I'm 42 carrying a few pounds more than I'd like but i get out on my bikes 3/4 times a week and I'm by no means fast up hill? My bikes are a 08 Trek 9.0 that i saved hard for and sold my trusty Diamondback for ! I have a HT that i bought the frame in the sales and built with e-bay and stuff from the classifieds on here ! But i also ride a 5.5k Superfly 100 29er with XX group set ? do i get the most out of the bike ...... for me yer i love it .......do i have more cash than sense ........ you tell me I've been back riding since my 10year old was born as my get away my mum bless her thought it was great as well as slightly nuts that a "guy my age is still messing around on bikes!" However she died 3 years ago due to a botched routine hospital opp  3 years on the family get some cash to say sorry ! I spent some on the house put some away for my 2 kids and bought my dream bike ! Have i wasted money i dont think my mum would have thought so ??? would you diss me on the trail if you knew that my dead mum was the reason i could ride "that" bike ...i love my bikes but for sure i loved my mum more and I'm sure my kids would have preferred a Gran to dads flash bike !!! So maybe its worth thinking hey the guys out riding his bike and enjoying life who cares how much hes spent on his bike or HOW he can afford/justify his ride, I'll stop and chat to anyone on my rides because i know i'm no better or worse than them i'm just out for a ride !0

I am probably technically inept and slow when it comes to cycling as I have nobody else to measure it against as I don't belong to a club or anything.
But I like my bikes and spend a bit of money on them, usually second hand or clearance, to the point I've got some pretty expensive bits on there, relatively speaking.
So effectively I'm 'wasting' my money, when I could be wasting it on booze, sky subscriptions, cigarettes, cars, burgers or whatever. So fookin what.
What does annoy me, and I think I've mentioned it before are the people who feel they have the inate right to comment negatively on your bike, whether it's a 16 year old on a £300 carrera having a go at a 40 year old who earns enough money to buy a £7000 bike or vice versa. Just enjoy cycling ffs and stop getting hung up on everything.Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.
Who are you calling inbred?0 -

I wont bore you by linking to the whole 42 page thread, but the gist of it was the OP had seen a really fat bloke walking to the shops with some really (and i mean REALLY  ) expensive trainers on. He couldn't understand how said portly chap could justify spending ££££ on expensive trainers when he could barely run a bath, let alone keep up with him (the OP) on his daily 8km run.
Much heated posting then ensued along the lines of : 'they can obviously afford them so why not?' 'I cant stand people out on the pavements who are so obviously "overshoed", 'the other day I felt much smugness when I overtook a chap wearing some blinged up AirMaxxRadSik's in my HiTeks as he stumbled along some gnarly SeaShore'.
Bla bla bla zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
It might be because it is 4 oclock in the morning, but I thought this was hilarious. It made my tea go up my nose.0 -
....this whole thread seems a bit weird to me..who gives a shat who rides what?... but the guy showing off in the lift queue made my lager go up my nose!0
