It's their money so why not spend it on an expensive bike if they want to.0

fair point lads, but i cant help thinking they dont know what the bike is capable of,buying a freeride bike and using it for xc0
-
Why are so many mbt'ers so worried about what other people are riding or doing?
If someone wants an Orange, Remedy etc and can afford one and they enjoy riding it then fair play to them whether they are experts or novices.0 -

What he said. Too many of these threads of late.0 -
im with the OP, all the gear no idea riders are ruining this great sport.0
-
Agree with all the other above - who care what others are riding - just get on and enjoy
your own ride!
Don't feed the troll0 -
I bought an orange crush last year on bike to work scheme. Not mtb'd for years. Hardcore hardtail and at 42 I'm certainly not hardcore. I'm unfit and sh*t but love it and have fun. Enjoy your riding and leave them to theirs.0

Sometimes its nice to just have an expensive piece of kit. I bet most people who have expensive cars don't track race them limiting them to the road, and therefore 70mph, but you wouldn't complain about them. Jealousy :roll:0

Move along please, nothing to see here............"Didn't hurt"0

I think the OP has a point.
If your not a top rider you don't need top need.
But then again, if you got the cash and want top gear why not.0 -
-
There's lots of things we don't need.
We don't need cars that do 120mph, we don't need 3 bed houses unless we have at least 2 children. We don't even need to ride our bikes, we do it because we like it. And we buy things because we like them.
If we only ever got what we needed, life would be very boring indeed.[/i]0 -

There are probably people who could outride the OP on a cheaper bike than his. Does that mean he should get a cheaper one, or that he's ATGNI?
So, basically what everybody else said- leave them to get on enjoying themselves and do the same.0 -
i think anyone who rides a big pricey bike should know how to handl it first.
so many people buy massive bikes or expensive lightweight bikes which they ride in inappropriate places, its ridiculous!!
if the blokes on their 5 or 6 inch trail and all mountain bikes were to learn on a hardtail instead, they would be better riders and have more skill and know how to deal witha trail instead of just crashing along it.
it just annoys me when im a better rider than most of the peopl i see and never get overtaken but people are dawdling along on superbikes when they would be better suited to something cheaper and spend themoney they save on something that is acually usefull to them elsewhere.
rant over, sorry but it just needs to be said.0 -
You don't need a bike at all, and if you want to ride a lot of people wouldn't break BSOs in the normal course of things, and certainly a £400 MTB would almost certainly be adequate in most situations.
That's not to say that a more expensive bike isn't nicer to ride. My girlfriend doesn't ride much at all, but she can instantly tell how much nicer my Top Fuel is to ride than her Rockhopper, and that in turn is better than the Raleigh she had before.
Who's to say when it's a waste of money? I think CraigXXL summed it up perfectly in his last post.0 -
Are you really bothered what they ride and wear???
And did it really ruin you enjoyment that much ???
Come on[/i][/b]Be your self dont always follow have a go at leading.0 -
you dont need a BMW M3 to to get from A to B but plenty of peolle have one when a fiat 500 would don the job
People buy what they want and its their money at the end of the day. If they are pumping money into LBS and the bike industry it can only be good right?

I think it comes down to what makes you happy, at the end of the day. I think Mr Joey's
got a point; what's the point of having all the gear when you don't use it and you end up over-biked? But if it makes them happy, well, you can't argue with that. Personally, I would only upgrade something when I felt that I've reached a certain level of skill and the current piece of kit/compoment is preventing me from progressing. I'm happy in the knowledge that I'm getting the most out of what I've got. Others, though, are happy to know that they've got more than they need and can therefore grow into the bike. Whatever puts a smile on your face. After uphill there's downhill0 -

But what is over biked? It appears to just be someone on a nicer bike than you who's not as good a rider, which just makes people look like jealous morons.
Surely unless you break the bike then technically you're over biked!0 -
but people dont deserve bikes they cant ride to their fullest potentil, these people make me sick.0
-
But what is overkill!? If you don't break the bike, or at least come close, then are you not overbiked? I just don't get all the self-appointed judges of over biked, like I said, it seems to be anyone with a nicer bike who's not as good a rider.0
-
I don't tend to look at what others are riding or wearing, and even if I did I wouldn't be able to distinguish the more expensive bikes from the cheaper ones.
I'm just not interested; it doesn't bother me in the slightest what others ride. All I'm bothered about is enjoying myself and improving my fitness.0 -
Maybe there should be a practical test at bike shops then they could allocate people bikes according to thier performance during the test.
Intense would probably only need to make 3 or 4 downhill bikes a year."Didn't hurt"0 -
And they could stop production of all road bikes above £500, they all do exactly the same thing after all!0
-
I think there should be a test to determine what mountain bike you're allowed. All bike shops should have a nice gravelly path, a chairlift assited DH course, ans some sick-to-the-power-of-rad northshore.
Unless you can ride the nrothshore, you're only allowed an Apollo Shockwave.0 -
