Well, the showdances are a waste of 4.5 mins of everyone's lives, I think we can agree. Len's point was well made - why spend 12 weeks learning rithm, err, rhythn, err, rhithyym errm, "keeping in time with the music" and flow just to discard it for the showdance ?
As ever James did the biz there, choreographing to suit Pammy perfectly and thereby, I thought, creating the most satisfying show-waste-of-time.
Overall though, Kara and Artem stormed it. The Rumba in the final was fantastic and for aesthetic pleasure levels, their Rumba and American Smooth probably came first and second across the series as a whole.
They also managed to get the "best" story placed alongside the dance and that was how they neutralised Matt's "Cheeky Chappy" bonus. So kudos to Artem for design* and their agent for PR. Job well done !
*I reckon Artem had the easiest job from the choreo point of view, cos Kara is so good, he only had to tone it down a little. James, on the other hand, had to go back to basics and their 3x40 proves he spotted that precisely.0 -
Just about the right result I'd say. I wasn't a big fan of Artem and Kara but they were probably just about the best dancers.0

Also, bear in mind that they must have been incredibly dehydrated after all that crying!0 -
Not vehemently anti-Kara at all, Ruth, on the contrary she's an excellent dancer and is babelicious. But I find her a tad annoying don't know why. Similar to last year I found Ricky Whittle annoying, hard to say why. Both lovely people I'm sure.
It's So You Think You Can Dance soon after new year.0 -
Ditto. I think it is partly their partners though. Artem seemed a bit grumpy and Natalie with Ricky Whittle seems a bit of a cow for some reason.0

I don't know that Matt was really doing a "Cheeky Chappy" act - he seemed possibly the most deadly serious of the whole lot to me and I thought his face was very revealing as the judges criticised him. He looked like he was ready to burst into tears - and he wouldn't do his piece to the camera because he was too gutted after they'd left the studio just after their disastrous dance in the semi-final.
Andy - I found Pamela a tad annoying in perhaps the same way as you found Kara annoying. I didn't really think much of the humour going on between her and James in their rehearsal room either - maybe just play-acting for the camera but it all seemed a bit childish.
Not sure I'm up for "So You Think You Can Dance?" What I need is a good long-running costume drama next. Are the Tudors due back at some point? Jonathan Rhys-Myers hasn't lopped off Katherine Howard's head yet I don't think?

Yes we need bonnets! Cranford would be fine, of course, even a Xmas special of Lark Rise would tide me over.0

The sequel to Upstairs Downstairs starts soon (Boxing Day I think). I believe it's only 3 episodes though and set in the 30s.0

Maybe that's me being cynical then - I just have the slight air of the "holiday romance" and its PR value is unquestionable. Kara also may have a bit of a habit of falling for her leading man.
I think after a while the way his teeth are so bright that they dazzle her and make her do that "my eyes disappear when I smile" look could get a bit wearing.0 -
I actually believe Pamela and James were robbed! As the judges scores didn't matter in the final, it was just a popularity contest. This means the dancing was irrelevant and a complete waste of time. Pamela and James were the only couple to get 40, and they did it 3 times! I'm not sure why the final should be any different from every other week.
Bah!

+1
Artem will have another partner next year. Kara, may only find fame as the SCD 2010 winner? (As mentioned before, I don't really know who she is).
Kara was the best dancer, by a long way. So close to professional, I couldn't relate to her and her 'journey', did she improve :?: or was she excellent all the way through. Whereas the 'fish out of water brigade' were much more interesting. Made for a very dull final IMHO. Might as well watch a professional championship (never televised? Probably too technical and boring for the average viewer  ).0 -
Kara improved a bit - mainly confidence related and just sheer practice, but she came in pretty good. She'd also won the one-off Sports Relief Strictly in 2008 with Rampers. The standard's much lower for that of course, but clearly not a numpty at that stage.
The final tend to be dull for a couple of reasons:
- the show dances
- repeating stuff. It never has the impact second time.0 -
Brucie has to go, he gives me the gibbering $hits.0
