Ah you saw through me...yes I am a snob, though to be fair it's not hard to look down your nose at, especially twelfty series in.

Having said that, can however many million people who watch a delusional projection of their own neuroses into a TV box devoid of space and time be wrong? No, they can't help it.

Ok, ok.... I finally managed to stick all the OT stuff out and get to the end of this post!
Explain to me, how you can slate Strictly and most other mainstream TV light entertainment and yet create a post of your own titled 'Favourite Simpson moments'... You find that memorable!?...

Strictly or X-factor which is the best/worse?

There's only one way to find out. FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT.

More memorable than low-rent schlebs and checkout girls singing/dancing to other low-rent schlebs watching them.

I can quite confidently say the Simpsons (well up to series 9) is approximately 1,000,000 times better than BBC/ITV primetime.

In 20 years time will anyone give a flying **** about anything strictly or x factor has ever done or any legacy apart from the corpse of british entertainment lying next to the now defunct woolworth's bargain basement bin?

The Simpsons gave cartoons was the genesis of modern cartoon humour, satire and characters. BBC/ITV primetime is a race to the bottom in how patronising and contemptuous commissioning editors are to the public. And they lap it up.
    What wheels...? Wheelsmith.co.uk!
  • I'd also point out the number of different posters and replies are already on the Simpsons thread - Showing a complete random group of stranger's love for the show.

Try doing that with Strictly/X Factor: Crap Dancer/Singer made tit of themselves on TV to some rubbish comments from someone no-one in the world respects of cares about....in a slightly different way/costume or murdering someone elses song for no other reason apart from they have a tragic back story. Where as they should in fact be on Jeremy Kyle's 'Too depressing for TV'.

    clarified that for you

QI isn't exactly part of the race to the bottom is it ? and if you don't like BBC1 then go to BBC4

btw I agree about the simpsons but only to a certain extent, mainstream cartoons that appeal to the broad spectrum of viewers have been done before (Matt Groenig would be the first to make a link between the simpsons and the flinstones) but the simpsons definitely were on their own at the time

Yeah, that's true. It's only a matter of time before QI goes over to BBC1. I still haven't forgiven the BBC for doing the same to HIGNFY. Lost all its blood value overnight.

And it's not as good as it was. That maybe down to the rose-tinted spectacle version of the ideal QI panel (David Mitchell, Sean Locke and Reginald D Hunter perhaps).

Time for an update. Michelle gone, no surprise there.

Does anyone else wince every time Alesha Dixon says something along the lines of "You done a great dance tonight." Whatever happened to basic English speaking skills on the Beeb?

I thought Scott pulled off a superb one - brilliant choreogaphy, where do they get all the ideas from? Still don't think Henson deserves half the praise he's getting and I still think he's personality-less.

Anyone want to place their bets for the last three? I'll go for Matt, Scott and Kara. It's time Ann went now, too. The joke's worn off.

    "You was brilliant"

Makes me cringe and throw things at the TV even more than watching Widdy 'dance'.

Ah, Ruth. Your post reminded me to catch-up on iPlayer.
Glad Michelle has gone. Agree Matt, Scott and Kara are the best dancers, but winning SCD is a different matter
Hope Patsy goes next (if not AW!), I don't rate her at all.
Flic is deffo in the 'at risk' zone, hated the armography.
Pamela started well, may have hit her limit. Standing still is a disadvantage, when others are progressing, even they are not such good dancers.
Gav is improving, is one of the last 3 males, could be darkhorse. People either 'get him', or not..........ahem..........I think Bruno does.

The only guys I know who watch shows like this are in relationships. One of the worst moments of my life was being invited round to a friend's for dinner with him and his wife. They wanted to watch Strictly before dropping me and my brother home. We ended up taking the bus home after 20 minutes.

I do like it when guys say that they like it though because of x hot woman. As I said to a guy once, there are plenty of shows for guys with hot women, so why watch shows aimed at women?!

Good luck to all you guys who watch it, but I'll stick to sport and going out!

Wow, I wish I was as manly as you and that the only things in my life were sport and beer. If only I'd laid off the Estrogen supplements as a little boy it may have all been so different.

I'm not scared to say it - I watch Strictly and enjoy it. Then again, I am the only male child out of 10 kids produced by my dad and his two brothers so maybe there is some genetic fault in me!

Much as I like her I have to agree. Thought she was mis-choreographed last Saturday and I don't think her dances have been all that inspiring in general. Then again, maybe it's just the way she's performed them...........

I wasn't too impressed with the clothes-ripping-off routine on Saturday - seen that gimmick many times before and even I saw it coming.

Yuk! Apparently there have been plenty of complaints about that kiss. I suspect Alesha was upset that Gav headed for Bruno and not her - she's made enough comments about Gav's body.

You wouldn't say the BBC was punching a hole through the bottom of the barrel into a rat infested cellar of tired, lazy programming?
I'm getting a nagging feeling you're not a fan of the show........

True, but then it's not aimed at me - Like pretty much every show on the BBC - All commissioned for shrieking harpees and pinot grigio glugging bored housewives with nothing better to do than watch masterchef/great bake off/period drama/low-rent saturday primetime moron tv/soaps/daytime trash. So I can choose not to watch it, but what else can I watch? Dave?! Awful Formula 1?! The whole schedule is skewed totally towards women.

I don't actually watch any of the above but what's the point in a public broadcaster that omits 50% of the public? Ok, bar the news.
    I. Rationalise paying my licence fee by imagining it being just for the radio.

Can't warn to PK. Her Viennese Waltz didn't have enough of the dizzy twirling that makes it so difficult, and she was too upright, none of that 'eewgh garlic breath leaning away from her partner at the chest' shape that so characterises the VW.

That said I can't warm to Kara either, and her Argentine Tango was sublime.

  • Alesha simply shouldn't be there, she hasn't got the credibility of the other judges. But I suppose anything that makes it less middle aged and Daily Mail must be a good thing.

Scott's jive was great. I reckon Felicity will be out on Sunday. But then who? Pamela's on thin ice methinks. Maybe Matt too. Blasphemy I know.

Yeah, cos Bruno and Craig are typical Mail reader types

She's one of those 'famous for being famous' people I suppose. Not unlike Amanda Holden? I had to fast-forward i-player when she was singing the other day - methinks she must be a much better dancer than singer (though I haven't seen her dance!).

Yes, that IS blasphemy. Matt's up there with Scott and Kara.

What puzzles me is why the judges don't use their scores to differentiate more. Only Craig really marks down the weaker dances, but if they all did then getting 8s and 9s would mean so much more. Giving Ann 5s and 6s is a total insult to some of the other dancers who've been given those scores.

Doesn't help when they give 8s in week one either, very little scope for improvement. They also seem to give 10s too easily, I'm sure there were errors in Scott's jive - 10s were very rare in the first few series and you didn't see them until the last few weeks.

Of course! But my point is still valid. Stricltly is old-fashioned and conservative, which is part of its charm.

I'm with Squired on this. It's nowt more than poncing about in stupid costumes with a panel of old queens marking you on your preening, pouting and flouncing about.

But Matt did have the rumba last week which seems incredibly hard to score well on.

Anyone any idea why some weeks they all do different dances and some weeks they all do one or other of just two?

Early on they keep the dances similar so that the dances which are tougher to learn as a massive newbie don't penalise the dancers.

Later on they like to change it up.

Matt will win - there needs to be a story - being best from the start all the way doesn't really cut it.

Indeed it is - Matt's only weakness is his partner, who doesn't always pick the best routines for him....
