That's a bold statement Mr Chasey!

Indeed it is - Matt's only weakness is his partner, who doesn't always pick the best routines for him....

But she looks great (just wish she'd go with her natural hair colour).

None of the rest will have their natural hair colour - Ann Widdicombe excepted. Must admit Aliona's hair is a bit striking though.

As I know nothing about dancing I can't work out whether you know what you're talking about or you're just a confident bluffer. Which routines were not right for Matt and what should have been choreographed for him which would have been better?

Lucky for us then that the expert geezer from that Uni who was on Take 2 was agreeing with just that line - "Make the routines more challenging, Aliona !"

And we can now say "Yeah - wot 'e said"

Well if Rick doesn't come back and tell me, very convincingly, just why Aliona is letting Matt down with the choice of routines, I'll know he's all hot air. SURELY that Charleston he did with her the other week where he threw her onto his shoulders and then proceeded to do Charleston steps with her up there was a pretty tricky manoeuver? Seems to me that only Kara and Artem are matching him and Aliona for stunning lifts?

Well, having got home and watched my first 'Strictly' tonight, all I can say is...
Somebody shoot Widdicombe!... Jesus Christ, that was painful.... An absolute mess. I wont be doing that again.

It is not every day that Ann Widdicombe flashes her knickers on national tele. I do not think she will be out this week and I predict another couple of weeks in the programme for her as I think the public are getting tired of the boringness of reality TV shows. Keeping her in the show despite being unable to dance is a wonderful example of f**k you to the pomposity of the programme.

Thanks, but no need for the reminder

I've just caught up in i-player. Had to avoid this thread for a few days in case it contained a spoiler!

Geez, Ann was worse than awful. Why do all the other judges except Craig give her such high marks?

I thought Pamela did a very strong performance. I think she's up there in the top 4 with Kara, Matt and Scott.

Henson is still totally boring and totally emotionless. I wish they'd boot him off.

Because Craig is cool and the others are not.

Gav was bad this week, a shame as I thought he was starting to turn the corner. Hope he stays in as his dance partner is my favourite now that Ola and Kristina are out. Thought Scott was awful and got over marked by everyone other than Craig, even I could see his hips weren't moving and I know nothing about dancing even after all these series (other than the hands should make a reindeer shape  ).
  • Gavallah!................ah the classic Welsh under-achiever!

Sneaky flashes of a 'tidy' hoofer, but just hasn't quite got his act together
I hope he stays a while longer, too. The will he/won't he perform adds interest.

    Pamela did very well
    Scott no wiggle
    Matt 'polished'
Kara, very professional, but wrong dance, apparently
    Patsy, meh!
    Flic, gracefully walked
    AW as in AWful!

Patsy, or Gav next? Or time for another shock exit?

You see, I already know more than Aleeeeeeeeeeesha

This thread has proved that the attraction of Strictly is a subtle one - but for me the Matt Samba captured it perfectly.

The crowd enthusiasm and engagement communicated the joie de vivre that is Strictly at its best.

Great job by Pammy also. Not worth 2x10 of course, but that's the differential marking problem that everyone but Craig has.

Couldn't bear to watch Anne, so now taking to going to put he kettle on when she's on - that takes a good 90 secs+ so I'm saved the embarassment.
  • Artem's dancing through the pain barrier was as impressive as Phillipe Gilbert blasting through the frozen rain in shorts to win a Classic.

Ann'e going to devalue Strictly if they're not careful.

    Indeed.

I find it interesting to muse over all the things they don't tell us about the celebs - there's a very clear message and agenda (propaganda?) that we're given during a series like this and that's as interesting as the dancing. For instance the celebs all wax lyrical about how much fun they're having and I wonder how much of that is absolutely genuine and how much is hyped up by the production team. What I'd love to know is the truth about how much formal dance training these guys have had before - I bet Kara has had a fair amount of proper tuition in the past, but interestingly they never ever question her about it or allow it to be suggested that she might be at an advantage. They also don't really make much of the physical demands on the celebs - for instance you never really hear a celeb saying "I'm completely shattered and every limb aches" although they do have plenty of fun shots of them collapsing in a heap in training.
Ann'e going to devalue Strictly if they're not careful.
Is she, though? If the public are voting for her, then clearly in the public's eye she is not devaluing the show at all - she is who they want to see and so she is the one who keeps staying in......... You're making an assumption about how a show like this should be valued and you're obviously looking at it differently from many of the voting public.

Matt has apparently done a bit of performing arts before in addition to be quite a high level gymnast yet they portray him as some yokel who has just stumbled off the farm. I think it is why we see the likes of Eastenders actors starting so well whereas sports people are usually not great to start but given a chance they often improve to be among the best.

They've reported Scott as being flaked out t the point of ducking out of Take 2

Strictly Post-modernism. No right or wrong, just public opinion.

I alluded to this earlier in the thread, based on the fact that the 'celebrities' that I had not heard of seem to be the best dancers. To me, Kara is a ringer, Scott and maybe Matt also.
Proper 'famous' people in the series have been too busy with their own careers to be dancing to the same standard from week 1.

In the past, sportsmen and women have also done well - Austin Healy, Mark Ramprakash, Matt Dawson, Darren Gough, Denise Lewis etc.

Hardly surprising that people who are used to being coached and developing physical control (so that's peeps in showbiz and sports) take to it well and can take the pace.

    Not all sports people...

    The long/tripple jumper ( I forget which) wasn't special -

    Calzaghe was particularly poor.

And that England goalie was rubbish as well.

Yes, Calzaghe was a surprise failure - as you would have thought he had highly developed balance and coordination, whereas Darren Gough was the surprise success, cos he was never even the most elegant of cricketers.

Joe was probably too busy bonking Kristina - allegedly.

Really? Now, you see, all you guys have a whole wealth of background knowledge about this show........... I've missed out on all this by watching it for the first time this year.

Can't believe some of the celebs and pros are willing to take the cameras round the inside of their homes - I think television cameras in your marital bedroom is a step too far! There we go, shows what a straight-laced British girl I am.......... doesn't seem very 'Auntie Beeb' to me somehow, though either. Guess I'll have to add that to the poorly pronounciating presenters on the list of declining standards. Whereas I like Claudia's personality much more than Tess's she doesn't half mumble too - why can't she speak CLEARLY! Grr!

  • Pamela'swas my favourite dance tonight.I have a bad feeling about Matt, he's great and I want him to win but ... I got a bad feeling.

    Claudia rules.

Marking by the judges was shocking again this week. Scott was terrible and yet got 9 off two judges whilst Matt, though not perfect, was far better and got 8 off them and some negative comments. Gavin was terrible and lucky to stay in but I hope it's the boot up the backside he needs (not cos I want a Welshman to win but because Katya is the best looking dancer left!).

In previous series, the judges chose between the bottom two. Hence they could protect their favourites from accidental elimination (unless there were 2 faves there of course)

Now they can't, so what we saw was them trying to make sure that Scott didn't get eliminated by mistake.
