay so there was no giong back...I put my trust in Boardman this bike has caused me nothing but problems from day one. The cheap Wellgo pedals broke the first time on bike, the brakes did nothing but sqeak and the bottom bracket did nothing but crak every time I put weight on it. so frustrated with this bike took it back to halfords 4 times without getting sorted the problems. spent 50 pounds on new pedals and in the end took it to a LOCAL bike shop who told me it will be the bottom braket needs greasing... we will do it .....did they hell do it, just charged me 20 pounds for the fun....still had the same problem....

RESULT........took the bike again back to Halfords Bromborough and spoke with a guy who seemed to know what he was talking about Chris. Told me it was the bottom bracket and in manufacture had not been greased enough...took the bracket apart and confirmed it to be (local bike shop what a joke £20). This did not solve problem as bearings had gone. On the 5/9/2011 collected a new bike from Halfords and bike is running like a dream (cross my fingers). There has also been a couple of changes to the bike rims are mavic 319, brakes are elixr 7, forks a reba 2012 and tyres the new mountain king....I have to say this because I feel that the guy at Halfords Chris went out of his way for me THANKS.....................HALFORDS YOU NEED MORE STAFF LIKE THIIS IT WOULD BETTER YOUR REPUTATION.
  • Went to Whinlatter yesterday... was a bloody wet ride!

Boardman was brilliant, made the climbs easy and the descents were fun as always!

Great views on the south loop too!

It's not that I'm over over biked, my bike is under personed...
  • Cheers fella, I think I might see if I can get it to go on the side of the helmet next time.. just to see if that works.. none of the bike in view, so I could have been walking lol!

Aye can't wait for the DH... going to try the goggle mount I think but i'll take the sticky mounts too just in case.
  • Where was it positioned when you took the initial footage then?

Been without my boardman for over a month now. The bike shop I handed it in to can't seem to find any bearings for it. All out of stock wherever they look.

I might just go and take it back to Halfords and demand them taking it back and give me a full refund and get a real bike.

i went into halfords handed £210 worth of parts over due to my bearings going and a just in case its damaged the chainset ect they gave me the parts. If thats not good service idk what is. Yes theres a problem found with those bearings halfords has agreed that there is but since putting new ones in there isnt a problem so i cant really see the issue bikes always come with problems or flaws just do to boardman selling so many, one batch of bad bearings has given the bike a bad name. Tbh you get what you pay, a well over spec'd bike with a fue teathing problems.

Have a look at an actual bearing shop they will probably stock better made ones anyway for a fraction of the price take of seals and fill with marine grease to make them last longer.

  • LOL I love it when people come on BR, have really low post counts, and just winge about a few weeks off the bike. They probably winge about waiting 5 minutes in line at McDs while ordering a BigFat or whatever it's called.

Bike looks cracking though mate, loving the green bolts you have popped on!

I think this thread has sold the Boardman to me. I've been toying over this with the Cube Ltd Race but seeing how well its going, considering you've got other metal in the garage is very positive. I had concerns that the frame would be the weakest link in the spec list but it sounds like its a great ride. Aside from the BB, which is a fairly straightforward fix (LBS wise as I havent got pullers), then it looks like the rest of it is just right. Liking the slacker angle too as it'll be great for trail centre stuff.

well putting it this way theres 3 parts of a ride which i go on regularly and i never was able to get up or down them due to the size of the drop and steepness of the slope. 1st ride on the boardman got me up and down all 3 1st time sooo i agree that its good at the trail center stuff

Yep the Boardman is perfect for trail center duties!

I've done a few epics on it as well and its stood up to all the natural riding I've ever done.

    Tis definitely a keeper.

ive got 2 or 3 tiny changes i think just because im sad lol. Im going to get some tubeless so i can run lower pressures since im really light. QR seat clamp for decents maybe even get one of those hydrauic ones not sure if thats OTT on a HT. richtey foam grips already have there amazing and such an improvement take those standard boardmans off and feel how hard they actually are OWCH! p.s. get some stickers for them ive got a relitively large FSA over front mech and large rockshox one (the one you get in the pack with the bike) on the down tube near the bottom getting rid of the bland parts makes it look a little more expensive. id upload a pic but no idea how on here haha.
