A closed road meant a detrour along unfamiliar roads this morning. However I managed to find my way without any problems thanks to the map app on my smartphone :D

    Ah! There's the anti-rants.

Bit of a killer head-wind last night but I managed to pick up a tow part of the way behind a WVM. Thanks to King of Flooring, Peterborough for nice, smooth acceleration and an unhurried pace

Was walking along embankment from Temple to Blackfriars this morning and was just so pleased to see so many cyclists! Glorious day and everyone looked really happy on the road.

Except for the drivers stuck in the traffic jam

  • God awful wind last night, 60mph gusts, alternating between southerly and westerly, most of the time it was a tailwind, but a lot of the time it was smashing you from the side. Went past another road bike and about 2 miles later my chain was thrown and I had to stop and sort it out. Said roadie eventually caught up as I was about ready for the off, so we rode a while together, we were talking about the wind and he told me of earlier in his journey.

The wind was whipping round him, blowing into and out of the road, snatching the handlebars at every opportunity, blowing him into the traffic. A dangerous time. Then a white van came up beside him and the driver waved through the window. The driver than proceeded to drive his van at 20 mph so that he blocked the wind almost completely and sheltered the cyclist, also making sure nobody else came too close. Apparently he kept this up for over a mile until the wind died down a bit.

Not often we get to say this, but what a nice white van man. Chapeau, Sir.

Wow, I'm impressed when a driver shows real awareness and hangs right back while I turn right or something like that, but that's really impressive.

Been out for a warm-up and for the first time in ages didn't need overshoes, layer upon layer and big gloves. Mits & long leggings were plenty warm enough. Summer's here then. :)
  • Thanks to the white van driver who held back approaching the mini roundabout at Coombe Lane asmorning - very good driving and observation skills.

Fun ride home today - left work earlier so more cyclists around. Managed to collect a big bag of scalps. Maintained a good speed - 20mph up a steep hill (a few scalps there) and 23 on a long incline, no one seemed to want to step up to the challenge though?

To Mr Boone of Natwest Collections Centre:

Well done for using common sense and waiving the £260 of charges accrued on a £5 overdraft and for looking into why I haven't received any statements for a year.

May you 'smash it' with a fun shag this weekend.

The gas boiler ain't safe, needs a new fan :( Luckily it isn't mine to repair, the landlady has to coff up the cash and she is good for things like this. I've got to suffer at least one night with no heating or hot water but I've MTFU and can survive.

All sorted now though took longer then the 2 days estimated to get the part. A sinkfull of dishes to wash now though :(
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Chain Reaction; mudguard 2 months out of warranty, but they stepped up and provided a refund in the form of vouchers.

    Nice one

Yes, but I'm a single bloke and only have to do the dishes when all the clean ones are used and in the sink.

  • Nice chap following me up the hill through Golders to Hampstead Heath on Friday, took the lead then, after I realised he was riding the same model Carrera roadie I'd just bought on ebay, waited for a bit of a chat.

Replacing internally routed cables today by pulling cotton through with the old cable to pull the new one through with the same cotton, and the cotton fell out on the front mech cable. Bugger.

Anti-rant not rant tho due to patient and long + drawn-out attempts at threading new cable through the frame suddenly succeeding; pretty much on a par with all your birthdays happening at once and Leicester beating the derby by a margin the day before, when it dropped through.

    <smug/> :)

Green lights all the way from Putney Bridge, along Queen's Ride, URR to Church Road, which must be about 4 miles. First time that this has ever happened to me.

To the guy who said good morning to me in OYB. Sorry for not responding, I was having a one-sided chat with Babygirl
  • First ride down the embankement home last night, thought i'd try a differnet route. Rode with a group of about 8 chaps doing a good 23--25mph between bridges. couldn't ask for a better commute home after a truly crap day at work, and so much fun to ride with other folk :D

Thank you to the black somethingorother car that slowed down to let me turn into Balham High Road, going towards Stockwell, and the other car that slowed to let me safely pass the bus a few yards ahead.

    :)

    Great start to the morning.

  • When a biker with missing teeth pulled up next to me this morning I had that sinking feeling. What had I done to annoy him? :?

"You're proper good on that thing. I see you every morning" :D and that was it the traffic moved off, to be honest I was completely lost for words anyway!

After a rubbish week at work he brought a massive smile to my face. So thank you mystery biker I hope karma brought you something nice in return :D
