Stage 1, prologue of 2km

http://www.letour.fr/2011/TQA/LIVE/us/0/

Yesterday Yoann Offredo of FDJ crashed whilst slipstreaming a truck at 55mph. He lost consciousness but may well be ok to race given he has no injuries apart from road rash.

Course includes 'cobbles' : )

Dowsett said he wants to bag the prologue.

He wasn't even going flat out.

Poor old Cav's having a hard time this year. Thats 3 or 4 offs in 7 starts. Better to get them out the way this time of year i suppose and without serious injury.

12 min video now up - including Cavs new "Lounge Lizard" facial hair - its like Terry Thomas meets "V for Vendetta".

What a poxy parcours- I've seen better courses at village crits.

  • Was this course 2km or over? Assuming 2km, top speed is a paltry 23.7 mph average. Unless the winds were horrendous.

Just saw a link saying 2.5km : that would make just under 30mph which is seems much more reasonable.

That course was awful, cobble, speed humps and cones to show the way. For pro level you would expect a bit better.

  • Feel sorry for Cavendish - his body is having some beating.

Will mean that he can't go against Boonen and co in the sprints just like he couldn't go against Griepel and co.

It's just all part of Cav's master plan. Take a few knocks and people think he is in bad shape, losing out on training because of injuries and then watch him spring back at the the tour and take green

    I'm sure this wasn't plan A.

I'm not sure cycling on sandy cobbles would be my idea of fun, it looked slippery. Do you reckon Cav's just trying to get into peak form for another crack at Milan - San Remo?

Poor lamb- the parcours looked frightening, it sounded so windy and the spectators were......missing.
Hope he's better soon- he must have fancied his chances on the prologue.

    Yeez, hadn't seen this yet - check Flecha's finish! And a fast time too http://www.sporza.be/cm/sporza/videozon ... n/1.958069
  • Suppose Boom winning makes sense on a technical course. He's a fast guy and the cyclo-cross he's been doing over the winter means his bike handling skills are good at the moment i suppose

Seeing how technical it is I would suggest that 23mph is bloody quick!
