Sheepsteeth, that is a fair point,

yeah, i really like to get out of the saddle and work the trail and get the bike spinning and flowing across a trail, especially when out with your mates, fs just dampens everything out including the fun.

theres nothing like wrestling the best out of a hartail on your favorite route with your mates, all feeding off of each other and really pushing the limits.

Oh yeah, I quite agree, I love my hardtail, but I also really enjoy the FS. I also like to think that ten years on a hardtail means that I have the skills to make the most of the FS, but I'll have to let let other riders decide if that's actually true.

i think anyone who rides a big pricey bike should know how to handl it first.

so many people buy massive bikes or expensive lightweight bikes which they ride in inappropriate places, its ridiculous!!

if the blokes on their 5 or 6 inch trail and all mountain bikes were to learn on a hardtail instead, they would be better riders and have more skill and know how to deal witha trail instead of just crashing along it.

it just annoys me when im a better rider than most of the peopl i see and never get overtaken but people are dawdling along on superbikes when they would be better suited to something cheaper and spend themoney they save on something that is acually usefull to them elsewhere.

rant over, sorry but it just needs to be said.
    :lol::lol::lol:

How dare they?! How very dare they...!!?!

If you don't race at world cup / Olympic level, you shouldn't be riding around on anything more expensive / better than a 1980's Peugot or Raliegh bike.

    True story.

there can be nothing better in this world than going uphill slightly faster than someone else who you don't know, who doesn't know you, when they don't know you're racing them, and probably don't realise that you are clearly the superior rider because you have overtaken them going uphill.
You're absolutely right. I find this is so much more satisfying when the clumpet you're racing against has absolutely no idea what's going on, bloody idiots.
It's as if they just don't REALISE that a bike should be ridden to it's limits. I mwan, what the hell is wrong with them?
Why bother buying something expensive and pootle along on it.
  • FS for uk trail centres is total overkill, you could ride most of them on a cyclocross bike, leave the FS for freeride/downhill....

You're absolutely right. I often ride Coed y Brenin on a road bike, just to show people up.
Maybe you'd like to join me some time.

I'd love to get a video of you razzing Kane and Abel at Coedy, just to show these twonks what's what.
  • lol, better on a bmx i think, point being i went back to HT from fs 3 or 4 years ago and i wouldnt take a fs to a trail centre not unless full on dh/fr was my thing.. its like watching kids jump off garage roofs on 8" travel bikes, i just cant see how you can enjoy it much without at least riding the bike somewhere towards its limits... each to their own though i spose

It's better if a lucky ponce buys very expensive bike then realising that he doesn't like sport sells the bike to me, I don't mind half price bikes.

I'll choose not put too much stake into someone's opinion who is admittingly terrible though

As long as the bike looks sexy and appealing to me to ride it once more, I wouldn't care if its a full on DH rig or Cyclocross beauty. Nor does it worry me what other people ride, only admiration of their set up really. I like to be overbiked and sometimes underbiked too, just to realise how much I miss being overbiked again, and all -Bling involved with it.

One thing to consider is what bike did they buy and for what purpose.

If someone has gone out and spent £2,500 on a very light full suspension then maybe they have done so because they want the extra security of a full suspension in terms of grip, they may have a back problem which means they need full suspension and they want a lightweight bike so they can ride on it for longer and make the most of their time and money. No one likes a heavy bike - good rider or bad rider. Just because they are not as experienced as you why should they put up with a heavy bike if they can afford a lighter one.

People riding the wrong type of bike on the other hand - eg a £4k DH rig when all they do is light XC - well maybe that is them being ripped off by a shop who just saw the profit.

End of the day it is none of anyone elses business. If someone can afford an expensive bike then it benefits everyone else as the profits go to the decent bike companies who then can develop more bikes and bring down costs. I would rather that then them buying some £100 crap from a supermarket which they then don't use as it is heavy and the gears don't work right etc etc.

Tranny bull is fine by me.
Seriously, cooldad, if that IS your real name. What the hell is your problem? Do you really think you're better than people because you live in Surrey? That's just a little pathetic, don't you think?

Anyway, I'm done, I can't pretend to care what other people are riding any more, but it's been fun seeing you all fall for it!

It is my real name, but to you, it's Mr Cooldad.

And I believe you originally brought up Surrey.

Actually I'd love to live in North Wales for the riding, just a pity about the dickheads who already live there.

Actually, I didn't bring up Surrey, some bloke called Richard did. I just pointed out how fabulously overbiked he was.

Seriously, Mr Cooldad, what is your problem. Is your brain failing you or something? You seem like a very angry person.

    Well that's not strictly true.

You said I was over biked for London, and I said I rode in Surrey. I'm pretty sure you then said everyone in Surrey eats babies and that there was nowhere in Surrey you would need anything more hardcore than a trike.
  • I'm skint and I'm still over-biked .

    Not angry at all.
Just taking a lunch break of typical Surrey food - hummus with cherry tomatoes out of the garden, red peppers and pita.
While waiting for my butler to come back from a delicate ride in the Surrey Hills (use him as a stand in when the weather's a bit moist), I needed a big crap, which got me wondering if you'd posted a reply.
