Seriously, Mr Cooldad, what is your problem. Is your brain failing you or something? You seem like a very angry person.

    Not angry at all.
Just taking a lunch break of typical Surrey food - hummus with cherry tomatoes out of the garden, red peppers and pita.
While waiting for my butler to come back from a delicate ride in the Surrey Hills (use him as a stand in when the weather's a bit moist), I needed a big crap, which got me wondering if you'd posted a reply.

God it turned into messy argument.

There are few places where you do need a good long travel FS to ride in Surrey Hills Yeehaa, don't generalise all sunday warriors though. Those trails are secret, otherwise it would go very very messy with overbiked people.

But to go back to topic, being overbiked is cool. There was one day when Sheep said, -better learn how to ride on a good machine, rather than crash on piece of crap and quit the sport.

I'll choose not put too much stake into someone's opinion who is admittingly terrible though

I didn't say that, but it's true. I used to have 7 kids, but they were all stolen by an upmarket restaurant when I went to Surrey for a holiday.

what a load of crap i drive a £18k mazda i don't need it i could get a round in a 2k car but as i can afford it i own it payed for it not on hpi. so why should people who can afford a nice bike not have 1. ???????.
so you think you are better than them are you sure you are ? iv seen some very good riders taking there time and enjoying the ride with mates chatting as they go.

one thing that i hate is people that think they are better than some one else.

get over it and leave them to ride what they want.
  • If there weren't so many riders spending more money than they needed to, all the bikes you actually NEED to buy would be more expensive and less good, and fewer bike shops would still be in business. So maybe you should thank them for their financial contribution?!

it doesnt matter how you dice it, real skill comes from hard work and is earned on bikes which require more talent.

im not sying folk shouldnt ride good bikes, im just sying they are wasted unless that person has the skill to use its full potential.
  • There comes a point in bike prices where the cost of a bike compared to the performance/weight/durability starts to curve upwards and you pay a lot more for not a lot more. Realistically if you're riding a bike that cost 4k, yet theres a 2k version it probably isn't worth it as you'll be paying for the bling more than anything.

I might get jealous and think when i see people riding nice bikes ridiculously slow, but if they've worked for it and want it thats entirely their decision they can get on with it and pay extortionate prices for the bling so the cheaper stuff i buy can be that cheap

I wouldn't say wasted. It's only wasted if it's not used. It doesn't matter the price of a bike, the only thing that matters is it's used.

People need to stop worrying about someone who has something nicer than them. You will always try to justify your point by saying it's wasted because their not of the skill level you perceive a bike of that price should be. At the end of the day, it fit their budget, serves their purposes and that's all that matters.

I bet your the same types that are obsessed with celebrity gossip magazines. More interested in complaining about what others are doing and buying rather than focusing on your own life.

How do you know they don't have the skill to ride them just because you don't see them doing fast down hill or table tops ???

you are right about the skill and hard work thing but what's wrong with getting a good bike that they can learn on.

and dont forget £200 might be a lot to you but to them is small change.

you can tell when they are riding in the best kit but are crawling along that they are rubbish and probably rubbish human beings too.

you cant buy skil and real satisfaction comes from beating a trail, not just completing it.

  • but people dont deserve bikes they cant ride to their fullest potentil, these people make me sick.

Got to this post reading the thread and had to post. That statement is just daft and smacks of jealousy.

Dont deserve it? Man alive, if someone has earned the readies and want to buy a nice bike they deserve to be able to do so. Makes you sick, with jealousy?

Too much concern about what others ride here - its a tad worrying that when I'm out all people are eyeing up is my bike then think he's going too slow! Are people really this insecure
  • I've rode with riders who were bad, good, very good, and a very, very small percentage who I'd consider exceptional.

Based on the rider capability = bike capability theory, there'd be very few riders out there who'd warrant a remotely decent bike, based on some of the opinions on here.

If someone wants to drop £4K on a bike, then that's up to them...it's their cash, wasted or not. I've seen riders on expensive bikes who have less talent than me, and some who have more than me. The same goes for riders on relatively inexpensive bikes too.

I suppose if it really does bother the better riders out there, then you can always take comfort in the fact that you have spent much less on your set-up, and also have more talent.

I also think that there are a few people on here who are just enjoying a bit of a wind-up too!

I am getting tired of it to be honest, there's just too many people that are far too easily annoyed, like Cooldad, Dodgy, Bellys, MountainMonster etc etc.

Of course, they appear to lack any real intelligence, so will read this as a personal attack on them and their families, so I will enjoy watching you carry it on.

fair point lads, but i cant help thinking they dont know what the bike is capable of,buying a freeride bike and using it for xc

Maybe 99% of the time they do ride freeride but the one day you saw them they thought they'd try XC?

i dont know what you mean.

all im doing is trying to do is fuel the most ridiculous argument since ht vs fs and spd vs flats.
this thread being trolled is the best thing that could have happened to it.

these threads should get locked as quickly as the ones asking about the value of your bike.

i have enjoyed it very much and am going to sign out of this one now. thanks for playing along

I have to admit that without Sheep's postings these forums woul be dull as shite. Same old threads about tyres, What bike?, HT v FS, what frickin' lights etc.

Anyway...unless you can afford a Whyte and ride it to the limit don't even bother talking to me.
