The second stage is underway. Looks tailor-made for the sprinters, the pink jersey could change shoulders of Cav wins.

All together right now but expect a move to go clear.

Omega's Sebastien Lang is up the road, solo it seems, with 4m20 lead. Useful for Adam Blythe.

I had a premonition last night that Adam Blythe would win a stage in this Giro

Long way to go, I almost feel sorry for Lang. He's now 10 minutes up but has to do the longest day in the race solo.

Sponsors will be pretty happy though.

Rest day for the pelton then.

But HTC will have to do a greater share of the work than if there were say six riders in the break. Not a particularly tough job though.

At 50kms in, Lang has 18 minutes.
That means the peloton have covered less than 40km.

was surprised to see Russell Downing 150-1 this morning.
He shouldn't win (cos of Cav) but as the sprinter from a top ten team he shouldn't be far away.

Live tracking and updates on http://videochat.gazzetta.it/index_giro.shtml don't seem to be working. Does anyone know of another site showing the rider positions live?

Wouldn't you just love RD to bag a stage though? He has worked so hard over the last few years to make it as a pro.

Lang must be a masochist or something. Why would you do this to yourself on day 1 of a brutal Giro?! 19 days to go, Seb!

I know there ain't much going on, on the road, but 5 ad breaks in half an hour, Eurosport?
    Come on.

Just over 40 Km to go and Lang still out front with around 4 minutes.

First mountain points come at 33Km so if Lang stays out in front he will take the Mountains jersey. He deserves it after a day off the front all alone.

@blazingsaddles - I think Eurosport are obliged to have a certain amount of advertising per hour. As a result, they cram them in in "less than interesting" moments so they don't have to cut from exciting action.

At least that was what was explained previously.

If I was S.L, I'd pull over, have an ice cream and wait for the peloton. Nutter.

Will there be the customary first-day mass pile-up in the final ~3km?

Lang takes the mountains jersey, time to drop back into the peloton.

Lang slows down, the bunch slows down. Lang goes slower, the bunch goes even slower. We'll have a trackstand of 200 riders in a minute.

Think he joins Harmon on Stage 3 or 4. I presume he is away with his team racing somewhere.

Kelly's team sponsor (An Post) also sponsors a series of sportives in Ireland - there is one on today in Sligo and Kelly is taking part
