Looking good at the moment for the urn to stay in Marylebone. A declaration quite early tonight/tomorrow then bowl them out for 200 max?
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

See the obnoxious little pricky ponting is true to form. Whinging australians
It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.
  • What a great day, 10 man Spurs get 3 points away, England have the Ausbos on the rack & Punter losses it. Surprised he didn't cry after Johnson's no ball
  • Staying extremely quiet, but don't think we'll be claiming the ashes back!!!

  • I feel like a little child who can't wait for Christmas to arrive - Ponting and Hussey are out and the Aussies are still 277 runs behind. Must not count my chickens, must not count my chickens....

5 green baggies, backs against the wall,
And if one green baggy should accidentally fall,
There'll be 4 green baggies, backs against the wall...

How one eyed are the aussies! Just watching the highlights with channel 9 commentary and when bad loser ponting came out out to bat with the crowd loud booing him the one eyed commentary team claiming a magnificent reception for him! FFS.

Gutted Ricky Pontin's not going to be captain for the next test. He's been our best captain for a generation&i'm worried how we will cope without him.

Never thought of him as a great Skipper, throwing the ball to warne or mcgrath was never a Master Stroke. A great Batsman whose runs you will miss? Definitely yes.

A great captain for us,England. He's won us three out of the last four Ashes.
  • Anyone else staying up to see the Ausbos last stand tonight?
  • Yes, I will. I've ordered some Khawaja and some Beer, I thought I'd make a meal of it. Just waiting for the deliveries...
  • What's khawaja then? Wallaby burgers or kangaroo kebabs? Or some other Aussie thing that will be cooked by the end of play?

Apparently it's a spicy Pakistan dish hurriedly put on the menu to replace the Ponting duck. I gather the dish is traditionally finished off with a few fresh cherries and then we get stuck into the Beer. Sounds like a recipe to me

I'm watching and thinking draw even though it's early days. Would like to see us be ruthless though and hammer them again.
  • Wasn't too disappointed to lose the toss when they chose to bat. Good conditions, got them hoping about, Hughes is a walking wicket. Just need a bit of luck.

The newboy looks a little too good for my liking. A bit like Trott on his debut.

  • Quick break, could unsettle the batsman.
  • Oops, the beer took over so I missed most of the day's play. With rain and bad light affecting play, giving England bowlers time to rest and making Australia have to repeatedly reopen the innings, 134 for 4 looks slightly under par. But it's still a good position to be in.

As verylonglegs says, this looks like it could end up a draw - the weather forecast looks like there'll be more stoppages to come.
  • Spoke to my cousin yesterday, he's working at the SCG for this test, and asked what the feeling was amongst the Aussies over there. Generally a feeling of respect for England on a good performance. Australia are obviously very under par at the moment, and were never in a position to win the Ashes this series. They'll recover and regroup and new players will come through, but it'll take time for them to bed into the team.
Well done England on a good, consistent performance.

  • Fair enough, Gregster, the Aussie commentators that I've heard and seen so far have been pretty fair and good-humoured about how England have been playing - almost glad to see a bit of fight and competence from us (for a change) together with some sadness that it's not Australia dictating the terms. For many of us, we've been under the cosh for so long that it's going to take a while to fully digest this change in fortune. I keep on having to ask myself: ''Is England really playing decent cricket?'' And for about a year-and-a-half I have to answer ''yes, they are.'' And it still surprises me...

I hear noises coming out of the England squad about their ambition to become the number one team in the world. Personally, I don't care about being them/us becoming the best, however, I do really enjoy being able to appreciate seeing my home team putting up a competent and competitive performance. I know I didn't lift a finger personally so maybe I have no right to enjoy sharing the glory. On the other hand, maybe I do have a right because I've spend several decades feeling the pain.
  • Am not celebrating yet, if there is one team that can turn a possible 3 1 win into a 2 2 draw in one session its us

You will have to forgive us for the ribbing you will suffer Greg. We have waited a while to be in this position.
