Does the uppy-downy post have any lateral flex etc or are they solid like a normal post?
Forgive my ignorance but how does the remote lever work, can't seem to tell from the piccy?
There is no flex that I can feel, and I'm a big chap. There is a small amount of side-to-side play in the interface between the post and the saddle, but again, when you're actually in the saddle, you (or at least I) can't notice it.
Unless you can get a Jop dead cheap like I did, if I'm honest, I'd probably go for the pure racing one as it's got more adjustment, (5") and at normal prices, is cheaper than the jop anyway.
The remote is a Joystick. So you move the lever in any direction at all to drop the post. Then unweight it, and move the lever again to popit back up again. Very simple idea really, but it works very well.
You been out for a proper blast on your P7 yet DMC? Me and Richie are off to Lee Quarry next Saturday (18th) if you fancy coming along.0 -

it appears that the 27.2 version only has 4" of travel (according to the superstar website)FCN 9 - 2008 Kona Cinder Cone

Sorry, I was referring to the "normal" size posts :P
As for pedals. I've just been looking at the new XTR trail pedals and they look like they'd be quite nice. Heavy though.0 -
Thanks for the feedback, its not something I've looked into but I must admit they are now peaking my curiousity :P
Nah, not had time for its maiden voyage yet, I've had and still got a really hectic week, including the weekend, so it'll be sometime after then that I'll get time to give it a blast.
Thanks for the kind offer, but I'll not be able to make the Lee quarry trip this time round, shame as I'd love to see if its as good as they say? Let us know how you get on there, hope you enjoy itOrange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

Stunning that mmbop of yours.. gratz! anyway I'm just thinking when you changed your rotors to the alligator ones (180mm), did you have to change your caliper adapters since the clean sweeps are 185mm? or was it irrelevant? and hows the performance compared? Thanks.0

I was able to make the rotors fit using the existing mounts, but it took some faffing about with the spacers to finally get there. In the end, I just bought some new 180mm mounts anyway. They're only cheap.
If I'm honest, I'd not say the performance is really any different to the avid rotors. They were bought more for aesthetics than anything else  . I guess they'd not heat up as much on long alpine descents, but there are not many alps round these parts. They also seem to squeal like a piggy, but I'm unsure if this is down to the rotors, or the new pads, as I changed both at the same time and am using a different brand of pads to before.0 -
I decided last night that I should re-fit my RaceFace chainrings. The XT rings somehow never seemed to fit properly. They'd constantly rub on one side of the mech, no matter how they were indexed. With the old rings back on, it seems to have rectified it. Very strange.

Lol, don't worry about it mate, I think they are just a very slightly different fitting.0 -
Right, after an "incident" on the top black run at Lee Quarry yesterday, my saddle now looks like this:
I came off pretty hard (bits of me are still only just beginning to get sore now) and it's bent the left hand side Ti rail.
So, I'm now in the market for a new saddle. I want another Ragley, as they are VERY comfy (will probs just stick to cro-mo rails though).
So, the question is, do I stick with black and orange, or change to something else, maybe black and blue (oddly enough, the same colour as my nuts this morning), or white and blue.
For reference, this is how my current one looks:

I think the fact I kept on riding for another few hours after it happened didn't do it any favours.
It was a pretty big off. I was bIoody lucky not to go off the end, I'm just surprised that's the only damage.0 -
is the post ok?0

sheepsteeth wrote:is the post ok?
Actually, yes, it is. Very impressed about that too. The knock was hard enough to bend the rail and knock the post back into the tube a couple of cm, but it still seems perfectly fine.0 -
thats good, id rather sacrifice a saddle than a post so id b concious of that when sourcing a replacement, a sadle which is too tough might mean you end up sacrificing the post in the future.
before people start feeling all vindicated about not having an adjustable post due to the potential shortfall, its plenty tough and i recon it will take a bash as hard as it would to damage a regular post to damage the joplin but if you eventually stack in hard enough to do damage, id rather damage the cheaper component in much the same way as if i was using a 70 quid thomson, id rather my 35 quid saddle broke in a crash as opposed to the post.0 -

Nah
I'm happy with everything as it is (for now).
Just need the new saddle, and perhaps some new pedals too. Still trying to decide if I want to go back to flats or try some different clipless pedals with bigger platforms.0 -

oh noes
Ask yourself, would the 'incident' be likely to cause the same damage on another saddle no matter its make, or do you think its more likely the Ragley?
If it'd cause the same damage, then I'd get another of the same, as it really suits the build (other than the same colour, do Ragley do a White and Orange?)
If you think its the saddle, try another make and see how you go?
Hows you healing up?Orange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos
