I've got £20 coming to me from Planet X's February price promise.

Of course, they've ignored my request for payment for two days, but still.

Today was a Phil Collin's day.

    Phil_Collins_No_Jacket_Required_2016_cover.jpeg

Gabba, mesh base layer and arm warmers on the way to work as it looked like rain but didn't actually happen during the time I was on the road and a long sleeve jersey and mesh base layer for the return journey with a night vision evo vest doing the reflective thing.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

One of the Polish girls in work is getting a bike soon and wants me to ride home with her :D but I think it's more for protection as the quickest route is along an unlit lane and only a 10 minute ride.

light bikes don't make you any faster .. HA HA HA like fook they don't

Commuted on the "vintage" 2008 Roubaix yesterday .... the speed and acceleration difference over my other bikes is just phenomenal ... SCR ??? ... no, it was like I was a completely different league, my GPS showed numbers I didn't know existed on it .... 6 PR's yesterday .. and massive jumps as well. we are talking knocking up to 10seconds off of times.

and road positioning, normally I ride in the cycle lane or by the kerb .... nope, now I am sat either in the middle of the road or to the outside of it ready to over take the car infront

really really made me want a better commuter ... something lighter, with drops and light weight wheels ... might have to become an Allez-man :D

Due to a mechanical failure on my Allez, I have to commute on my SuperSix Evo for a couple of days while I am waiting for the part to arrive. Jesus Christ, I don't even know how am I going to go back to the Allez now... Commuting is extra fun with a proper light and stiff bike.

Yesterday was a lovely day, Had the day off. The Mrs had the day off. The Kids did not. (which itself is an anti rant).

Took Mrs Toe out for a tootle around the lanes of the north Cotswold's, trying to avoid any hills, which is nigh on impossible. She was clipless for the first time so was a bit nervous, but she took to it like a duck to water. We passed many cyclists while on our bimble and all gave a cheery hello.

Saw a peloton approaching and was surprised to see that it was all ladies, The EPO said that she may even consider joining a club in the summer as her fitness improves.

We then stopped at Meon Vale farm shop for lunch to cap off a glorious morning and early afternoon.

Hmm - first ride this year with no overshoes - and the jacket was too warm - makes a pleasant change. :)

Finally realised I can take the buff I put on my head under my helmet out of the back pocket of my jacket last week and this week I was in mittens rather than gloves though I won't put the gloves away just yet, also ditched the jacket and in my Scott gillet.

Evening club rides starting without the lights on. Bliss - even if it was only for 20 minutes.

rode home without the jacket - and like others - with mitts instead of gloves ... oh - and didn't bother with the front light turned on either (back one is always on)

Up and over garage door has been replaced with a roller door = more room for bikes!

Commuting both ways with just a rear flasher on now - for the first time this year, sun was actually up & visible when I left home this morning. Literally dozens of deer in the fields and woods. Fox running across a field, red in the sun. Skylarks singing somewhere overhead. Snowcapped mountains in the distance. Took it easy this morning - stinking cold - but still only 5 mins or so slower than average.
    Happy.

First ride since the 24th Feb as I've been suffering man flu. It was fully light when I left rather than the half light it had been and I was in shorts. I was slow and struggled to keep any speed up, but it felt good to be out on the bike this morning.
  • Managed to make 2 working pairs of speedplay cleats out of 3 broken pairs :)

After a good 12 months of personal issues taking precedence I'm back on the bike proper. 4 commutes and 170 miles last week, 4 commutes and plans for tomorrow this week.

My Dad has been in care home for the past year and unfortunately he passed away early January. I'm an only child, Mum passed away 20 years ago, Dad and I were close. It was tough. I've been out on the bike when I can, it's a good head clearer. Happy to know Dad is now in a good place.

    Enjoy life peeps.

Sorry to hear about your Dad - never easy - good to get out though. I took my Dad sailing after his Dad died - he enjoyed just being out and about with nothing to worry about. Not looking forward to when I have to go through it though.

That's tough, good that you are positive though. The bike is an excellent head clearer.

Unlikely to be anyone on here (because it involves stations, not because you aren't a friendly lot) but got to Euston last night and took lights off bike to lock it up. Left lights on rack above my bike and jumped on the train out to Hertfordshire. Realised my mistake when trying to find lights for bike journey at other end and headed back to Euston where some kind person had seen them and moved them out of obvious view, but near my bike, so I could retrieve them. Feel like I now have £60 (replacement cost) of free money to spend on new bits for the bikes!
  • Managed N+1 yesterday, and even with the permission of my wife, who knew the value of the bike (2nd hand, but still more than most people would accept a bike should cost).

It will allow me to commute along the River Trent from Beeston to Trent Lock when I start my new job in April. A nice change in scenery from the commute through Nottingham City centre from Beeston to Mansfield which I occasionally do now. I promise I will cycle more frequently with such nice views...

new 165mm cranks on my canyon felt much more natural on the short ride home from the bike shop.

So far, so good. Hoping to take it out on a quick spin tonight after work. Need to remember to raise the saddle by 5mm...

Broken pannier rack mount bolt took a grand total of 18 seconds to get out.
1.5mm drill bit, bit it in, then rather than drilling just pushed it out of the frame.

Short sleeves today on the commute, both ways. Not bad considering the return journey was at 10pm, a little chiily to start with but I soon warmed up.
Maybe it's time to ditch the long sleeve jersies and make the switch to short sleeves and take arm warmers just in case and six months since I last wore short sleeves.

Taken over new offices today, had cheekily asked the new landlord if he'd put a shower in for us.....

New shower in place and steaming hot (so will be great for those chilly winter days).

BT OpenReach turned up on time as well to install t'Internet.

Oh, and there's a strange Orange ball in the sky.

Not a bad Monday all said and done !

Northumbria Police did the same last month. As far as I'm aware, it was a press release in the local rag and that was about it.
