@arran77 haha, glad you found it.

@lawman at this rate I'll probably end up with one! Nice goggles btw ;)

Do it, do it I say!!

After slating leisure lakes t'other day, they were the only place with those goggles in the colour I want in stock, so begrudgingly I've given them a chance to redeem themselves. Ordered less than half an hour and they've been dispatched already!

The IXS lid I ordered was the worst fitting thing I'd ever put on my head, it hurt! Gutted is not the word.

I've just had a Mavic Notch and Urge AM delivered. If neither of these are any good I'm left with the A1, which is expensive, doesn't look that good and apparently (according to the reviews I've read) is hot hot hot! However, as lawman says, is really comfortable!

I tried the Notch in the same shop as the A1 and it was no near as comfy and had a lot less coverage at the back, felt very XC. The urge is good, tried one on a few years ago, but imo they look even dorkier than the A1 and are also pretty hot. The Troy Lee is expensive, but the quality is insane, its supremely comfortable, offers great coverage and imo at least it looks the bomb! And come on we live in the UK, when the last time you had to worry about being too hot?

Everyone's head shape is different :)

I originally wanted a Mavic Notch, but reviews said the retention straps were too thin and felt like they were cutting into the tester. I believe he blamed the ""weight weenie French trying to save a few grams" :D

I think if I don't get on with the IXS then I'll try a Bell Super next, or mabye a Bluegrass Goldeneye.

See I think the Urge AM looks pretty good and seems to have plenty of vents, unlike their other helmet, who's name escapes me. I agree with you on the A1 apart from the looks, the new grey one looks ok, the others are gopping, and will probably end up with one. Oh, and last summer was pretty dam warm for the most part.

Completely agree re. fit, I obviously have an odd shaped head as nothing seems to fit particularly well! I hope it fits you as they look ace 8)

Cheers Homer, here's hoping my noggin is a compatible shape :)

Thankfully PureBike had them in stock as it was in transit by 3pm. Will definitely use them again I think, if only for their courier service.

    Easton Havoc wheelset

I was going to buy a 2nd hand pair of Crossmax SX off Pinkbike, but the bloke i was buying them off left them in his car overnight and someone nicked them

CRC had a whopping 42% off the rear wheel and 52% off the front, so the whole wheel set was "only" £387

Doubt they will be here in time for Antur on Sunday, but hey ho

That's a great price for the Havoc's!! Somehow I don't think the CrossMax Enduro's I'll be after later in the year will be discounted as much :(

Have you seen how few spokes there are in the rear wheel? Only 20!! Now if you're a Pro rider, with a support truck at the next stage with new wheels, that's maybe OK... But what if you're in the middle of the Peaks and a spoke snaps? Will the wheel hold up with 19 left? Or will it disintegrate completely?

I think the only way they've been able to get the weight down is to only use 44 spokes in total + a thinner back wheel, which seems to be contrary to the way accepted wisdom's going i.e. wider wheel to give better footprint and more stability on cornering - see clicky.

Only mentioning because I'm currently deciding which new wheels to buy :D

I did look at the new Mavics. What put me off what the narrower rear rim width. The front is 21mm, but i think the back is 19mm. They are assuming that everyone runs a narrower rear tyre. I don't, so that doesn't work for me.

The £700 price tag also doesn't work for me

The Havocs have a 23mm internal rim width, front and back, which is ideal, especially when running 2.5s for DH

Good point and as you mention Antur, I wouldn't want to risk a 20-spoke rear down the black or double-black there...

Great deal on the Easton Havocs DCR!

I originally wanted Havens when building the Mega, but the hub combo was wrong on CRC's discounted wheelsets, so I got some used but perfect condition Crossmax ST from PB. They only have 20 spokes on the rear too, but I wouldn't hesitate to give them a decent amount of abuse after seeing some of the long term reviews of them (maybe would do a double black DH track mind you, not a full whack anyway!). Hans Dampfs were a complete chunt to fit though.... took about 8 tyres leavers, a hairdryer and help from my gf to get them on! First time I've ever not been able to manhandle a tyre onto a rim

Yeah I've seen that, the slightly narrower rim is of more concern though, Mavic's own wheels tend to be pretty tough. Tbh I quite like them because they're yellow  I think they look the dogs and as good as Stan's rims are, they're not yellow, its incredibly shallow, but I think they look great and if they're good enough for Jerome Clementz they're good enough for me!

My next bike is looking likely to be a Bronson or Yolo, when I first started MTB I wanted a Blur 4x, hell I still keep an eye out for one, so Santa Cruz have a crazy appeal to me, which means it'll most likely have 650b wheels, so stuff like the Haven's or Havocs are out until they're released, and they only have 24 spokes anyway.

The other options I've seen so far are Arch EX's on 240's or Tune hubs, but the spares for Tune's are putting me off slightly and neither are yellow  I saw this quite recently on another website too -

    s1600_DSC01329.jpg?1385368677

Once I've got a decal kit from Slik for either Bronson or Solo they'll look damn the same as this and imo it looks the bomb and pretty much the same spec as well, although I'll go 1x XTR 8)

    That is tidy

I do like the yellow i must admit, and it would have gone quite nicely on Tracey. However the grey also goes on Tracey too.

Order has been despatched, so fingers crossed they get here tomorrow (Wife is gonna go nuts !)

Right The wheel set is £602 from Bikeinn and I've clonked mine about the peaks and they are solid... Buy some you know you want to. :D
I'd quite happily take them down anything at Antur
I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

Yes but, although you're far quicker than me everywhere - both up and down, you only weigh 6 stone when you're dripping wet

The Urge and Mavic lids I ordered are no good, so I've bit the bullet and ordered an A1 Drone. I've started to warm quite alot to the looks after seeing a couple whilst out yesterday.

You won't regret it! Used mine for the first time proper yesterday and forgot I was wearing it, so comfortable, loads of coverage and it didn't get too hot either. They are expensive, but definitely worth it!
