Scott was terrible and yet got 9 off two judges whilst Matt, though not perfect, was far better and got 8 off them and some negative comments. Gavin was terrible and lucky to stay in but I hope it's the boot up the backside he needs (not cos I want a Welshman to win but because Katya is the best looking dancer left!).
Feel sorry for Scott - he has real flashes of brilliance - I thought his jive was the dance of the series so far.
Time for Gavin and Ann to go and leave us with the 4 who can really dance to fight it out.

Wasn't it a Charleston?0 -
Charleston - aye. I think they are giving Pammy a handicap for age allowance. And for 61 it is pretty good.0
-
All of the scoring, whether by the judges or by the Great British Public, is subjective; and like any kind of artistry, it depends on the viewer as much as the performer. So when Craig gives a 6 when the others give 9s then it's not wrong or inconsistent, it's just a reflection of how the judges felt about the dance at the time they scored it. Having 4 judges should in theory even out the scoring as a whole.0
-
Alisha even admitted to over-scoring Scott after seeing it again (Craig also said he should have given it a 4 rather than a 6).0

Have to admit Scott is looking pretty haggard and unwell whenever they catch him without make-up - I think the poor guy needs a break!

Ann'e going to devalue Strictly if they're not careful.
Is she, though? If the public are voting for her, then clearly in the public's eye she is not devaluing the show at all - she is who they want to see and so she is the one who keeps staying in......... You're making an assumption about how a show like this should be valued and you're obviously looking at it differently from many of the voting public.

Strictly Post-modernism. No right or wrong, just public opinion. What I'd love to know is the truth about how much formal dance training these guys have had before - I bet Kara has had a fair amount of proper tuition in the past, but interestingly they never ever question her about it or allow it to be suggested that she might be at an advantage
I alluded to this earlier in the thread, based on the fact that the 'celebrities' that I had not heard of seem to be the best dancers. To me, Kara is a ringer, Scott and maybe Matt also.
Proper 'famous' people in the series have been too busy with their own careers to be dancing to the same standard from week 1.
Matt has been fairly busy doing the one show as well as countryfile. Then again he does have a history in dancing from the late nineties in a stage show. He also did some gymnastics which explains his gymnastics in the samba.
I thought that Michelle Williams would have done a bit better coming from Destiny's Child and therefore having a musical background. No idea what dance routines they had but you would have thought she would have done a bit better. Patsy Kensit was in the band Eighth Wonder when she was younger so i thought she might have done better but then again the only video i have seen of that time sees her posing and strutting more than dancing....
The competition is a bit unfair in that not everyone comes from the same background but there we go - life isnt fair.0 -

It's illustrative of how poor and easy the dances were with destiny's child. It's just a lot of strutting and thigh shaking.
Strictly shows how demanding proper dancing is, as opposed to flashy showmanship.
Having said that, Beyonce is an excellent dancer, but she's played on that much more in her solo stuff...0 -
The American version is worse - this year was won by the girl who was in Dirty Dancing and Nicole Scherzinger is a past winner despite being from a dance background!0

Hardly surprising that people who are used to being coached and developing physical control (so that's peeps in showbiz and sports) take to it well and can take the pace.
Not all sports people...
The long/tripple jumper ( I forget which) wasn't special -
Calzaghe was particularly poor.
And that England goalie was rubbish as well.
I think one thing in favour of rugby players, well backs anyway, is that they have to fast feet and be able to change direction quickly. Mark Ramprakash always looked good in the field when playing cricket. I remember a Test Match Special commentator remarking on how fluid his body movements looked, although being in the same team as Angus Fraser might make anyone look good. Maybe triple jumpers suffer from only having to be good at running in a straight line, slamming your foot down for take off and then getting the air phase correct. Heptathletes need to have a bigger range of physical skills, maybe that explains Denise?
It was a surprise to me that Darren Gough did well but that was before i got into dancing. Shilts didnt do well but then Peter Schmeichel didnt either.0 -

Darren Gough was not a deserving winner of series 3.
Colin Jackson and Zoe Ball were far superior dancers but less popular with the "public".

Time for AW to eff off now. I suspect Gavin will be booted out this week though. I didn't rate his dance but the judges liked it.0
-
Over-generous 4x10 for Pam IMHO.......but it is her birthday
Anyway, the truth is out there
0 -
Widdy gone - the right week as no potential winners have been cut.
The old bat is forgiven. For strictly anyway, if not so much the "chain pregnant prisoners to their beds" bit.0 -

I'm so very happy that she's gone. My air punch was through the roof.

