Blue and Orange Mmmbop - Crudcatcher Bike of the Year 2010

If you feel confident enough, saw the bolt head and use a flat head screwdriver to get them out.
I tried it once on something but my useless self managed to let the saw slip and i had a nice big scrape down the item they were screwed into.0 -
I've had that happen loads on old bolts & screws when i was working on the mini's. Get a sharp flat bladed screwdriver, couple of taps with a hammer to get a bite, and gingerly unscrew the sucker!0
-
Finally managed to drill out the remaining rotor bolts so have now replaced the old clean sweep rotors with new Alligator Sawtooth rotors (180mm).
Just been for a very short ride round the block to bed them all in properly (running new pads, rotors lines and levers). Hopefully, now I've got the goodridge hoses fitted, the brakes wont need bleeding every 2 minutes like they did with the Avid lines
It's a beautiful day here AGAIN today, but sadly, I can't go for a ride because all the roads round my house are closed for the Manx Grand Prix

Nice, they look lethal though!0

Finally had a little look see through the pictures in here, and jesus thats a sexy bike you got there man. Very loud and look at me but in such a sexy way.0

Been and got muddy today.
The trail leads right down to the reservoir in this pic and is more fun than you can shake a stick at:
Also, Matt, I still need to post those spacers I promised you :oops:0 -

well, it was a BIT muddy. More dusty to be fair. Not that I'm complaining, the weather here is EPIC at the moment.0 -
Nice pics, particularly 4th one down, bit of a 'top of the world moment'. Seems you've got some nice riding on your doorstep too 8)
PS. How is the bike riding, all dialled in yet?Orange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

Well, after a few shorter rides, I thought it was all dialled in. But after todays epic she's come back making allsorts of noises:
I think the crank spindle needs re-greasing as it's squeaking.
The Front mech needs moving round slightly as the chain rubs when in higher gears.
The pads are rubbing very slightly and I think the tip of the saw-teeth on the rear rotor is catching the caliper very slightly.
Also, my new pads / rotors have started absolutely SCREAMING so I may apply some sandpaper to the pads and see how that goes.
It's never ending
I've been wondering what to upgrade next, but to be honest, I think I'm actually done.0 -
Its horrible when things go wrong, and have you noticed that when one thing goes, all the other parts feel left out and start to moan too!
Can the caliper be adjusted to not catch the rotors or is it a case of put up or ship out?Orange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

Luckily they're all very small issues on their own. I'll probably go sort it all out in a sec to be honest. :P0

CWNT, quick review of the ride please. I'm thinking of changing the GT frame for one of these. How do you find it on the climbs compared to the 456? Also whats it like over the rough stuff.0
-
Quick review. Despite slacker angles, climbing is much easier than on the 456. I suspect it's partly down to the weight and partly down to it being so stiff. You'd not think it'd make such a difference (I know I didn't), but when you really put the power down, it goes like a rocket.
As for the downy pointy bits, I think that it can be simply summed up by saying...
The slacker angles, combined with the Joplin had me hitting stuff I'd almost certainly have thought twice about on the 456.
Oh, and tip of the day (in my opinion) don't try saving weight with lower volume tyres. The ride is VERY firm, and without massive, high volume tyres or a thudbuster or something, I think it'd be pretty uncomfortable.
I know people always go on about how their new bit is so much better than the old bit, but I REALLY do mean it. This frame with this build is absolutely PERFECT for me. Really couldn't be happier!0 -
Oh shut up CWNT, im bitter enough at not getting an MMMBop due to lack if funds already... dont rub it in......

Out of interest what is the standover height on the 18"? I'm looking at the 16" <insert short arse joke> but have heard that the BB is pretty high on these.0
-
bobcheese - Sorry mate, only just seen this.
With forks wound down to 95mm and very tall tyres, BB is at about 12.5" with a standover around 30.5"
Wound out at 140mm, I get BB at about 13.5" with standover around 31.5"
Got my remote kit for the Jop today, along with some Goodridge cable.
Now, fitting. Well, it's not massively difficult. The instructions that come with it are a bit pooh. The diagrams are much too dark. But the Crank Bros. website has some pretty decent instructions. the hardest part was hammering out the retaining pin, but you get all the tools you need to do it, just don't be scared to give it a good whack!
Cables: The Goodridge outer is a little bit too thick, the outer supplied with the kit is much thinner, but it was black, which simply would not do  , so I've had to improvise a little using an old ferrule.
The Joystick itself is a simple enough thing, but does a cracking job. I think I'm going to be using it much more often now.

Cheers for the comments. I'm rather pleased with it if I do say so myself
Now, I've got a Tango PG990 cassette and KMC X9-SL (gold) on the way on payday.
Can anyone think of any other upgrades I've missed?0 -
PEDALS!!
Some of them fancy superstar thingymbobs.
Looks so so nice. Just got my frame delivered so can't wait to start building it0 -
I ride clipless for "proper" rides. The old V8s only go on there for commuting so if I were to upgrade pedals, it'd be for a different set of Shimano clipless.
If I was to ever go back to riding flats though, it'd be Superstar with some Five Tens.0 -
Very nice Monsieur Chat
Does the uppy-downy post have any lateral flex etc or are they solid like a normal post?
Forgive my ignorance but how does the remote lever work, can't seem to tell from the piccy?Orange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos
