Seems the usual culprits have gone off the boil this month or enthusiasm is waning - or is El Cap gonna upload his 1000 mile month on the 31st?!
not heard anything at all from El cap in a while, on FB, twitter, or here. Hope he's ok.

Mine has been lacking this month due to other commitments and injuries. Should be back, full steam ahead (for me  ) now though, touch wood.

I must admit it made me realise I'd not seen El Cap around these parts for a while!

Apparently he's fine - just been busy for a while.

The fastest mile is messed up, I'm winning with a 1 second mile....if I knew which workout it was I'd try to sort it. Is there anyway of looking?

Normally, yes, just click on the arrow before the time. However, your is so borked, that there's not enough arrow TO click on.

I honestly hadn't considered the possibility that it was a GPS f***up, I thought I was in the presence of greatness

Just had a look, and curiously, there doesn't seem to be the usual clumping of riders this month, there's just a gradual decline from El Cap downwards.

I'd not touched a bike for 10 days until yesterday, did just under 60 miles, but still got a stinking cold, I'm well out of it this month!

aye, I know what you mean.
I've mentioned before, I never took much interest in mileage before, but this challenge thing has opened my eyes and made me realise how much I actually ride!
I might even buy a basic Garmin edge soon, I'm liking this GPS tracking stuff.

Not a great month for me this month, a little under half of my average total miles done. Mostly due to starting the new job and just not having any spare time to get out during the week. Hopefully things will have settled down a little by next month so I can get back on it. Need to get some training in for the End 2 End too.

Aaaaaaaaaanyay..... Invites now sent out for Aug Challenges.

I am doing the warp speed challenge this month, but I don't think I'll bother in future. Given the results we get, it seems a bit pointless.

Why not make it 5 miles, or 10? Should avoid the 'glitches', although admittedly will almost certainly favour a roadie!

Nah, won't help (in my experience). What seems to happen is that the GPS signal jumps huge distances for a measurement or two. So you would have covered 10 miles in a split second, makes no difference.

I've had a few of mine jump 40-odd miles astray, then jump back again, that would have given me the fastest time over 80 miles, see.

It wouldn't though would it? (avoid the glitches I mean)

If it says you travel 1 mile in 1 second. All the surrounding miles will be skewed by that 1 false reading when you take it as an average.

Yes, it really is addictive! :) Sometimes I find myself taking the longer route just to add a couple more miles, so it "looks good" on Endomondo.
I also enjoy getting "lost" in the "middle of nowhere" exploring new trails and then returning home and realize that I was just around the corner from a village or some well known major road. :)

I really love my Edge 800 but it has glitches like all the others (last month's fastest mile challenge: 1second).
It's still my favourite Edge because it's got maps and is fairly small and thin compared to the Dakota or Oregon. Altough some might prefer Dakota's "rugedness", versatility and replaceable batteries.

Here's a thought for a new challenge, how about a "More calories burned" challenge?

I don't think it requires a cardiac monitor since it estimates from such data as weight, age, speed, sport type and altimetry variation (I think!).

It works off distance and bodyweight.

The reason I'm tempted to buy an edge 500 is because endomondo will kill the battery on a smartphone in less than a day.
I've toyed with the idea of getting a maps-enabled GPS device for exploring, but they are sooooo expensive.

    Oh yeah

Don't get me started on the calorie consumption figures

RE: Calorie consumption... do you reckon its too high or too low? mine comes across as fairly consistent, but wether its correct or not.... lol.

Mine is also consistent but Endomondo values are consistently the double of Garmin Connect ones! (true story)

Mountain biking, Cycling sport and cycling transport all give massively different readings too.

So on the roadie out for a ride it'll be 700 calories, a ride of the same climb/descent/distance/speed that happens to end at work becomes 'transport' and the calories go up to 1000+ :?

That's because a road bike is a very efficient high speed machine, which takes little energy to get it moving, whereas the "transport" setting is more along the lines of a city cruiser bike, used to commute - heavier, fatter tyres, and harder work.

Yes, but I'm doing it on the same bike

Well that's you mis-interpreting it then. The reason I give is precisely why they have different calorific estimates.

Don't worry, I know why it's different, and knew what you were saying. I was just pointing out that the calorie thing can't be particularly accurate, as one man's 'cycling transport' would be another man's 'cycling sport', so who's to say which one is right.