And now we can get on with the game.
Looks to me like Scott's done for unless he get's killed off in Eastenders pronto, which means I suppose the favourites for the final are now Matt, Kara and Pammy.
The final is a straight popularity contest, of course. Matt, I noticed, got a particularly warm welcome in Blackpool and he's a very pleasant fellow. is that enough to take it ?0 -

Worked for Chris last year.0 -
I was really cheesed off to be told the result on the Radio 4 news at 10pm on Sunday night - having not yet caught up with Saturday night's show on i-player let alone Sunday's results show. Geez, you'd think Radio 4 would have something more important to announce than Widdicombe being voted off SCD!
Anyway, I quite agree that Pamela was overmarked and Gavin too. His routine wasn't that good. Was it just me or did there not actually seem to be much in Pamela and Jame's routine? - it might have been nicely done but was it actually all that hard? Compare that with some of the things Kara and Matt have been doing and it didn't look all that fabulous............ to me anyway.
What happens from here on? Do two get knocked out next week? I definitely want Kara, Matt and Scott left as the top 3 so I'm afraid Pamela has to go along with Henson (who should have gone long ago..............)
At least AW's gone - HURRAH!
Ruth
ps. Tess still really really annoying me............. I can't believe the Beeb will let someone with so little talent, charisma, personality and ABILITY TO SPEAK CLEARLY do such an important role on prime-time TV. Just does not add up - and it bothers me........... as I expect you can tell. I think it bothers me because it means the BBC is dispensing with a basic standard in clarity of speech which I would never have thought they would give up and that makes me think I must be so far behind the times and ............. basically........... old............0 -
I usually FFwd past the Tess & Brucie bits.
Kara, Matt, then Scott = Pamela, then GavH in dancing order.
But......................on public vote, who knows?
Gut feeling:-
Pam more popular than Kara
Matt preferred to Scott
Gav has been well supported, and now has the 'under-dog' factor in his favour.
There are a mass of ex-Widdy voters out there, who is going to benefit?
Fascinating :?0 -

... and relax
Well, I can watch next week's show with equanimity - I think you can make a case for any of the finalists.
Although I note that all the women in my house will be voting for a fella.0 -
Agreed, the best 3 are in the final. I reckon Matt will win, he's not the best but I reckon he'll win.0

Really sorry to see Scott go. His jive was the dance of the competition up to this point as far as I'm concerned.

The last two will be Kara and Pam, and I think Kara will edge it.Tail end Charlie
The above post may contain traces of sarcasm or/and bullsh*t.0 -
Agree with all that really. Kara is spectacularly good but does make mistakes (which doesn't matter any more), she also has the love interest story in her favour.
Pammy has done the most incredible job of the 3 in terms of progress and fantastic execution - so must be down to get the grey vote. Their dancing hasn't been the most spectacular, which is appropriate for a woman of her advancing years, of course, but James has done a brilliant job with the choreography - hard enough to be well up to the standard required coupled with perfect execution. He gave the judges no option but to give them the 40's.
Matt is the archetypal cheeky chappy, and he can of course backflip without constraint next week. Cheeky Chappiness has been a key winning criteria in the past. Certainly all the females in Chez SloBoy registered for Matt this weekend past.
It's been a fabulous series this year - I'd say perhaps the best. Scott's Jive has indeed been the dance of the series and you have to feel for Natalie that they couldn't keep up with the pace.0 -
The best 3 are in the final, although I thought it was looking shaky for Matt. My money was on Gavin and Scott to go on Saturday.
Whilst Kara should be the favourite, a young lady with a good partner, there's always been a few mistakes and whilst she's got 39 a couple of times, she's yet to get the 10 from Craig.
Pamela has been the dark horse and she's my favourite, based on what's she's been able to do, and her partner has always got the best out of her. She's the only dancer to get 40, and she's done it twice.
Matt has a hard job as the 2 ladies are extremely good. His problem, in my view, has been his partner. She's tried to do too much and whilst Matt has done what she's asked, it's been too much. He's been consistent, so it depends on his popularity with the female voters.
What's very important is which dances have to be performed. Certain dances are easier than others to get a high score, so a 38 is needed for each and anything less than a 36 is a disaster (darling).
Cheers,
Dunedin0 -
Right person won in my opinion. Kara is fantastic. Pamela did very well given her age though. Matt was very good but just seemed to lack that extra something, whether that was down to his partner or not i dont know - the showdance didnt help though, seemed to be a few random pauses in there.0
-
I suspect a lot of people voted for Artem, who is great. Kara's kind of annoying and their showdance was the worst thing I've ever seen. I mean really, if I had had some lime nearby i would have burned my eyes out with it. Kara was so bad in it too. So yes I'm glad they won cos of Artem. He doesn't mince or wriggle in the latin dances, he has a rare gift.0

I agree with Cumulonimbus - Kara deserved to win and Artem's choreography was absolutely stunning throughout (except for the showdance).
Ah well, that's that then. What am I going to watch on i-player every evening before bed now?!
