I may have missed something/messed up subscribing to the list (more than likely)...is there a plan for today?
  • I've just joined the list. I am in Huddersfield, but i'm 31 and only got my first road bike on sunday (been a mountain biker as long as i can remember) so I might try and drive over to join the riding.

Took the bike out monday for a quick 13 mile circuit.... OMG! why didn't i buy a road bike before..... who stole all my friction!!! :D:D loving it

I'm not doing the manny - pool ride as its sounds just horredous. I think the manchester 100 looks a much better prospect.

As for the rivvy sportive. I'm up for doing the 50 miler if we want to arrange a meet up. I'm doing london to paris on the wed after it so will be looking for a nice easyish spin out to keep my legs supple.

Does anyone fancy getting togther while we're looking at sorting stuff out for a ride sometime?

Muffin man, you should give the many to pool a go! I know what you mean about being a mare but i did it last year for the first time but started first thing and realy enjoyed it. It's given me a push to do more sportives, although my mate doesn't agree, he's of the same mind as you he hated the run. He started later and got mobed.

It does seem to be the earlier the better from what people have said.

I might give it a go if but I couldn't be arsed doing it on my own

Bloody hell I am so sorry! I've been so distracted with work (which I have recently left) and other things that I completely forgot that I even posted on this forum. Sigh I don't know what else I can say. Again I do apologize, my memory is terrible these days and it takes a bloke with a huge pump to remind me.

Flasheart mentioned it over the phone a couple days ago (then I forgot again), but I have now remembered. I haven't gone through the thread yet but will do so when I return from the *cack* job centre...

With regards the age restriction, it wouldn't be fixed in stone but from experience I know that if there's no age restriction at all we end up baby sitting 14 yr olds who comes along with their older brother/sister. There's no issue if someone wants to bring their other half if they're younger than the 'limit' - personally 28-29 is fine with me maybe a tad younger but if it did take off I'd like to keep it as a 30ish cycle club.

Did some thinking whilst wandering into town and thought of a possible 'ice breaker' to kick things off. Ramsbottom has a hill climb known as The Rake, it's a sod and I reckon it'd be kinda fun to see if we can climb it. It's not a race of any type, we just try to get to the top without getting off and walking (with 25/30% inclines I bet we have trouble :)

I'm not free this weekend but I am the following so if some peeps are interested in meeting up there say next Saturday or Sunday (around 11am-ish) I'll bung up a map of the route. Feel free to check the climb yourselves beforehand :D Oh and be prepared for pain :o ! Don't fear, I don't intend to bring in competativeness into things, not unless people want to race each other. Everything will be fun based and as we have fun we can get fitter together.

I seem to recall there's a pub at the top or nearby, so once we've killed ourselves up the Rake we can have a drinky and then see where we can go from there. We can also have a chat and see what type of things we want to do as a group; organise transport maybe for those who live near each other, maybe sort out some evening events.

Anyhoo if anyone is still interested lemmi know on this thread, and if I forget again get Flasheart to slap me repeatedly

Oh and clothing? Wear what you like, doesn't matter. I would like to say helmets are mandatory but since I don't wear one as much as I should I reckon it should be up to the individual.

Reet I have to pop out again, another ride, YAY! Gonna be scooting around Bury Road at around 6pm so keep your eye out for a bandana wearing nutjob screaming abuse at car drivers 8)
  • Welcome back :D

We've been waiting for you

Yeah I know the Rake. I read your blog and noticed that you'd given it ago. Chapeau matey! I do it on one of my rides, but I go down it not up it. I'm not THAT stupid  I was going to comment on your bog but didn't know how to. I'm not Blog savvy!

Next saturday would be good for me if i was home for 2ish as I'm working on the sunday and got a rugby game to go to Sat night.

I think i've seen you as well on your bike going in the opposite direction to me. Well i went past someone with a bandana, yellow I think it was, biggish guy with a bit of a goatie I think probs in his 50's. Was it you?

This is where you tell me your tall, dark , thin and handsome isn't it and it wasn't you at all

Heya Fungus! Ratherbeintobago has told me you're moving things forward, that's so awesome! I'm glad you guys kinda took control after I fell asleep at the wheel :) The bloggy thingy requires people to sign up with Google I think, prevents porn links etc being posted by spiderbots *scared of spiders*. I'm trying to remember to take pictures of my travels but always forget, this is why I can't have nice things

I do hope it wasn't me you saw! I do have a yellow bandana, and sometimes forget to shave but I'm certainly not 50 :) (34). Think I'd better shave more! *grabs some wirewool and has a quick scrub.

Dcab, feel free to come and watch, and if you can ride I suspect you'll be like the rest of us, dying slowly as we climb up it! There's no pressure to complete the climb, hell I'll be getting off half way up to pull out my testicles from inside my body!

With regards to the Rake, I think Saturday might be best primarily due to the possibility of races being there on Sundays. Apparently for it's length it's the richest hillclimb in the UK and they can complete it in around 2 minutes. I was lucky to get half way in 5...

Anyhoo gonna go shoot zombies now, but I will make bloody sure I don't forget again!

Perhaps it wasn't you then. Unless you had a bloody bad paper round

In case anyone fancies it and hasn't yet got on the Yahoo group Me and RBIT are going to meet up and go for a ride on Monday. Any other takers?

Whereabouts is this mountain?! I may not be able to ride up it, but would be happy to come shout encouragement and natter in the pub. Oh and I'm 3yrs shy of 30 :)
  • It starts in ramsbottom town centre and the works its way up to the top of a road I cna't rmember the name of. Its red car lumb or holcombe road I think.

Even if we don't all ride it at least we'll have met up.

It starts in the town centre by the urn sculpture/traffic lights at the top of Bridge St & runs up past the end of Dundee Lane to the Shoulder of Mutton.

Monday sounds fine to me, not had any details come through the group so if you can wing me the start time and location I can do my best to drag myself over :)

I was also thinking of doing a 'short' ride around the Pike Circuit for those of us in the Bolton/Horwich area on Wednesday evening (12th May), around 6.30. Start point would be a Barrow Bridge but we can start at Moss Bank Park's main entrance (near the bowling greens) and go from there. I've sent details via the group (attached to the Rake post Andy sent out). It usually takes around 1-2hrs at average pace but no gets left behind (accept me as I'll fall off and die of exhaustion).

Primary reason for the Rake is to meet, have a chat, laugh at how daft we look in lycra and then struggle manfully up to the top of hell in asphalt :) No I am not shaving my legs, not ever!

Mornin'! Lovely day here in Lancashire but rather than go on a ride I'm off to the carboots! Hoping to find some cycle gear on the cheap from the Lostock carbooter, some people like to get rid of their old cycle jerseys :) Might see a couple of you there (I'll be with me Scott bike, red bandana and in what i call my 'scallie' pants).

Toodles and may the sun shine for you all!

And this 5 miles with no hills would be in the notoriously flat West Pennines, would it? :-P

Good to hear you're getting back on your feet, or rather bike, dcab. Don't rush it, do and you're told and you'll be struggling along with the rest of us :)

Myself, Fungus and Andy managed to meet up today. They had already ridden goodness knows how many miles but turned up bright and bushy tailed at the prearranged start point. Ride objectives? Find an ice cream shop on the way into Chorley - Mission accomplished!

There's the Wednesday ride planned plus we have Saturday too. Judging by the size of those guys' legs I reckon we have some guys who can climb the Rake :) Whether it's on the bike or pulled by ambulance I don't know

Thanks for the meet up guys, see you soon!

Not an ice cream shop; theice cream shop :-P

Frederick's on Bolton Rd, if anyone's interested - best ice cream I've had since moving south.

62 miles all in; sadly my bike computer ate the evidence of the 20 miles home from Chorley...

Gutted I missed you on Monday if you where over in Chorley, though Monday is Pilates night.
